Hurricane Sandy ruined this pier, but the NYC Department of Parks & Recreation one-upped Sandy and decided to renovate the boardwalk and now it looks ugly, with too much metal, lame benches, and those canopies which obstruct those grand open water views when you walk down the pier. Shame, it was once classic and beautiful.
Ah, this does take me back in time. I grew up in Brooklyn in the 1950's/60's. I remember riding the N (sea beach) train. You didn't mention that you can transfer (for free) from the N train upstairs to the B (west end) line. I think it is now the W train. Also, there used to be an N express from 59th street to Coney Island that only made four stops! If you look at the tracks you'll notice two inside tracks that were for the express trains. They only ran in the summer. Back in the 50's the subway (tokens) cost 15 cents, and (to boot) I think the trains ran better then. New Utrecht high school is near there, it was used in the opening shots of the TV show "Welcome Back Kotter"
I left in 76 and there was an EL. up there where there's now just sky. Where's the clock? There was a really nice pizza place just left of the old street clock and across the street was Gertz.

Honestly no. I remember going there like 5 years ago and it was good. When I return back, everything became expensive. If I knew it, I would had go shopping in New Jersey. I was really disappoint. I even spoke with the people that work in this area and they told me the same thing : everything became expensive.
bubble gum VIM is a good store and there's plenty of stores in and near the coliseum on the Ave. I was born and raised here. Also try Queens Center Mall and Green Acres Mall.
This is AMAZING! - I'm devastated that I cannot be in the states this year for the holidays It would be fantastic if anyone who is and happens to see Toothless (or any How to Train Your Dragon) in the parade to up load it to youtube I'd love to see it. We don't have much of this sort of thing in my country. I feel rather left out. So it would be greatly appreciated if anyone can show this years Thanksgiving Toothless! I'm sure there will be one.

Pretty late but is it safe to walk there alone? I took a walk from Kew Gardens Site Where I scared a woman by the wooden bridge because I'm a very sneaky walker but other than that NO soul. Friend of mine told me they saw guys smoking crack there so not sure If I should go there anymore....
