I love waps, I think white is the least interesting color to them, they do like bright colors. They also do love our Co2 when we exhale our breath. I also been told that it makes them aggressive, but I've had several wasps crawl around my lips just to get that Co2 for them. They Just got a bit of my saliva as a water source i guess, and then flew away :) I never forget that experience for sure. And yes, you are correct, if you don't irritate them they will not spring you, since they also like to be left alone and go by with their own business.
Wow, this was quite fascinating. I’ve developed an interest in invertebrates, particularly isopods, and I was curious about their communication. Glad I stumbled upon this video!
The tea sounds good, and the stuffed salmon looks amazing. We'll have to try that recipe. I'd guess making sure the collecting places aren't subject to pesticides or herbicides is a rational precaution, but for those of us lucky enough to have it growing around our places, it's a gift. Thank you for the video. Well done!!!
Thanks for this video. I had two pumpkin spiders on my deck here in Germany. Ive been admiring their gorgeous webs and fascinated to see how they wrap up the insects they catch in their web. In the morning they gather the web and hide away. I noticed recently that there is only one spider and now I wonder if the female ate her mate? Im left pondering....thanks Danny! Im glad I found your videos!
Super helpful. We have found and identified golden oysters, morels, turkey tail, pheasant back and combstooth on our property. Thx to you, I'll be checking the orange mushrooms at the base of one tree to see if they glow in the dark. I just think that's cool. Obviously, I won't eat them. Lol.
I’ve got a cardinal nest on my back porch on my light. There are 3-4 babies in the nest. Is there anything I can put out to give them food? I watched this video. The mom and dad are great and we see them often! Any advice???
Deer poop when they get up from bedding during the day. In thickets mostly. Also in areas where they feed heavy, like under a white oak, or apple tree, etc... Not necessarily out in the open. They are edge creatures , edge of daylight and darkness ( crepuscular) and edges of cover.
Was part of the young scientist club here when I was younger, when the urban ecology started. This building was an old, unkempt community center, I hope you guys are able to build up and give this wonderful community what it deserves
In the 70s, US Wildlife responded to complaints from boats on Lake Erie were being clogged by zebra mussel bivalves. Fish & Game alond with the Coast Guard took extreme measures to try unsuccessfully to poison the mussels in turn tbe lake itself. Lake Erie was extremely polluted, chiefly from factories in Cleveland since the Civil War. Within 10 years, the zebra mussels cleaned up the Lake to make the fish safe to eat. The EPA dealt with and still does monitor Cleveland effluance.
Just brilliant. With so many social health and environmental health indicators pointing straight down these days, this "Urban Ecology Center" model seems to have the potential to reverse both. And if what Leinbach says is right, what works in Milwaukee, with some minor tailoring, could flower in all the other US and global cities. More of this please. Much more.
Nice video. I would caution you about where you harvest this very useful plant. Especially for urban areas, check with your local municipality about pesticides or herbicides they may use in your area. We live on a farm and use no chemicals at all and neither do our neighbours, so we are not concerned about windblown toxins either. Cheers from Alberta, Canada.
Thanks Amanda! I needed something to watch at my desk with lunch on Friday the 13th and was thrilled you got this up so quickly. Will share this with my parasitology colleague and her students.
This is siccc, how do yall not get more views or likes? Maybe its the titles. Like i would have never looked this up if i was hoping to learn about possums. Id title the video, “things you may not know about the possum” or “life of the possum”
