SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory is one of 17 Department of Energy (DOE) National Laboratories, and operated by Stanford University on behalf of the DOE. SLAC develops and operates some of the world’s premier science facilities, including the first hard X-ray free-electron laser. Research at SLAC explores the structure and function of matter and the properties of energy, space and time, at the smallest, largest and fastest scales, all with the goal of solving problems facing society and advancing human knowledge.

The Mass-Radial Acceleration Discrepancy by measuring the speeds of galaxies in the Coma Cluster originated with Fritz Zwicky, not Vera Rubin, whom I consider a celebrated plagiarist, as using the more challenging methodology of the virial theorem, by relating the total average kinetic energy and the total average potential energy of the galaxies of the Coma Cluster. My father advanced that the virial for a pair of orbiting mass is zero and used the principle of superposition to craft the argument to a system of interacting mass points. Fritz Zwicky then used the position and velocity of measurements to determine the mass of the galaxy cluster. Vera Rubin advanced self promotion for decades after my father's passing by assigning herself forced credit for Dark Matter, while feigning humility as a woman in the sciences not seeking any special recognition. Rubin remains an unwanted barnacle who attached herself to my father's discovery and work without conscience and by deliberate design to assign credit for myself. Rubin, by her own admission, read my father's work regarding the speeds of galaxies, realized the importance, copied the methodology and advanced a campaign with obnoxious trumpeters to assign that forced credit to herself. This is the legacy of Vera Rubin, who left an indelible mark as plagiarist and is an embarrassment to honorable women pioneers in the sciences with proprietary body of work. It is of note that the Vera C. Rubin Observatory is a vacuous vessel in forced honor to the celebrated plagiarist Rubin by H.R. 3196. It is a building for the Simonyi Survey Telescope. I was denied the opportunity to speak to the Congressional Committee and voice my opposition to the naming but was assured that: "my letter had been read." Not one Committee member had the courtesy to respond. Reply

50:57 What a joke, there is more than enough water in California for pumped hydro as generally the same water is used repeatedly. The efficiency for new dual speed pumped hydro is within 2% of the efficiency of large scale battery’s actual efficiency of 85% as documented by the roundtrip efficiency reported in federal filings. Large battery farm round trip efficiency is 85%. This can be directly derived from various forms that are filed. “Of the 150 plants (1,022 MW) that reported operating battery storage capacity on Form EIA-860 in 2019, 109 plants (850 MW) also reported electricity generation and consumption data on Form EIA-923 in 2019. These 109 plants reported a total of 458,169 MWh of gross discharge and 553,705 MWh of gross charge in 2019 (an average round-trip efficiency of 85%),”! Multiple new pumped hydro projects are in the planning stages. The only place that water has been a contentious issue is Eagle Mountain (for its initial fill). Generally the biggest problems are licensing, the relatively long construction time and the HIGH INITIAL COST.

The "real pictures" are x-ray diffraction patterns. Out of that, software computation provides the location and the type of the atoms in space and their movements over time. That's what scientists are looking for. From there, they can use software to produce a 3D representation of the atoms. Here's the paper that was published in 2023 that reveals the "real pictures" of their work: www.nature.com/articles/s41586-023-06038-z

So the site where the camera is going to is called the Rubin Observatory the camera they should have named Vera and you should have given it just a quick hug before it got off the plane Nothing wrong with that. so like you're going to be there once they mount it so given a hug when you can it's the human thing to do

Any idea why the National Synchrotron Light Source II at Brookhaven lab affects radar when precipitation is occurring in a straight line for over 100 miles? To say that God created the Universe is like saying I created my fingernails. If you look for a beginning, you will never find one. My conception could not have occurred without the possibility of conception. Nor could have the theoretical big bang. In the infinitesimal world there are beings in my body, deep within the quarks and leptons, who perceive me as a Universe, aghast at the idea that there may be something beyond. To some of them, I am God. But others constantly frustrate themselves with pointless discussions trying to prove or disprove my existence. Nevertheless, I enjoy working in my garden, oblivious to why seeds exist. This is Cosmic Consciousness.

Thank you SLAC for helping solve one of the worlds biggest problems. We need to quit relying on plastic. Everything should be composable, glass, or metal. Plastic polyester fibers break up and end up in the environment permanently. We'll never clean the ocean and air of all the polyester plastic fibers and lint from the laundry. I don't think people realize that most of the "dust" in a carpeted house is micro plastic from carpet and dryer lint.

This is one possible solution. The other is already in primary stages of development, making bricks, walls, columns for house/bulding/offshore platforms construction. The concrete production industry is the most polluting of them all.
@SLAC
@SLAC 4 месяца назад
There are many options to explore. Plastic for construction could be an option but there's also the danger of those plastic "blocks" losing particles into our air and water over its lifetime and so continuing its pollution cycle. There are researchers that are also working on concrete with very interesting solutions out there.
@NFLCommentary
@NFLCommentary 4 месяца назад
@@SLAC But the plastic can be coated with organic material. The material degradation happens in every material, we can’t say no to a possible solution just because there is degradation. Using plastic for construction would use a very high volume of plastic on a continuous basis, that should be the goal, the volume. We need to be creative and aggressive in our R&D and accelerate funding and execution of the most innovative, promising ideas. We have been talking about plastics for thirty (30) years and we still don’t have a solution. That’s all I’m saying, our response to this problem has been sluggish at best. SLAC’s contributions are valuable indeed but this problem requires a high level of urgency.
@SLAC

@Muonium1
@Muonium1 4 месяца назад
Press X to doubt. The plastic problem is never going to be solved by recycling of ANY kind. It's a sham and an illusion. The only viable long term solution is to make new, readily biodegradable plastics.
@SLAC
@SLAC 4 месяца назад
Right. And that's what we're working on as noted in the video. But we also have tons of plastic that sits around polluting so we need to find a way to bring that one down so we can find a better cycle there instead of landfill. So still we have 2 problems to tackle. We can't just leave the plastic that's already there untouched.

Congrats SLAC for this achievement! I would like a video overview about the software/IT infrastructure how this volume of petabytes of images data are stored and ingested. The constraints to deal that data volume is so impressive as the camera itself so it deserves an introduction, I suppose that AWS is not an option here 😅 Congratulations to all engineers and researchers to go beyond everyday
@SLAC
@SLAC 4 месяца назад
It's coming. It will be relatively short but we'll talk about the data release processing and how the team will manage an ultrafast data processing to be made available to scientists minutes after it was taken by the camera and a slower more curated version to analyze more complex issue such as the effect of gravity on light from the ever elusive dark matter. To do this SLAC has built a new data center here in California and will duplicate and distribute some of that data with our partners at IN2P3 in France as well as another data center in the UK, so that the data can be easily and rapidly accessible!

So now you know what this camera will do. A 10-year timelapse of the universe! Isn't that amazing?! But there are a few goals we're trying to achieve with this new observatory, mainly trying to find out more about Dark Matter and Dark Energy. Did you note what is the percentage of dark matter and dark energy out of the entire content of the universe?? What does that information tell you?
