I read at the time Nuno had produced this album but listening to this 30+ years later is amazing to hear the links between this and what was going on with Extreme.
being super Frank fan I completely get it!! Ahmet was a pretty funny guy and has great stage presence! Dweezil has it for sure but I rarely see anything from the younger brother..it is funny though and, yes, my Chihuahua, who's affectionately know as Tuco Salamanca lol, is going to start howling when he hears Ahmet sing 'Coyote Face' and starts howling!!! haha! He's our little singer!
Man, this takes me back. I use to jam this all the time when I was in high school. Great album and some really great songs and amazing damn solos. Dweez is really a tasty player and I love his creative use of effects for certain parts. I wish I could have seen him live during this time. He's got a crazy amount of good tones on this record too. Fun rock and roll with great musicianship. Mike Keneally is in the band too - he's a damn monster player. Beer for Dolphins!!!
The critic they got to speak (Melody Maker, I think) is a complete idiot. To claim Zappa wasn't remotely influential...? And to claim only his early albums were good... Indeed, where do they find these people?
Gays didn't like "He's so gay"... really? Sure, it poked fun but the song wasn't anti-gay, quite the opposite infact. I'm gay and i thought it was hilarious. Still do.
Z, Freak Of Nature, The Almighty's frontman's wife as the host, like the summary of the first rock/metal magazines I bought with my first pocket money as a kid back then. Love those 2 Z albums and Dweezil's Confessions !
Van Halen songs are the best songs on Earth. This might be the best non-Van Halen song on Earth. Having Extreme involved doesn't hurt! And how many catchy hooks can a song have?!
One of the most outrageously talented set of musicians, Scott Thunes, Dweezil Zappa, Josh Freese and Mike Kenneally. Sadly apart from a few high points like this the rest of the album was quite flat.
Back when this video came out, Dweezil was dating Robert’s daughter Katie who is also a TV personality. I can’t find the original video (that I first stumbled upon when I first learned of RU-vid in 2009-ish) with an extended opening scene where Wagner appears as a smooth emcee introducing viewers to the AZ/DZ Lounge (Ahmed Zappa/Dweezil Zappa). His brother also appears in that opening, I think.
“Definition of rock journalism: People who can't write, doing interviews with people who can't think, in order to prepare articles for people who can't read.” ― Frank Zappa, The Real Frank Zappa Book
Imagine if Frank was around today, he would not last 5 seconds never mind 5 minutes and that is such a shame. We need more Franks in this world. He shook the music industry to the core and they did not like it. R.I.P. Mr Zappa you really were one of a kind.
