This isn’t really MetFix versus CrossFit, rather it’s about a brand new company now trying to compete all the groups that have popped up like F45, and the thousands of other weight loss, health, whatever groups. The noncompete isn’t really a worry, because Greg used to own a company that was “cutting edge”, but really was just a new bully in the fitness space. The landscape is completely different and while they might get some people to move forward, it will be a much harder sell, given some of the baggage Greg Glassman has. Doesn’t mean that they can’t make some money and make some change, but again, the landscape is way different today than it was even three years ago
Seems to be getting back to the roots. I think this is what Greg wanted back when he started firing staff and pushing for less focus on the games and sport of CrossFit. I love the sport and being competitive but I agree it has caused a glossing over of the foundation and why we should be doing this. It's unfortunate but I think it's because the sport direction is fun and exciting vs prioritizing nutrition first and focusing on the core methodology.
The tin foil hat echo chamber that follows Greg and Sevan makes me uncomfortable. Being anti carbs is the other extreme to being addicted to junk food. There has to be a happy medium. 🤷🏻♀️
Is BSI anti-science? Anti-vax and climate change deniers? Genuinely curious. These people have no experience working in STEM and no credibility in what they’re selling. Kaplan thinks the problems in science (reproducibility crisis, etc) are because scientists follow P values too blindly. It’s totally random. These people are disconnected from the real issues. Why trust them with your health?
As far as anti-science I would say they have a medical society full of MDs so I would assume if they trust doctors they trust science. As far as climate change is concerned it’s never been a big topic in the fitness community so I doubt they’ll address that topic…
@@constantlyvariedconversations thank you. I am training a med student my research lab. One day he walked by a stack of Cell journals and asked “what are those?” Physicians are not qualified to evaluate science, only clinical research, unless they’re like my med student and go out of their way to learn. But my question is about the leadership. A journalist and an entrepreneur- what do they know about things like cancer and diabetes mellitus? It all just seems very disingenuous.
My point is they are bringing in those experts. All of Gregs work is on their website along with his cited sources. Feel free to check it out to get your answers. I don’t belong to their group.
@@constantlyvariedconversations “expert” friends of theirs, sure. Thanks for what you do and when you interview them, if you have a chance, I’d love to hear what they have to say in their defense. Science is broken, but not for an attachment to Popper or Kuhn or anything they post about. They don’t know the real reasons because they’re not in the field. And they seem to have no interest in helping to change the system, they only want to rag on it. What’s the point? They might as well disappear. Anyway, thanks again and I hope your surgeon got clean margins. Best of luck to you. 😊
To me, the "broken-science" group and the new "MetFix" clan seem like a bunch of book smart people trying to take advantage of an obviously unfit/unhealthy population. Nothing about Greg or Emily screams "wellness". Put them in a line up with 10 other average people and tell someone else to pick out the Wellness Gurus out of the bunch, no one would be able to do it. They're going to have an image and credibility problem. The only guy that can could ever pull off the "laid back, disheveled, Jimmy Buffet" look is Jimmy Buffet himself. Not to mention he got booted from his own company because of his racist remarks. And of course, then there's the credible claims of sexual harassment. This guy should take his money and just go away.
I watched this twice and went to their website and still have no idea what on earth this actually is and what they’re actually trying to provide in the market.
Also.. you say CrossFit’s biggest weakness is the inconsistent affiliate experience… which is a fair statement. But Greg designed it that way and just felt the “cream would rise to the top” and other gyms would close. So what happened to that theory? Didn’t work out as expected did it?
I think thats the point I was making. He’ll try to take the good gyms and not the inconsistent ones. There is an inconsistent experience from gym to gym but there are a bunch that are spectacular.
Inconsistent affiliate experience is so true. I left on box because they didn’t have a whiteboard or even promote tracking your workout score. They said scores discouraged people. I stink but I want to see how well I did vs others in order to push myself to get better. I think you’re supposed to push yourself, work on weaknesses and be motivated by the people better than you but some boxes are more about just being social and not focusing at all on growth.
@@brooklynwillis1604 but does that mean high level (I.e. Elite) crossfitters are unhealthy? What's missing in the anti-carb zealot rhetoric is that carbs are just a fuel source for the body. What matters, more precisely, is what one does with the carbs they consume. Being anti-carb is the same as promoting the Mediterranean diet or the low-fat diet in the 80s and 90s. It's just another blanket approach to a nuanced topic.
Greg isn’t speaking to high level athletes, he’s speaking to ppl that over eat carbs and are metabolically unhealthy. It’s “off the carbs off the couch”. Some high level athletes could be metabolically unhealthy, there are some t2 Ironman and triathletes. we should be able to agree, most ppl under exercise, under eat protein and eat high calorie high fat and high carb junk food. That is who Greg is trying to help. 89 million pre diabetes, 39 million t2, cardiovascular disease is the worldwide #1 killer. You can’t dispute how many thousands of ppl crossfit has helped.
OK yes. I'll always be endlessly grateful to Greg for creating the CrossFit methodology. And I agree that most Westerners overeat carbs. Just think it's important to not vilify an entire macronutrient in lieu of understanding the details.
He’s not vilifying the entire macro of carbs, starch and fruit are in the ethos. It’s highly processed foods he’s vilifying. It could be worded better, but it has to be short and catchy for ppls attention spans.
I will say, this is the most confusing thing about glassman. I’m sure he has a very good/conceited/humorous excuse for being out of shape, but at the end of the day it just screams of hypocrisy. And I actually really like Greg.
