Hi Kodi, I enjoy your videos! I am having an issue with my 1974 Evinrude 25hp. Just went through and replace the fuel pump, cleaned the carb. And finished the job someone started converting it from long shaft to short shaft. I was running it the other day trying to get it to idle nicely and there was a loud clunk and then loss of power, ran for a second then died completely. Any ideas? I put up a video as well.. ru-vid.com1uSC9UOitRI - Buck Northern WI
Thank you , can You tell me @ What point in the Video, That It was ? I want to correct it, I could not hear it But will Do what I can, under You tube EDIT to fix it,, Thank You , I So thank you for pointing this out & I will do My Best to Fix It, Again Thank you, kodibass
Kodi, being electric start as standard did you put on flywheel & pull start from another engine.Ive got an 1976 35hp electric start only, plus a 1972 20hp pull start parts motor,to try build a commercial
Great video thru this one I learned that my engine is not seized but something to do with my lower unit. My propeller turns when on neutral but not when in gear and my fly wheel has that small movement that you described.
Thanks for the video! You have some nice piles of outboards. Just got a 20 johnson from 73. Went through the fuel system, lines, tank, pump, carb, and now she purrs like a kitten. What a great motor, not too loud, and pushes the little 14' lund around excellent. I wish someone would show the old omc sterndrive rebuild the way you do your videos. I have an electric shift on an old 75 searay, which was our family boat for 30 years, and want to keep it, and get good at messing with them.
@@kodibassInsideoutboards Thanks! I did think about that a little. I at the least should throw a backup kicker on her, just in case. Well, I put the out drive back together with the new impeller, (electric shift omc) and the boat is in the water running well and cool again. We are fresh water, and short season up here in the mountains. I'd bet she will outlast me ... time will tell!
Kodi,Why the factory doesnt use anti-seize on assembly is beyong me on those big retainer plugs. At least the old OMCS come apart with screws and a skeg removal no matter how salted up it is,LOLL! Thru prop L/Units have there cons for sure with maintenance... Good video!
@@kodibassInsideoutboards I read years ago in the History Of OMC Book I believe it was that most of OMCS outboards are sold in freshwater environment areas believe it or not.I think it was 15-20% salt and the rest fresh go figure,LOL! I always thought saltwater was more of a market worldwide then fresh...Too bad we both have salt living on Islands....
I'm an OMC fan but I'll admit those Mariners were pretty good engines, Hope you come across a replacement lower unit for it. Take care and give Fret my regards !
That was very informative that one. Most non mechanics or even most with reasonable mechanical knowledge would just say seized. Good one this video. 👍🇦🇺🦘
Hi Kodi, interesting how to ID the lower unit locking the motor rather than the head. Wow, that one was lacking lube that's for sure😂. Working on my homemade boat loader. Will do a video soon on it to go over how it's going to work.
That particular model with those colours was released in 1977 and the Long shaft ones were released for use with sail boats there's a cool Suzuki outboard history web page just google Suzuki outboard history and look for a page that says Suzuki global history it even has some photos.
Had some success with filling the lower unit with a 50-50 mixture of ATF / Acetone and letting it stand for a couple of days. Mixture tends to separate so I would rock the unit over every few hours. I was dealing with a fresh water engine though. Regards.
Got it running pretty good now after I adjusted the carb and in the process it blew the lower gear cave seals so I have the seals coming in now I'll be looking to the tube for help.
These motors used the old cable & spring system. So what I would need to help you out would be for me to know what steering set up & is on your Boat. I have some steering components to convert to the newer cable steering systems But not a lot. kb
@@kodibassInsideoutboards well. I'm just trying to get fancy. It's a 13 ft Jon. V hull. I have all sorts of ideas of grandeur 🤣 I would have to fabricate everything. I'd like to at least build a platform in the front area and at least have a well. First time boat owner.
Have you ever use pentrol ( lowes or home Dept) have it and prevents the Al unless passifrying . Great video, have you ever gone crabbing at your house in Florida
Looking at a 92 oil Injected 25 hp yamaha ..and a 2006 25 hp 2stroke yamaha...both run good...which would you prefer the 92 is quite a bit closer ...and same price
How can I contact you to ask you how to get my software to connect to a 1999 FICHT 175 hp. What software has to be running on a PC to get the data cable to read the engine.
Good morning to all of Lenny's outboard and small engine I just want to reach out and let you guys know that he is truly the way that you see him on the video we see each other daily he lives about 500 yd from my shop and he always saved projects for me so just reaching out to you guys and saying I consider him one of my closest friends have a great day from beautiful Kodiak Island Alaska
I found a paint place here in Australia that called the Suzuki outboard motor paint crystal silver which looks like it could be what it should have looked like when new.
Hey kodi bear sells a spray paint called soft iron metallic-I love this spray paint gasoline proof as well-I had a 1994 40hp Suzuki and I painted it this color and it came out really nice looking,I buy this at my local Home Depot
Hi Kodi, next video sounds like a great one to watch. gas cleans up stuff really good for sure. I go through cans of break clean which works well but if I don't have any, I always grab the gas can in a pinch.
Kodi I worked in a big Aircraft parts manufacturing plant for years they look like commercial resistance welding machine tip grounds. The same machines that resistance welded outboard gas tanks. We had about ten of those old water cooled big machines in one our Resistance welding department...thats a good possibility...
They are flaring tools from years ago for larger copper lines and tubing. They are made to hammer in to the end of the tubing to produce a flare much like a common flaring tool of today for break lines and natural gas service lines. Most of the lines that are that size today are now put in with threaded pipe. Not used much any more.
Yes it is a Factory sticker, They did that at the end of the 2 cycle engine run before being outlawed , That sticker cut pollution emissions by 50% Allowing a couple more years to sell out their remaining motor's. Evinrude / Johnson aslo put those stickers on their's . kb
@kodibassInsideoutboards Couldn't find hard data on this, but various sources proclaim that contrary to mineral based oil, full synthetic 2-stroke oil will safely allow a 75:1 ratio.
I really don’t know what the mystery tool is but looks like something that go with a port a power tool I have used the fire hydrant, wrench, many times see you in the next one 👍🏻🤘🏻
