Hey there, I am following along and I am having trouble entering the calculated fields and getting the intended results. When I look at the data source my calculated fields 'sales selected field' only has calculated terms for one year, and 'sales previous feild have only null values because its the first year in the dataset. Any idea why the calculated field would only work for the first year? I can send you any info and thank for the great video!
@@AnthonySmoak Help! I am stuck at the Map portion of this tutorial. At 40:54 of this tutorial, my map shows only 1 color and the color diverging works, but it does not allow me to adjust centering (It appears locked), therefore my map only shows one color. Did I miss a step in the parameter section? Thanks for your help.
So, that is a nice feature. What about the reset button itself? i notice it stays highlighted as well when you click it. Mine does that and it will not remove the highlight until i click it again.
Amazing video! Watching your Tableau videos makes learning Tableau a lot of fun. Look forward to how to put all the charts together in a dashboard. So if you could also make a video for that one, it would be great!
Very clear instructions! I'm learning a lot from your tutorials. However, I can't find a way to make a bullet chart on Tableau Public. I don't see an option for a fixed size when building the bar chart; is this something that's only possible on Tableau Desktop?
Hi Anthony - thank you for the demonstration. I am in the process of doing a salary and promotion request for my job. I understand the fundamentals of tableau but my question was how can I incorporate text only to show some community events, field and vendor events like that?
Another way would be to duplicate the bar chart sheet as Anthony did. However, instead of drag and drop new dimensions to Rows you can double click the dimension you want to change out and write the name of the dimension to replace with. This will keep the formatting already applied to the previous dimension for the new one.
Saved my day. Thank you. Trying to handle csv via oythpn script and always getting all values in one column, separated by the comma. Now I fixed it. Very unconvinient option in windows :/
how is this in anyway better than MSQuery where i could just do {Call MyStoredProcedure(?,?,?)}. Not a bit of VBA or a macro, i could just assign the 3 parameters to cells on the sheet.
I know MSQuery is listed as an older legacy option and you have to manually enable it in the latest version of Office 365 Excel (will it continue to be supported like VBA)? However, you have given me an option to test, I'll let you know how it goes.
@@AnthonySmoak My complaint is really with Microsoft. They took something simple and replaced it with a nightmare. I'm a programmer so other than disliking VBA, i have no problem with this approach other than it used to be very simple with MSQuery.
@@jdwyer4851 I made a video exploring the MS Query approach. Thanks for the comment. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-2oT-PhgcKa8.htmlfeature=shared
@@AnthonySmoak Thank you for doing that. Microsoft has buried MSQuery on the current Excel version and you have to add it to the menu yourself. I hope that it doesn't go away completely, or at least if it does Microsoft could replace it something that its as equally simple. I'm a programmer, but for fast ad-hoc solutions I can turnout an Excel doc calling a stored procedure in minutes. Perhaps the more people who know about and use MSQuery the less likely it gets killed by Microsoft.
Thanks for this session.. Extremely helpful. Just one question, on category bar, can we change the color of the percentage like red for negative value and green for positive value and also add up and down arrow. I'm trying similar thing but I don't know if thats possible.
This is great but I have a question on the Order Previous Year and the Customer Previous Year calcs. Why did you use Order ID and Customer ID in your IF/Then statement vs CountD of Order ID and CountD of Customer ID? Could you have written those as CountD instead of using CountD in your YoY calcs.
I remained consistent with the original dashboard design by Dmitry. I suppose you could aggregate in the formula and then when they are placed in the marks area the pills would show AGG(OrderId) to show that the OrderId is already summed. Give it a try and let us know!