@@stephencarlevato1948 Yes, it’s hard to get behind a product when the creator doesn’t use it themselves. Especially when he starts talking about “no sugar” or whatever. Like, I don’t know a single person who actually does “no sugar”, and if they say they are they’re either lying or are about to die.
Met Fix sounds like the brand name of an energy drink aimed at the 55+ community. ‘Not greeting the day with the usual vim & vigor? Start your day off right with Met Fix! Just one serving provides you with everything needed to keep you moving, but without the jittery side-effects from unhealthy energy drinks. Get Met Fix to kick start your mornings!’
It will be interesting to see how this plays out. On a high level, this to me is like the smaller content streaming sites that come along (Rumble, Bitchute, etc) trying to de-throne RU-vid..
As I value your opinion John, don't you think this initiative may accelerate the process that will end the copyright of the term "CrossFit" in the same way it happened to Pilates?
@@constantlyvariedconversations it will further dilute the value of being a CF affiliate, at least in the US where Glassman is better known. In the end, CF will become a generic term or simply become one of many brands providing functional fitness. The end result is not much different
Finally! Yes cut the damn carbs and sugar and you can break your addiction, heal all sorts of diseases (I beat stage 4 cancer in 6 months eating only meat and eggs) and I started doing CrossFit at age 42 BECAUSE I cut out carbs and sugar. I had so much energy that I almost had to do CrossFit. lol it also helped me break all my other addictions, smoking, drinking. It’s almost impossible to get a typical “Crossfitter” to believe or even consider carbs are harmful and NOT ESSENTIAL!
What they are proposing now is exactly the same that Glassman was proposing when it was at CrossFit. Just changed the name. I hope CrossFit's legal team goes hard against him, that would be extremely ironic
What exactly could they sue him for? He does not have a non-compete clause, he owns all his written work from when owned CF and there is no IP infringement.
@@constantlyvariedconversations I m not a legal expert. All I know is that he is selling CrossFit but with a different name. Glassman was mad at anybody who did that in the past
@@samuele.marcora and currently CFHQ doesn't seem to be going after anyone who uses the CF name incorrectly. I am sure CF is watching this but don't think they have much on legal grounds to go after Glassman for.
@@samuele.marcorawhat is CrossFit? Metabolic conditioning, Olympic weight lifting and gymnastics. CrossFit has never gone after someone for doing CrossFit or CrossFit like workouts, they’ve gone after them for using CrossFit’s name without an affiliation. I’m sure Greg has nothing to worry about and CrossFit has bigger current problems that require their focus.
Im not sure he's got the right target market. It does seem a little fishy to be bringing this out now only after crossfit has taken a hit by the recent tragedy. And, again I feel like without ordinary everyday people being involved with change, the target market where they should be pinpointing this is just another fitness craze. How is this different from crossfit? How will another nutritional coaching program be any different than what is out there? How is it not worthless? What makes this "fix" work differently than what is out there? This program is "only for affiliates"?
You seem to have missed the part where CrossFit affiliates (and HQ) nearly completely neglect the Base of their own pyramid...Nutrition...for many reasons that I could go into. GG is once again stepping up to clean up the mess left by other$ and address actual health for the masses. He has shown that he is putting his (non-profit maximizing) where his values are...why he's bringing in a bunch of business partners (to leach off his name and maximize profits) I don't know...but my guess would be that he doesn't want to work much and run a business any longer...but wants to promote health and gain a nice stipend.
I’m in the UK and you’re right most people find out about CF from the games and the sport not Greg . When I got in to CF I saw a picture of Greg Josh Bridges Rich and Andy Stumph I thought one of the 3 fit looking dudes was Greg not the overweight old guy 😂
@@Craig-pk5cc in non English speaking countries he is even less known. Glassman and the (No) Sugar Babes fitness company is not going to be very attractive in these countries
Low carb/Keto diet and high intensity training will cure chronic disease. The guy is insane, narcissism got to his head big time. He doesn't follow science at all, he is just a pathological contrarian
In response to your question as to how using HSAs will drive more people into affiliates, making CrossFit more affordable will definitely encourage at least some of the holdouts. It can be cost prohibitive for many but perhaps this incentive will give some people the nudge that they need to give it a try.
When is CrossFit going to realize the huge disservice they're doing themselves and the athletes by not offering all CrossFit sanctioned events on their RU-vid channel? It starts to make you wonder if the financial position of the company is far worse than anyone is aware if they can't, or won't, invest the media resources to broadcast all the events that are tied to the "Games" i.e. Adaptive. It's one of two things; 1) They don't have the money to do it, or 2) They don't believe the Adaptive athlete competition is "worth" the investment. How hard would it have been to partner with Wheel WOD to simulcast on the CrossFit RU-vid channel? CrossFit wouldn't have had to use virtually any of their media team resources to do it.
I’m sure there are a few considerations they would have to take like making sure music hitting the livestream isn’t copyright protected bit otherwise sharing your channels live feed is really simple and costs nothing to do.
It wasn’t lack of respect. Its a 5 min clip put together for entertainment. Its isn’t groundbreaking investigative journalism. If you came here for exact news you should look elsewhere
Yeah, dude - Brooke Wells is working part time as a seamstress hand stitching that active wear. She’s a ‘co-founder’ in name only, her involvement was picking out colors and maybe fabric. She wasn’t drawing up designs. Next thing you’ll say is she ‘wrote’ Resilient.
I love this. My affiliate is actually considered a medical facility and because of that we can use our hsa/fsa dollars towards our membership. #ehpperformance

Wok was that? You can sneak more dad puns in there without any apology, it might be fun. More seriously though, thank you for these short, succinct news videos that are devoid of grinding political axes which have nothing to do with CrossFit.
