You can get a waveform and false colour on the Sony creator app (and on most professional monitors) but I've always used zebras on the camera itself. It's a decent exposure tool if you know how to use it.
My Camera bag has a Sony a6500 that I bought a long time ago and will never give it up. It takes great photos and great videos that "I" need. I have other gear, but this one always goes with me, because I never know the circumstances of where I will be. This is great advice for any photographer and videographer !
More to the point the Firmware update is a nightmare. The 5.0 update to my FX30 basically broke AF on all my lenses, adapted don't work at all, the Sony 18-105 sometimes works but defaults to MF at random times, the Viltrox 1.4 primes have been the best but still are on MF at camera start up. Also my playback is doing weird stuff... I don't know how to explain it but is seems to do something different every time I use it... and I need it to LiveU to one client so thats just annoying af.
I never understood the Sony hype, over sharpened, over de-noised, digital looking footage. I’m convinced that 90% of Sony users have never used any other camera brand to actually see the difference. I switched from Canon to Panasonic, and now I’m thinking of going back to Canon.
I regret selling my RX100 IV more and more! Such a great camera for size and price. It’s as expensive today as when I sold 2+ years ago. Great video. So happy to have found your channel 👍
Great video. If I recall correctly the RX100 m4 and up is 5k downscaled to 4k for video. And Although the 4 and 5(a) has ND, I still use a VND on my m4. The slow-mo is insane on these little cameras too.
Hey! Case is from Italy: ebay.us/cALJnn Thumbs up is just a generic: amzn.to/4dvodqT and i use this IR filter: bhpho.to/3N9yuOM Then you just switch the spectrum in lightroom.
I don't think they forgot about it. It still sells well and they produce it without having to invest in any R&D. The competition is basically dead. The only zoom lens competitor is Leica D-Lux 8. Leica also sold the 7 model for years and it sold well. Leica D-Lux 8 costs 1.600 but has a bigger sensor than the Sony. That's basically it in this market segment. Sony just does not see a need for an update. Leica basically only changed the UI and gave it a facelift. Same lens and almost same sensor. I think as long as Sony sees it sells they won't change a thing.
Can’t you just measure white balance in camera with white card from your color checker passport? You will need a stand with a clamp, but it is still couple grands cheaper than this Sekonic)
😂 yea you can do that! I like using the sekonic tho to match each camera manually, because sometimes AWB of different cameras wont match. ie. FX3 vs FX6 the AWB doesnt always match
In terms of absolute values it is supposed to be different on different cameras, because variations in sensors, and lens color casting. What camera basically doing - just making average rgb values of selected region to become the same, so become true gray/white. Incident metering wb, and then inputing same values into different cameras, actually will be less accurate because of sensor and lens differences. Still good for matching lights tho.
Red has a bunch of features that set them apart , global shutter and internal raw , but I believe the release of Sony a9iii and perhaps some unsuccessful patent infringement lawsuits convinced them that their edge is about to go blunt so instead of going out of business and potentially bankrupt they sold to Nikon which now aggressively sets out to sell as much stock before newer camera releases. I'm pretty sure the high end cinema department of Nikon will keep the Red logo , but as for more middle tier like the Komodo and Komodo-x , its very likely the technology will be absorbed into Nikon video camera's.
I have never taken a photo with my cellphone on purpose and I held out for the longest with my "dumb" phone and only forcefully converted when I had to use one in order to use bank services. As for compact cameras.. I can only tolerate them if they have a viewfinder.
I'm barely an amateur as far as cameras go and I followed the herd a few years back and bought the A73...then picked up the A7s3 and when it came time for yet another lens I happened to spot the RX100vii and I figured the rx100vii 24-200mm was money better spent vs a single lens. As I started to use the RX100 I started to realize I preferred taking the RX vs the larger heavier gear. I also preferred the cheaper SD cards, smaller file sizes and everything fits in a small waterproof case which works for me in the boats. I became so hooked on this little camera that I recently picked up a second one due to fearing Sony might be discontinuing the RX line. For my use I wish I had of bought the RX100 first because it would have saved me a bundle of money in spite of its limitations. Hope Sony keep this line going. enjoyed the vid.
