Yeah dad had one and a friend wanted to borrow it, showed up with a U-Haul truck and a neighbor had a place to load it. Didn't really have any place for chains so he set the breaks and off he went.
I own a 1958 420c with a Gearmatic winch, and a fops canopy. Bought it dead, and brought it back to life. Visit JDCrawlers.com to see more machines like this. Anyway, congrats on getting your machine up and running. Mine serves me very well.
My dad had a 420 wheeled version. I remember it was balky to crank and sounded like that but a little more throaty. It did the job for at least 25 years.
I spent hundreds of hours running one of those as a teenager. We dug large ponds, built driveways, cleared acres of land, and plowed snow with those. They could get a lot of work done and were light enough to transport easily.
Big Ears Well they got it going didn’t they? Actually cranking it continuously like she did in the beginning is smart, it builds oil pressure, much better then a bunch of short crank sessions like you typically see on these “first start” vids.
There was intervening model ,the 40 . They are all very similar with technical differences. Over the years a lot of parts got swapped one to another to keep them going. My own 420 has a two way blade from a 40 for instance. The blade shown here is a 4 way.
Johnny popper, got the same dozer 1956 420c. My most reliable piece of equipment. Be careful in the woods with that ole girl with no cage not much stops it certainly not a branch to the back.
