Hi fella Got a fireplace no lintel.About 115cm wide opening. Should i use a strong boy. The whole thing has sat on a piece of formica since i bought house 25 years ago. Iv proped it with timber at moment.intend putting in lintel. Cheers
Dont think it's necessary to tighten up that much, more likely to get a hairline crack up the wall above when dropping the acrow if you lift it too much on an extension knock through so you'll end up owing the customer a pointing job
Would you think if might be OK to use acro props with scaffold board above to suport ceiling joists of a bungalow during external wall knockthrough, without removing the ceiling plasterboard or will the plasterboard compress under the weight of the roof load? Thinking it be safer to rip ceiling plasterboard down and run the scaff board directly under the joists, then do knock through and fit new rsj under the existing wallplate..
Not came across that damp proofing method before .. seems a bit long winded... But if it works for you. Great to see your putting a dpm Up to dpc from floor joint. For me that is as important as the dpc !! Stops All forms of bridging... Nice tidy job
Hi Paul, sorry for the late reply. Put the steal in the approximate position before putting acrow props in then insert the strong boys and acrow props, take down wall and lift steal into position. Sometimes if you have the room, you can weave the steal in-between the acrow props. Thank you Rob pilkington Dream home renovations.
This is a good video. What is the plan if you are doing a 12" think wall ? I'm planning on putting two doorways into one ? Max opening would be 5 ft so was going to use 2 strongboys or steel bars and acrow both sides .
Hi Leighton, sorry for the late response. Same setup but your steel needs to be an adequate size to support the 12" brick work. Acow prop and support from both sides, making sure you can negotiate the steel between the acrow props. Hope this information is helpful, regards Rob pilkington Dream Home Renovations.
namaste, main inglaind mein stok on trent se hoon. veediyo dekhane ke lie dhanyavaad. Hello, I am from Stoke on trent in England. Thankyou for watching the video.
Rob, your videos are good, no nonsense, and instructive. Very helpful. Just one question, did you use an angle grinder to cut through the wall beforehand to get that neat finish when the bricks were removed?
Thankyou Stephen for your nice comment. In this situation, with it being an empty house, yes it was cut with a 9 inch angle grinder but this creates a lot of dust. If the house is occupied and got furniture in, the best method is to drill the wall at approximately 20mm spaces vertically down the wall then chop the brick work with a bolster chisel. This will create dust but a lot lot less. Hope this is helpful. Thankyou, Rob.
Hello Stephen. The acrow props should be 900ml apart. The amount of props you use purely depends on the size of the area. Minimum of 2. Thankyou for your message and interest 😊
Hi mate, yes so the full knock through including building regulations and structural calculations along with the steals and labour for this particular job with cross steals would cost in the region of £3,800. Thankyou
