The astonishing thing is almost a century on virtually everything filmed in 1931 is still here, thanks to Listed Building legislation- and the fact it was not a target for the Luftwaffe in WW2. For this reason it was the HQ of western command in what is now the Queens Park campus of the university. What no one ever seems to recognise is that the city is the best place in the world to see arts and craft architecture.
Well Liverpool looked a nice place in 1958 ... Loverly houses .. some with telephone ,, Football clubs .. nice fashion .. all houses with a front garden .. training n helping out the milk deliveries .. .. where there NO slums in 1958 ... We never had a car or a telephone or a front garden . Looks like nothing has changed .. all B shit like todays Police ..
Great documentary, my great great grandfather john kieran worked on the the docks in Liverpool in the late 19th century, great great grand mother jane kieran taught music for over 40 years .fascinating footage.
Not to worry. Eleven years later the Police would GET their own BACK by sneaking into the background of the Beatles photograph on the Abbey Road cover.
So sad the original Cavern destroyed. Paddy really has a front-row seat to music history. So great to see and hear the raw, live sound of the Mersey Beat. Ps did Pete Best show up at the reunion?!
My favourite is the end of this movie. Precious……and gone I am not British, do not live in Britain but have been visiting since times where the UK …….well…..was the UK and its Police to be trusted and respected. I just loved it. The country is now a dump and its police force a disgrace especially after what happened in July.
Fantastic - thank you! Love the quote “A city so old that antiquity is taken for granted. Shopkeepers seem to think nothing of supporting their shelves on a Roman column.”

In the very first frame showing Broad Lane/Henlow Avenue, you can see me Ma's house.😂😂 PS. I should have said a few frames in,(with the woman in the headscarf walking down Gaywood Avenue.
They continue to have these establishments over at our neighbours city of Manchester and they look very smart. I am told up in Newcastle they just rely upon their women…..
Reminds me of the death of Gary Kelly who died running away from the sick individual Purple Aki and ran across the electric railway line at New Brighton sadly hitting the middle electrified line and killing him immediately. After a guilty verdict Aki was released on appeal and continues his reign of terrorising the young lads of Liverpool and the surrounding area to this very day, police clearly scared off by the hint that they would have racially motivated reasons and I left school in 1985 and he’s not been stopped…. Smh
My Dad is the one driving the bin wagon 5 minutes into the film his name is Len Griffiths. I knew about the film many years ago but I never seen it until a few years ago. Sadly he passed away in 1984. Thank you so much for sharing this. I have screen shotted some pictures of him as I only have a couple of photos of him from when I was younger. Thank you again.
