really nice oven can you describe what the last white coating you put on it? I am building one and ready to put the fiberglass on and am not sure what to put on after the chicken wire. Thanks
They are Insulating fire bricks, not ceramic fiber board. Fiber board is not structural and will deteriorate and compress from the weight and the weather. Insulation fire bricks are very light and strong, also weather proof.
I like this build, encourages me to do the dome. Did you notice the buckets of water and sponges? He cleaned the outside of the structure as well as smoothing out the stucco finish. That's what I liked the most. No residue traces.
I think that the water is to wet the bricks before applying. Those fire bricks are like sponges, and if you don't wet the bricks first, they will soak up all the moisture from the mortar, and make for a weak bond. I keep my fire bricks in a bucket of water before installing.
