BTW if you didnt know, haveing G cpus with a intigrated grafics needs to be set up what service nvidea or the grafics driver should select when you have a gpu, because the program could be randomly switch between gpu and cpugrafics and cause problems
It's ben a year for me no matter what fix I do bious windows reinstall USB drivers new cables it doesn't work on my 3080 build but the headset works flawless on my 1070 that I desprrely need to sell I don't need two pcs one just for vr but idk im lost I've had computer guys look st it everything I've had so many people try and help but nothing works my headset grey screens my mic.makes. aterrible sound that won't stop in vr and that's it nothing ever fixes it
A friend of mine just started experiencing issues with the gray screen just today, I don't have any experience since I own the original Oculus rift and rift S, but I'm trying my best to find out as well. I'm looking at their steam VR overlay, and it shows everything grayed out, but his headset is the only thing online. Is this due to the outdated USB issue you mentioned earlier, or is there extra configuration he has to go through in order to activate his base station?
Sorry for delayed response. I Could be a number of things that I covered. For me it being complication of drivers with my webcam vs HTC Vive but that was patched long ago I will assume that the issue he is having probably something different at this point. I would need more info to help you troubleshoot it. Base stations set up through steam VR is fairly simple. Plug in to ensure they are at proper height and no onstructions, they also have to be looking directly at eachother.
@@MrEightCS My friend replied to me that the one facing this issue didn't know what a base station was or that he needed them, so I believe that was the problem lol. I did give them a thorough explanation of different ways he can fix his headset if it still fails, thank you so much for the help
except for one issue most usb drivers are installed to the latest version from windows 10 so changing the usb drivers never works because those drivers have to be signed for 10
Your not alone. I just got the cosmos elite and are having big issues with it. Lighthous dc, controller issues. Constant headset crashes. Got the headset 5 days ago an got prob something like one hour of use out of it.
Havent played with Cosmos and i dont have a friend with one to test it. I would make sure to unplug any webcameras and turn off as many start up programs as you can and test if that works. From there work your way to playing with drivers maybe
@@forestboy8 have you chat with support ? Any ideas they have? I did chat with HtC when i had mine issue but ended up fixing it my self and gave them solution which they then pushed update with
Highly unlikely. Issue for me was software once uninstalled fixed. Some here in comments had bad sensors and only worked with link cable. None resulted in mobo thats ive seen so far.
@M2Gtv did everything you listed in this video, even connected a sync cable, went through bios settings... emailed my usb controller manufacturer looking for updated drivers and so far no response. My issue only happens when I turn quickly, sometimes it doesn't, thought maybe because the lighthouses are about 3 inches over my head that was the issue and changed the angle from 30 to 20 degrees and it seems a little better, but still happens a lot when I turn. No webcam, but I do have Apowersoft iPhone recorder installed and iVCam... maybe I'll remove those and see if it changes. Thanks for the video, it gave me a place to start.
M2Gtv a little better on my usb 3.1 port alone, but not much better, so maybe environment. I got my headset used and no telling how old it is. I might have a bad sensor that apparently you place tape over to block it and that fixes it.
M2Gtv I’ve seen grey straps on the controllers and I have the blue, I’m guessing mine is a early release. Not sure if they solved the dying sensor issue, but I expect mine will make it long enough to replace with maybe the index if the price comes down.
Grey screen at cable? I can't remember grey screens with cable. But with the TPCast wireles system. First, I have separated all wifi channels. TPCast wifi is far from other wifi on channel 36 (5180Mhz, first 5Ghz channel on TPCast Wifi Router). Asus GT5300: First 5Ghz on ch 64 (5320 MHz, last channel on 5Ghz 1), second 5Ghz (for gaming etc.) on ch 100 (5500Mhz, last channel on 5Ghz 2). But I also have disturbing gray screen dropouts. I have the impression that it depends on the game how often and how long the dropouts are. It seems like there are no dropouts in some games. Vive Home also has dropouts from time to time. When loading an app, it seems to be particularly strong. The problem is said to not occur with OpenTPCast. But you shouldn't have to pay 25 for the manufacturer's mistake. Is it a software problem? I am using the current TPCast software version on the power box (SD card). With microphone support. Perhaps games with internet connection are more affected. The Lab etc. are less or not affected. OK, there is internet, but only for the rang list. We need a "QoS" for this USB data in the Wifi / LAN network. Perhaps it could help.
