I love my 85 apart from the paint which is shocking. The metal part of the lens has so many chips on it, the lens has lost all of it's value. I think something went wrong in their paint shop with my copy as I do not see others talking about it. I also own 5 GM lenses all treated the same way but all look like new. Despite this it's still my favourite lens just a shame it looks like I abuse it when I don't
Dude. You gotta up your game if you want any traction. Those example photos are some of the worst I've ever seen. Q2 can make masterpieces. Those look like iphone shots from 2010.

@@dlovisuals I'm literally a professor at an 80 year old university in manhattan. I don't really fret much over your take. But, for real, study fundamentals. I went through your street videos- you just snap. No story, no composition thought, no graphic read, even exposure is awful. I'm baffled and have to assume you're just in it for GAS clickthrough; since it's all so buzz wordy and trend hoppy.
If you’re a literary professor, then why comment on a video on photography as it has nothing to do with literacy. I bet you’re just an unhappy, underpaid closet narcissist who gets off by putting students down with his “feedback”.
@@dlovisuals Nah. I stay friends with my students for years and I never put them down. I saw you being an asshat to commentors and felt like passing it on- since it's absurd to be *that* terrible at photography and somehow still have a shit attitude. Need some humility. Anyway, killing time on a bus ride across the river. Which is over now. So, no more from me lol.
I have this lens as well and it's excellent on the A7Cii. I've tested it against my 35 GM - unless you are pixel peeping or need the faster 1.4 aperture, you'd be crazy not to buy this one instead. I'm considering selling all my primes that this lens covers.
The Leica SL2-S just went on sale for $4,200 and SL2 for just $4K. This new Sigma 24-70 looks like it would pair perfectly with either one. Am I crazy for considering either one of those cameras in 2024? Which would you choose? Great review BTW!
I would pick the SL2-S because it’s newer, the AF is a little better in low light and you’ll save money. I’ve seen SL2-S go for around $3000-3300 used so you can probably find a deal on one. It’s a fun camera to use
@@dlovisuals Awesome - thx for the quick reply! They are throwing in some extra goodies (battery, m adapter, screen protector) at that price, so I'll probably buy new because the price difference is so small once you factor them in.
I’m an APSC Fuji shooter. I would love to have a superb 16-35 for APSC. I don’t need a 18-50/16-55/16-70 or whatever. Hasta luego!!! Espero que el canal crezca como se merece! 🚀
Came across your channel after watching your Ricoh GR IIIx review. Love your content. I have a Z6 III which is great for what it is, but I want a pocketable P&S like the Ricoh GR III as an EDC. I’ve subbed-- looking forward to future content!
Thanks David. ¡Muchas gracias! I agree with your opinion and technical advise. I've just have the lens for just about 3 days ans I'm in love with "her". The performance at critical light conditions and wide open is outstanding. It's heavy, yes. It's expensive, yes. But I've been waiting to get her, and collecting money since it was introduced (more than) four years ago. And Flickr has given me an "Explore!" award for a picture taken with her.
I would only buy GR IV if it has the following features: - fixed non extendable lens, I don’t care if camera is thicker slightly - dust proof so I can take photos on the beach without worrying - larger body for better ergonomics, I don’t care about pocket size, I don’t carry cameras in pocket anyway - fast AF, necessary for family/children photography Nice to have: - monochrome only - no video, no microphone - full metal body
It's a great lens. At first I didn't expect much of it, but it's a joy to use and I've shot some lovely pics with it Nice to see more folks enjoying this
i use the other version of it and its always in my bag, for a few reasons it works amazingly with any prims effects i use. has replaced my 50mm f1.4 for the Z setup
@@pjc3163 yeah! It becomes a 60mm on DX, perfect for some portraits. Kinda wish Nikon would make a 65mm f/2 like Sigma. It’s def an interesting focal length.
