Your painting of this older person was build up with a lot of experiance realism and love . Details give him a certain lifestyle and history and also you can see an impression in his eyes. Well done. I can see the same result like our flemish painters have shown in their works. Greatings from a painter.

Not really a solvent or medium, but I after each oil painting session I store/clean my brushes in canola oil! It's something I learned during my painting classes in college :) it works great for me and keeps my brushes fresh and I don't need to use solvents to clean my brushes now

This piece feels so fresh as an ode to your older concepts. It would be really cool to see you play with this combination of classical rendering and bright nodes of fantastical colors. But of course, I'll pretty much like anything you make 😅💕

I love your videos! 🤩 I also switched to non-toxic mediums because of my small space, so I have a couple suggestions: - Gamblin solvent-free fluid medium. Great for smoothing paint and it slightly increases drying time. - Turpenoid Natural (totally non-toxic) for palette and brush cleaning--if smell bothers you, it does stink a bit, but it works well. I scrap my palette with a razor then use turp on the excess, and it's super fast! - Windsor & Newton has "barrier cream" that works as a substitute for gloves for anyone that doesn't like wearing them. You put it on like lotion and let it dry. It has a little bit of odor out of the jar, but once dried the odor goes away. Can't wait to see your finished piece!

When I was younger there was a woman with a teaching studio nearby where I lived and she only used olive oil and castile soap to clean her brushes at the end of each session. Later in life I remembered that and, since I was struggling financially, I tried canola oil and homemade castile soap - it actually worked fine though perhaps it took a little more effort to work the oil completely out of the bristles.

Wonderful! I haven’t painted with my oils for 8 months because I’ve been pregnant. It’s been a little sad for me, because I miss painting. One of my friends recommended water miscible oil paints but I couldn’t bring myself to buy a whole new set.
@komorebi3803
@komorebi3803 18 дней назад
I've been using watersoluable/wattermixable oil paint for a couple of years now and I absolutely love them. If you're afraid to buy a full set, I recommend you start with a monochrome set. One color of your choice (a primary or other good basic color preferably) , a "black" or even better payns grey and a white (watch out for preferred transparency/opacity). This way you only have to buy three colors to get a feel for it. I've tried Cobra and Windsor & Newton so far. Both are great, though I had more consistency with the smoothness out of the tube with Cobra.

I used to live in the hot US south and also needed to close my studio windows. The mediums and solvents I used were by Chelsea Classical Studio. They are expensive, but when I painted it was worth the peace of mind knowing they were safer than the alternatives. I used the Lavender Brush cleaner and the Lavender Spike Oil Essence for the under painting. Lavender Spike Oil is very powerful, so I'd reserve it only the underpainting. For the rest of the painting I just used oleogel. I also tried a UK solvent alternative called Zest-It and also quite enjoyed it. Getting it imported into the US was a giant pain, however, so I stuck to the Chelsea Classical Studio.

I’ll use the Sennelier Green Thinner for my oil painting class in college and I gave it away at the very end of the class because after a week for so, it smelled so bad. Idk what happened to it but it smelled like the fish section of an Asian supermarket so I would put out less than I would use to avoid the smell. Not sure if you would have the same issue.
@HappyDArtist
@HappyDArtist 25 дней назад
omg that doesn't sound very pleasant to smell all the time 😅 i haven't had the same issue yet, but i also use only a very small amount and it's only my first first weeks trying out. i'll be on the lookout for potential changes in the odor LOL
@UmbraMystica
@UmbraMystica 25 дней назад
@@HappyDArtist Yes, I found that if you pour out a smaller amount and haven’t used it up before a week, the smell kicks in. It seem that the bottle wouldn’t get smelly fast, so small amounts would be best. Also the medium would slightly get yellowed when the smell develops.

Heyyy there,i wish you're doing great,i used to watch your videos so,so long ago, almost seven or eight years ago,i was a newbie,i just loved art,but felt like i wasn't good enough,i felt overwhelmed by the power of art,and by the beauty of it,the mesmerizing technics of artists made me jealous and really ambitious,my ambitiousness made me feel burned out,i couldn't wait to learn more and more,but i was young and i needed time to grow,i had my own taste of art,it was a little bit different,i loved the freedom of imagination in art,i never wanted to draw real things, because i was bored of living in reality, art became my escape place,and a home i can feel loved in,but i was a perfectionist which didn't allow me to enjoy my art,i thought my art and the way i draw wasn't supposed to be called art anymore,but when i found your channel,and your imaginative and special way of drawing,i felt so protected,i felt a little bit proud,i followed everything u do,i drew everything u have ever drawn,and finally i felt like i was progressing a little,of course i passed through so many trials,but it just made me improve more and more,i stayed in your channel for four years,and u disappeared for a while, doing your things and living your life,and i did the same,i didn't notice until i lost your channel and couldn't remember the name of it,i persuaded drawing,there are times where i lost my inspiration, sometimes i forgot how to draw,i stopped drawing for one year,it didn't feel like me anymore and i was passing through a hard time, fortunately through some people i was able to regain the trust in myself and love myself,which drove me to having confident to draw again,i drew and drew and improved day after day, I didn't feel it, but five has passed,i can't believe that it's been eight years since knowing u, today i was just scrolling in my RU-vid,and i really wanted to find your channel again,and after two hours of searching,here i'am rewatching every video i once watched,i felt so emotional passing through the old videos of yours, remembering how hard i was getting on myself and how far i've come, I've never had the chance to say thank u,so thank u sooooo much for helping my little me overcoming her fear of not feeling enough, thank you so much
