Shorts don’t give wide enough angle to show the stones as well. Thought much more interesting seeing Alex and his Basil Fawlty impression at the end. Link to the stones view below and linked the full original. ru-vid.comYwT4TOEJ8kQ?si=CN-b-1zi7cdkeVfv
Thank you for showing this event, I think I could stand a very good chance at this, But more importantly I can also throw and make a cylindrical stone spin axially and enter the water then it turns under the water and emerges quite close to the entry point, and them repeat this several times each time entering and leaving the water, I learnt to select stones that will turn to the left or right, and can even make a highly spin stabilized vertical falling stone re-emerge and leave the water surface by a least 1 foot. I have been able to teach this technique to others, I can also make a spherical stone with fast back spin bounce off the water surface, when I spin a stone it makes a noise, My goal is to throw a stone into the water and make it turn and come back to me and I actually catch it, I'm still trying, but at the age of 72 my arms are not as good as they were, Do you have to stand of that flat stone to compete in this event?, as I like to get very low to the water and the first bounce is usually only 10 ~15 feet away, a rough stone works better than a smooth stone, I can bounce a flat stone at much greater than 7 degrees angle, I can do it at least 30 degrees, this surprises those that watch me, Its the tip of a fast spinning cylindrical stone that hits the water first, the amount of angle, spin and secondary wobble that determines its action, I particularly like to make it enter and leave the water is a clockwise circle, entering and leaving the water up to eight times, divers who have observed the path of the stone under water say is leaves a spiral path and goes much faster than they expected, also a very high throw of a perfectly stabilized large cylindrical stone can hit the bottom water closes back behind, I hear it hit the rock bottom even in 6~10 foot deep water and the stone makes no splash as in enters the water perfectly... try it yourself..... and learn to spin stones very very fast,
Cool, well done Malachy , the old fossils won't stand a chance in 5 years if you learn from it, especially when your serve kicks in . Work on the backhand
I personally think it's cool. I grew up skipping stones across a lake we own. I always wondered if there was a competition. We always competed when we were kids and still do today anytime we meet at the lake.
If you're looking for a definition of what it is to be British, standing on a remote island in the rain cheering people skimming stones across a quarry is pretty much bang on. We salute you, organisers and skimmers alike!
It is very much a Thing. It’s up there with being able to fling your underpants into the washing basket using only one foot. Olympics, watch and learn.
I would recommend the skate tool fix. Doesn’t need much off and it works. Sure there is a socket you could buy but I haven’t got one I can link you to sorry.
Work it with CLR and a soft towel or sponge. Dissolve the rust chemically. This will not affect the poly coating on the windings. If you must sand, no not Nick or scrape the wires at all costs. Definitely do not sand in between the gaps.