Three cheers for the character lens! It's a great little lens for a great little price. Lovely bokeh, nice falloff wide open. If you want metal lenses for your Zf, my fave 40mm is the Voigtländer 40mm f2 (which is F mount, with the FTZ adapter). Voigtländer also makes a 40mm f1.2 native for Z mount, and it does have a nice bloom wide open, but I've found the bokeh is a little onion-ringy, and the falloff just a hair too busy for my personal taste. But you can't go wrong with that 40 in your hands right now; plastic or not, it's a great little lens 😊
It is a nifty fifty in a 40 length. As for those who snoot the plastic mount? Nikon guru Thom Hogan points out that it a very high end material that will actually help preserve the camera’s mount due to the lack of metal to metal abrasion when changing lenses. Anyway It is a fine all around everyday carry mounted on my Z6.
Yeah I agree. I think many people hear the word plastic and the immediately think of cheap lens. Maybe 10-15 years ago with the OG Nifty Fifty but certainly not the case with this lens.
I just ordered this lens as I couldn't find any other lens that could be an everyday carry with the Zf. The plastic mount is hydrophobic so it actually can resist water quite well vs a metal mount. I'd still transplant a metal mount (with gasket) from an FTZ adapter though if I can find one cheap. Quite excited to receive the lens. I've been using the Zf with an adapted Minolta 58mm. While the images are quite nice, the combo just doesn't give me the "everyday carry" vibe I had with the Fujifilm X-E4 + 18mm f2. I'm hoping this lens will give me that feeling again.
@@dlovisuals It is. Even with my current lenses, I do enjoy it quite a lot. Hoping the 40mm would make it my daily snapper. If I had Sony glass, I would definitely grab an AF adapter. So many choices in the Sony system right now especially their 1.4 GM primes. :)
@@dlovisuals Saw that too and saw other users use their 50mm 1.2 GMs on their Nikons. Pretty neat stuff especially how small the Sony lens is compared to the Nikon 50mm 1.2. I just despise the size of that thing haha. If you've got Sony lenses, it could be a worthy investment.
I like flaws in a lens but I truly despised the photo quality of that lens and traded in for a voigtlander 40mm 1.2. But it is weather sealed. Something to do with how they designed it completely out of plastic they were able to make it weather sealed without using any gaskets. And I had it in a very heavy Florida rain once without issues so it worked. I really did want to like it since it did look so good on my camera. Just couldn’t get over how strange the rendering was at times.
Thanks for the correction on the lens being weather resistant. I can totally see how this lens isn’t for everyone. I think for me, it’s refreshing to use since a lot of the lenses I have reviewed over the last year have all been super clinical. Also that voitlander has been my radar for sometime. Love to hear your thoughts on it.
@@dlovisuals The voigtlander is something truly unique and special. From 1.2 to 1.6 you get a special kind of rendering that isn’t clinical but old school look. But the photos still easily sharpen and the bokeh is the chef’s kiss! I have these Nikon Z lenses and haven’t removed it from my ZF in almost 4 months I enjoy this lens so much. Also on the ZF you get full face detection and tracking and a nice green box when you get into focus even though it’s a manual lens. They made it truly a pleasure to use a manual lens.
there’s something special about the way the 24-70mm 2.8 lens renders images, it’s hard to say what it is but it makes the images look amazing, i sold it then bought another one
Just found your channel and subscribed! Love your delivery and photography! I’d be curious to see your editing process. Really quality videos and work!
Z8 is the best camera to be released in the last 10 years in my humble opinion. Adapted glass now works great especially Sony glass on the Nikon and manual Leica m lenses. This camera does it all, it’s a great hybrid with very little compromise. I love it.. The video looks amazing.
@@The_BoringLife me gusta las dos cameras. En el 2024, todas las cameras Trabajan muy bien para cualquier tipo de trabajo. La de Nikon me gusta por ke siento buen hecha y durable. My gusta las Sony por la selection de lentes.

The Brevitē bag is so great, I have been using the jumper for a while now and it’s great, I would suggest it for any beginner photographers with a lot of gear.