Nice review/vid! Apparently Matthias Burling absolutely hates the rx cams due to the fact that the battery discharges even when it’s off, many electronics do…but travel cameras shouldn’t. I wonder if the mk7 has a better battery than the earlier versions. For video and stalker style street photography this is the best compact for sure. I’d hesitate when it comes to landscape photography which is were the canon g1x iii with an apsc size sensor is better (and not much bigger as a camera) but for every other category Sony is a winner minus battery if I’m right…
Just discovered your channel. Excellent stuff man. Was just wondering if you would recommend HLG + LUT + Adjustment on the ZV1 (since it's basically a video centric rx100vii and also 8 but). Was just wondering since it seems like shooting SLOG on 8 but compact is futile. Many thanks for reading. Have a great day
Love your videos. So much i bought the Sigma FP. Put a leica on it, just as portable, superior video, good photos, plenty crop room.... 87 F bombs, no coffee needed😊
firstly i watched it all :D, now my issue is that i want to buy this camera the last 2 years but it costs 1000 euro, i have the money....but since i have 2 other full frames for jobs i cant justify so much money on this, with that money i can buy an a7c to have a third angle, 1 out of 5 jobs need that that's why i haven't got yet a 3rd body.... now you will say dude just buy it for you, not for job, that's what i did with the xt30, and when i realized i didn't use it much i sold it .... and lost some money, not much but you know... so my fear is that i will not like it much or use it... damn that thought makes me crazy....cause i want it haha......all i m saying is that i hate that i have for example the a7iv with the 35-150 that cant take it always with me, but i know its capabilities.... before i do this as a job i wouldn't care and film everythign with a camcorder, i hate you technology xD no idea if anyone understands what i m saying but i had to say it somewhere :D nice video btw mate :)
Thanks! I totally get it, thats why it took me two years to pull the trigger! 😂 for me i realized the benefits of the RX100 VII for just capturing random video clips when im out & about on the current travel doc im working on. I just needed something small & capable that wouldnt weigh me down when im out focusing on street photography. I know im gonna dumb down the 4K footage and make it look like 8mm or whatever so i dont care about the lowlight capabilities or dynamic range as much. As a professional tool, this is not gonna cut, we all know that. But as just a camera where no one needs to know what your videos were shot on, its a no brainer to me. 🙌🏼
@@JustinPhillip damn thats exactly my thoughts.... i almost bought an fp when you bought but was afraid ...now maybe its the time to listen my heart and not my mind :D, good day mate :D
Fun video. Watched it all the way through despite the fact I am NOT looking for a pocketable camera. I will say though that I was impressed with the HLG profile coming out of the RX100 VII. I used to try shooting S-LOG 2 / s.gamut on my a6500, and that was some pretty rough footage (the a6500 did NOT have HLG profile in it, so it was either shooting in Cine4 or S-LOG 2 or just the Portrait creative style.
Acquiring these things bundled with other gear is the way to go. On their own vintage lenses are usually overpriced. It is how I have built my collection without going completely broke.
Best video of all time. I just picked up a used fx6 (actually new) but I was doing exactly everything you were doing in the video lol. I wanted the c400 or the Komodo x… but I’ll wait and use the fx6 for a while and see what Sony spits out next year.
This is the most basic knowledge... LOG format = use manufacturer native iso. (true) RAW format (braw, R3D) = use ISO on any value for your advantage...
@@JustinPhillip yeah I’ve seen a couple of unboxings popping up today. I ordered the L Mount as well so hopefully I’ll get mine soon, fingers crossed! 🤞🏾
I dont understand. Your argument is based one single product aka the komodo, the entry level device. I can name 10 hollywood productions being shot on high end red models. You are thinking about this from the perspective of youtubers, content creators and small indie filmmakers.
