A channel about people & places near and far; traditions old and newer
I’m a retired university lecturer. I like to :
🔸 share social history videos to show how things used to be for everyday people so we can learn about and remember those people and times
🔸 help people to learn languages by sharing language learning videos, information about culture and history of their target language to help them learn and remember
🔸 share information about some disabled folk who are often forgotten so we can learn about them and remember them.
I’m interested in the way things were, and in the way they are now - both at home and abroad.

This is amazing, it reminds me of my family photographs… we don’t have any video, it’s amazing you have got such great footage. People were dressed up so smart then… I remember my dad always wearing a hat. Thanks for sharing this and I hope you make more 👍
Thank you. I like to watch it because all those children look so sweet. Nearly all of them lived in a poor, industrial part of Leeds, yet somehow their parents/grandparents managed to get them all complete outfits from top to toe. I get a bit sentimental and hope that they have all had good lives. 🌺
Survey of twelve tourist nations Urlaubtours asked 8,100 Germans about their assessment of tourists from twelve nations. In addition to their own compatriots, the survey focused on the British, Chinese, French, Italians, Japanese, Dutch, Austrians, Poles, Swiss, Americans and the aforementioned Russian citizens. The British are in no way inferior to the Russians The poor manners also play a decisive role in the low popularity of the Brits, who occupy the penultimate place in the list of favourites. In addition, 42 percent of those surveyed consider the eating habits of the British to be inappropriate and perceive them as rather unattractive.
Please note everyone. There was an error in the video. Bonfire night is on 5 November every year, although some people prefer to celebrate it on the weekend instead of midweek
Thank you for alerting us. We have pinned a comment pointing out this error and have be also included details in the video description. Once again, thank you
From Louisiana, USA....sending you the good news of Jesus Christ. God loves us! "For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him, shall not perish but have everlasting life." - (John 3:16) "..God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us." - (Romans 5:8)
I remember going around all the neighbour's houses wearing our new Whitsuntide clothes with an old childhood friend. We were often given a thru'penny bit or a sixpence as we did a twirl for our audience :-)
Public holidays, or bank holidays as they are called in the UK, are spread throughout the year and mark religious, historical and special events. Many of London's shops, attractions and businesses stay open throughout the public holidays. Make sure to check opening times before visiting on these days, as some places have reduced hours while others might not open at all. Services on public transport might also be reduced. Plan your journey in advance on the Transport for London website. The UK has eight public holidays. Make plans for the upcoming Easter weekend, which includes the Good Friday bank holiday (15 April) and Easter Monday bank holiday (18 April). Easter changes dates every year School holidays School term dates change from year to year and differ from school to school. Local authority-run schools and independent schools sometimes have different term dates. Traditionally, the school year has three terms, with short mid-term (half-term) breaks and a longer break over the summer: Summer holiday: late July to early September Autumn half-term: last week of October Christmas holidays: late December to early January Spring half-term: one week in mid-February Easter holidays: two weeks either side of Easter Sunday Summer half-term: one week at end of May or early June However, many local authorities have adopted a standard school year, which is made up of six terms, each of a similar length. I’m glad if you enjoyed the video. I made it because my mum and I were in lockdown and I couldn’t see her. I had to miss her 90th birthday. I was desperate for her to understand how much I love her. I’m the little blonde girl in a white dress in the old cine film. My brother, my mum, and her parents are in the cine film, too. I added the other photos of all the other children in their Whitsuntide clothes to remind everyone of what a lovely time it was. Happy memories.
