I have a Boston whaler and a surface drive. I use the Boston whaler offshore and the surface drive for inshore fishing the mangroves. I use the same electronics for both boats and transform back and forth whichever one I'm using. Transferable electronics are not a permanent fixture to a boat.
Will these fit on the otter hut hubs? Otters new hub is a terrible design and sticks out passed the hub. Looks like it will end up putting a hole in the hut! Id rather use these are they are the same size as the hubs
Don't ever buy an I/O, get an outboard. Always carry two anchor systems one galvanized and one aluminum. Have flares and a flare gun with ample extra flares. A marine radio is a must including a membership to seatow. Forget about all your fancy electronics until you take a Coast guard approved boating class. When you take that class make sure you pay attention and take notes. Buy a good chartplotter and learn how to proficiently use it. The chartplotter will have circles with red lines through it indicating it is a dangerous area. do not, and I repeat, do not go in those areas. Make sure you set your chart plotter for an audible warning beep in foul areas. When you hear that beep, turn around and go back. Good luck 👍
Nope, take all your stuff off, if you didn’t include the electronics specifically in your coverage then you take them off. It’s no different than a vehicle or motorcycle.
Brother, the one thing that you failed to use to your advantage was your Garmin chart plotter. It would’ve saved you from going through all that trouble. That’s why I love my Garmin.
Not sure if this applies but a few yrs back a buddy "Totaled" his boat out after hitting a stump at 50mph. Long story short he got paid out on his claim and turned around and bought the "Totaled " boat back from them for pennies on the dollar. Then, he repaired his old boat and resold it. And got a new boat. Not 100% sure how, but he did it.
Your calmness is what doomed you. Didn't want to ding your prop at the beginning and instead waited to sideswipe rocks and get buried. No urgency on your part. Sorry for the accident but bizarre.
I had someone back into me causing damage to my car and the other person had progressive. When their adjuster called me to get my side.of the story and file the claim he tried to tell me that I ran into his person, totally switching it around. It wasn't possible I hit them, I was stopped at a red light and their Yahoo customer backed up and side swiped my fender and broke my taillight. What a joke. Either it was an honest mistake or they were trying to make me admit on a recording I did something wrong. What a clown show progressive is.
Water breaking (white caps) with no water breaking (white caps) in the surrounding area always means shallow water. Getting oneself upwind and then allowing yourself to begin drifting towards the water breaking (white caps) is a bonehead move. You should have gone to the anchor first to stop your drift and start kedging yourself out to deeper water. You were lucky getting someone to tow you out, you could have been there with your boat hammering itself into aluminum recycling scrap.
How or why did you get so close to those rocks? I've fished that spot a bunch of times and I make it a point to stay off / away from the boulders because of this. Not trying to rub anything in but this shows why you should always be 100% aware of where you are.
That’s messed , if you insured the boat and never included your electronics when you insured it , how do they figure they should be included now when you’re making the claim ? When they weren’t on the boat in the first place when you insured it , way I see it only the stereo and old fish finder was on it to begin with so that’s all they should get , to me if they don’t have the listed accessories or electronics on your boat in the original insurance papers , your electronics don’t matter , and can’t be included in the claim , as paper work don’t mention them , accessories should only mean maybe the stereo and fish finder it came with but that’s it , as the rest was added after the fact ,
Wow! so sorry that happened to you. Please post an update of how Progressive was, I don't understand how the electronics, trolling motor, and other "accessories" have to stay with the boat. I have Progressive, but if they are acting like this with you, I'll be changing.
Just keep an eye for leaks on the transom seam on the inside, where the bilge is at. The rivets probably allowed it to flex. Whereas a welded seam may have cracked away from the weld. Insurance is a scam.
I like your bow setup. Just purchased a 19ft Sea Ray bow rider. Want to make a removable platform in the front to add a seat and my bow mount trolling motor
Yeah that’s BS on the insurance company the fish finder that was originally on it is all they should get if that , , I’d say if it’s a big fight just to get it fixed , as it’s a aluminum boat , a good shop should be able to fix that boat back to close to where it was before the accident ,
Don’t understand the electronics thing with Progressive. If the electronics were OEM and permanently installed then it makes sense. If it’s aftermarket, I would tell them to pound sand (or rocks)
Glad you made it out safe! That happened to me recently trying to get to a bass fishing area. The wind pushed me to the rocks and my water wouldn’t start when I did push it off the rocks so it was pretty scary alone.
Anything added to the boat AFTER your date the insurance was started would / should be able to be removed. It wasn't part of the $15,000. Think of it this way.... If you insured it for $15,000 and later put $2000 of electronic stuff and someone stole the boat, the insurance company wouldn't cover $17,000. They would say you should have upped your value. They can't have it both ways......but will try.