July 2019 and this is still a problem going around the web and no real solutions. At least as far as I have read with support chats. I got my vive at launch in 2016. It was flawless. In 2017 oct I have been fighting with this. After an hour I'd lose tracking every few minutes. I was even sitting still playing Elite Dangerous. Now I'm on Beat Saber and this is just horrid. After watching this old video, I realized my issue. I started online classes and installed a Logitech camera in Oct 2017. It is unplugged and now my VIVE works fine. Who knew. Thank you.
I am currently having the same issues here but I just got my vive. First two days were flawless but as of right now, I am getting grey screen flashes after an hour of use. I have Logitec software to control rgb of my keyboard, mouse, and headphone. Do you think uninstalling will solve my issues? Thanks
I don’t know what happened to my Vive, every thing was fine for over a year. Now my vive works fine for about Ten seconds then starts chugging really hard, to the point I can see a black borders when I move my head. After a minute it turns grey. I’ve updated all my drivers now things seem even worse. I’m honestly lost. I would completely reset my computer to factory settings at this point. Unfortunately can’t do that as got no wifi to reinstall all the software.
M2Gtv Not sure? I’ve spent awhile now trying to fix this issue. I got no clue if it’s my PCs hardware or maybe software, or it could be the htc vive itself, at this point I got no clue what to do. I think it might be software as none of this happened before I hooked hotspot up on my PC to install some updates on steam. Next day I launched up Steam Vr, and now everything seems to be stuttering, looking around has has a watery effect, sometimes Steam Vr will constantly flash the loading screen off and on, or the Vive screen just goes grey. it seems to be heaps of random issues that I’ve never delt with before in the year I’ve owned the it. VR did run back to its original performance but then went back to unplayable status the next time I launch it up. I’ve updated drivers and everything I could possibly think of but no difference. If anything updating my graphic drivers made things lag a lot worse. Once I move into my new house I’m just gonna factory reset the PC
TL;DR: Go to your graphics card manufacturers website/control panel and update your graphics drivers to the latest. Don't update your graphics drivers through the Device Manager. Hey guys, I WAS struggling with this issue for a whole week! It really annoyed me because I finally cleaned up my bedroom and made ample space to use "Room-scale" VR. I noticed that the headset would lose tracking if it wasn't facing the base stations directly. If I turned away, it would go blue screen and SteamVR would display the (-102) error code. Sometimes it wouldn't even track at all, a slight movement and i'll get a permanent blue screen from my headset. I did see other people say to update their graphics drivers, although the difference was that I went to Device Manager, right clicked "Display Adapters" and searched for drivers there. Unfortunately that driver update was not the latest drivers, I had to go to my NVIDIA GeForce Experience (Your graphics cards manufacturers control panel) and update the drivers through there. It was a 500mb driver update so there definitely was some important packages included. And.... TADA NO MORE -102 errors, my VR works like a charm! I hope this helps at this one more person! Anyway, I'm going to copy/paste this to all other forums that discuss this issue hoping that it'll help at least one other person. GG boiz and girls, my HTC Vive is officially fucked with the (-102) error. The funny thing is, this error code is not documented, and hasn't been for the past 6 months. I don't care whether a tech company is proficient in their trade, if they can't document errors with solutions, then they are useless.
