Cinnamon buns used to be made by Bill (??) and his kids inside Squirrel cove in the '90s. He stayed in a shack on the beach. His kids asked nightly if you wanted bread or buns in the morning. They used to deliver them to the boat. Man were they good!! Back then, marine gas was around 60 - 70 cents a litre. 😁

You must have insurance to go out to the west coast. We did not. So we travelled between Seattle and Port hardy. We also moored in the Fraser river where current is a common thing to contend with. Fun !!

what speed gets the best fuel consumption on that boat?
@C2Sky1
@C2Sky1 7 месяцев назад
Strictly speaking your best fuel consumption (gph) on any boat would be at idle. Best fuel economy on most boats including this one is at slow displacement speeds. On plane you're sacrificing economy for speed. I would say the sweet spot for the 285 on plane is around 25 knots. You might get 2 nmpg at that speed assuming it's clean and trimmed and in smooth conditions. There are consumption charts available online.

My god I use to work for morrey in Port Moody now I got a chance to check this boat out from inside to out at my shop , it here because the Fiberglass on the hull bottom so thin it crack when they lift it out with a bulk trailer so we sand blast the gelcoat to investigate more and the whole Fiberglass lay up work is full of air pocket everywhere on the hull . It’s like they don’t know how to use an air roller when they lay up this boat . All the old commander have zero air pocket anywhere

I cruised Desolation sound in the 1990s in my 17 foot open powerboat. I trailered it north from Seattle and took ferry boats around open waters, then put the boat in for cruising. Great experience! I also cruised all of Puget Sound, San Juan and Gulf Islands and the Columbia and Snake Rivers from the mouth of the Columbia to Lewiston, Idaho. Never had any need for a boat bigger than what I had. Sometimes it required some judgement and seamanship to decide when to go and when not to go.

An interesting test before a repack of the chute is to simply drop the deployment bag off an indoor (no wind) 1 or 2 storey balcony and see if it opens under its own falling weight. This will highlight any issues with the previous chute packing technique.

Hi! No issues at all, we're just big fans of the Nordhavns and their blue water capabilities. From everything I've seen and heard the Flemings are also capable and beautiful boats. Perhaps leaning a bit more towards luxury over utility. There are some great videos on RU-vid for both brands.

Can't quite tell where that guest berth is located. In your clip it just sort of suddenly appears. I know it's been a while since you shot this video, do you remember? Three years later and I can find next to *NOTHING* about this boat. The design looks to be a perfect box checking marriage of Jeanneau and Cutwater making it a perfect fit, but the Shanghai connection and total lack of information rings warning bells. Have any thoughts? Thanks for the (only) information on this design!
@C2Sky1
@C2Sky1 2 года назад
The footage is from the Vancouver Boat Show at Granville Island, so the berth was temporary. Commander has never done much marketing and has next to no internet presence so I thought I'd post this video as a favour. They make a good boat, but not sure if they ever followed through with further production of this model. I'd suggest contacting Canmar Yacht Sales if interested 604 273-2226.

I just purchased a 2007 Bayliner 285 like the one you have. I take posession in a few months as it is back east right now. I have a question for you. I noticed that you have a Honda generator. What size was it? did you run an AC with it? where did you keep it in the boat and where did you place it to run it? I have AC/Heat on my boat and I dont know if a honda 2200I would be enough. I have watched all your videos and love them...inspired me to buy this boat.
@C2Sky1
@C2Sky1 2 года назад
Hi Chet, thanks for the comments. The generator is a Honda 2200i. Although we bought it primarily for the boat we actually rarely used it and kept it mostly as a back-up. Even though the Honda is one of the most quiet generators available it's still way too noisy while trying to relax on the boat, plus we didn't like bugging other boaters in the anchorage. We kept it on the swim platform on the rare occasions that we used it. In our case the key was to have good house batteries, a battery monitor and a good understanding of energy management. With our 4 AGM house batteries we were able to stay off grid for about 2 to 3 days without too much trouble and longer if we turned the fridge off and used our cooler instead. We topped up with cruises between anchorages, or by plugging in on shore power as needed. We didn't have AC, but I think the generator would drive you crazy if you had to run it continuously for that purpose. In the Pacific Northwest we can get away with efficient DC electric fans and natural ventilation 99% of the time. We never used heat while off shore power, which meant we didn't anchor out very often in colder weather. Our current boat has an Efoy which is a fuel cell charging system (and a hydronic diesel heater). The Efoy is very quiet but charges slowly and comes at a cost. A built in generator would be much more quiet (and safer) as well, but unfortunately way more expensive. I've heard that lithium house batteries are another option to run heat or AC, but also at a significant cost. Good luck and happy boating! The Bayliner 285 is on awesome machine - I hope you enjoy it as much as we enjoyed ours!