I am on my second Vive at the moment. My first one was giving grey screening the last couple of weeks. -102 error messages and the room overview showed both base stations, controllers and headset stacked on top of each other. Like someone else in the comments mentioned It also greyed out after turning my head to one of the two base stations. Tested both base stations separately and functioned. I checked for reflective surfaces or strange light sources, fresh windows install, C++ install, every tip and trick I found on the forums, nothing worked. Ended up returning the entire set. Supplier confirmed that it had performance issues. Now I am on Vive set 2. And again the -102 error gray screens are starting tot pop up. Changed the position of the base stations to make sure they where not to far apart. Angle is a perfect 45. Still problems. Yesterday I thought I found the problem in a possible wifi 2.4 airport express giving interference. But the problem returned even though I disconnected any related wifi 2.4 device. Contacted Gigabyte just now to ask for possible newer drivers like you suggested. If that does not work I have no clue what to do except upgrade my computer till the problem goes away.
I've been getting this exact issue too. It only turns on when it's facing the base station from 50cms away. If I rotate it away from the base station, it goes grey screen with 102 error. There are so very few people who are getting it. Have you solved it yet?
Usb drivers can be found on your motherboards manifacturing website. For me it was asus x99 deluxe type that with drivers in the end of it to find it though google and it should take you to manifacturing website asus.com/xxxxxxxx
Hey i really appreciate the help. i did not know about Room View and my base stations were off. there is also a mirror in the room that I will cover, and windows whose blinds are shut. hopefully this will improve the quality.
I watched just the first part of your video and decided to cable sync my base stations. Then I was able to run room setup. And that was it. Thank you thank you thank you. I thought the headset was bad. But you really have to get the set -up right. You know screw your base stations down tight. Don’t jiggle them to disconnect them unplug them instead. Thanks
None of you are addressing the overheating problem. Myself and others have this problem and it is all related to heat. Put a powerful fan in front of your HTC Vive and watch it go away. I run into this all the time if the temperature is over 74degrees Fahrenheit in the room
My room is usually 80-90 during the summer months, though my vive is always in the shade and never warm to the touch so idk if this is why or not for me.
I got mine on Friday and it worked just fine. Saturday morning it suddenly went grey screen after 1 minute of use. I was trouble shooting it for 7 hours and finally got it to work. Then on sunday I tried using it again and it went grey screen on me. Worked on that for 5 hours before I got it working. Tried today and it did the same thing again...Why does it take so long to get it to work?
M2Gtv So, I spent like days trying all sorts of things like, firmware updates, unplugging/replugging link box connections, restarting laptop, reinstalling programs, removing/reinstalling usb/vive drives, switching usb ports, turning off camera (off by default), adjusting base stations, disabling webcam, etc. None of those worked or it worked for like 5-10 sec, and then the screen goes grey (can still hear audio though). In the end, I opened steam.exe, ran it as administrator, switched usb ports again, used the sync cable for the base stations instead, started up steamVR from there, went straight into a VR game right away before it gave me any tracking errors and it worked for the rest of the day. I tried it again yesterday, and it didn't work again.
Do you think you could write down everything and step that you take so I can take a picture of this you don't have to but it would make it easier for me
USB 2.0 Instead of 3.0, Make sure your bases are set up taller than you are, Go to steamVR settings, developer and make sure that bases are lined up to see eachother perfectly. Make sure your USB Drivers for Motherboard are up to date. Do you have webcams installed? Are they from logitech ? You may need to uninstall drivers for webcams or logitech software from your PC. Hope this helps.
I'm trying to play vrchat without vr and the application turns pink . It plays the vr music and everything, but the application's screen is completely pink.Could you give me tips to fix it?
Blazed_Cow MC it is actually quite common error. Devs have not commented on it yet but my guess would be hardware not strong enough or maybe nvidia or In game graphics settings. I would wait and see what devs say. They are tracking the issue
Thanks dude, will try tomorrow. HTC, it is almost 2018, EVERYTHING work fine with USB without any dancing around computer and only Vive doesnt work well.... WTF!? Only Vive need "special" USB and can't work like any other devices (usb cameras, flash drives, cardreaders, hdd, phones connected with usb etc.)!? If I was an HTC I fire a lot of lazy asses and hire someone skilled........
