Just got done watching my horror movie for the night. Vampyros Lesbos, which I've been wanting to see since forever and I said I'd give my opinions once I saw it this year. So what do I think? First off....love the Turkey setting. Great soundtrack that is used effectively. Liked the vampire countess and her enforcer. He definitely looked cool. I liked the plot and the whole "Moth and Scorpion" metaphor. Only towards the end when the main character is kidnapped and everything else, it felt like "okay, now the film is just trying to wrap stuff up." Also, that character didn't even have to be in the movie, it doesn;t even pay off. At least could of shown the bloody gory aftermath. I think the film could of and should of had more vampire in it. But overall, not bad at all. I liked it more then the other film I watched this year, a month ago by the same director; She killed in ecstasy, which stars the same actress that plays the vampire. Ya, I read your review on both of my recommends; Alucarda and Arachnophobia. Glad you liked both of them. Arachnophobia is a personal childhood favorite. I use to watch it all the time when I was a kid in the 90's. I watched The last house on the beach last year. I thought it was fairly good. Had Ray Lovelock in it. He's always good. His role was good. But I got to say, when i saw the film on your list of recommendations, my immediate thought was "I wonder how she's gonna react when she gets to that film?" because I certainly watch your "to watch" videos and I have kind of laughed, knowing what's in a specific film that you are likely not going to like, lol. Last night I watched Black Sabbath. Earlier this year I watched Black Sunday. Sorry but Mario Bava is a total hit or miss with me and those two films are a total miss. I've tried to watch Black Sunday at least twice, but ended up not watching it. This year finally did and last night I watched Black Sabbath and it was Black Sunday all over again.....I don't get it? I really don't. So my Bava films are Hatchet for the honeymoon being my #1 favorite Bava film, Bay of blood, Planet of the vampires, and Five dolls for an August moon. The rest of his films I just don't get the appeal. Really? Hause was on your list?....Well, I am wondering what your thoughts are gonna be on that. Personally, I didn't like it. I honestly was let down when I watched Perfect blue. I was expecting a dark and depressing and disturbing film, and it turned out to be far more restrained then I wanted and was expecting. So I found it kind of mediocre. Cemetary man, one of my favorite films of all time. I have the poster on my bedroom wall. Love it. I can definitely relate to Dellamorte [cemetary man] as disturbing as that may sound, lol. REALLY?! You loved Living dead girl? I've thought about giving it a rewatch but I remember watching it back in like 2008 and thinking it was pretty bad. One on top of the other....I thought it was okay. Have not seen it since the 2000's, but I thought it was okay. Not really what I want out of a giallo. Ya. Frankenhooker is really good. Disagree on the main character, he's really good. Just before Dawn is pretty good. Blondie's Heart of glass playing on the radio. Big giant mountain of thick forest. Boyfriend character: OOoo, you look at that! And of course the final girl and that death scene. Awesome and impressive.

Oh yeah, Scum of the Earth is definitely Hick-sploitation and pretty terrible. As far as I know it's only available from Grindhouse Releasing video. They're like the Criterion of Grindhouse films, meaning they include lots of extras and a good presentation but its also very expensive (way more expensive than I would ever recommend anyone pay for that crappy movie. Ha!) Glad you liked Free Hand for a Tough Cop. I think its my favorite Millian/Lenzi film just because I'm a fan of 48 Hrs (the Nick Nolte & Eddie Murphy film) which was clearly inspired by Free Hand.

Constance is such a unique Final G. She has like 5 or 6 stages of growth that are so satisfying to see her go through. It's strange to try to define, and to see Just Before Dawn through her eyes is a complex journey, but I Love all the characters in the film too. The scenarios are just sleazy enough, just remote and removed enough. I feel like it could be a Wilderness Slasher, or a Backwoods Slasher, or a Camp Slasher without a Camp Ground? I like Wilderness Slasher. It feels so prototypical, like there's an innocence to it. Seems darker than usual maybe because there's not a lot of music throughout. Eventually it gets so dark and it stays so dark until the end. When the barefoot Constance climbs up the tree and the killer actually takes the time and chops down the tree is just chilling to me! And there's no music, just chopping sounds and screaming in the dark 🥹🪓 so glad more people are appreciating it.

Since it's GA standing you should be able to move around and find the perfect spot for you. It may involve kind of standing so you can see between two tall people's heads lol. Obituary is AWESOME live, you're gonna love it! As for earplugs, I've always just bought pretty standard ones, but they do make smaller ones often marketed as 'womens' earplugs.

This doesn’t feel to me like a giallo in the traditional cookie cutter way, but there’s a whole realm of giallo-adjacent films with occult horror, similar in genre to (Polanski’s) Rosemary’s Baby and The Ninth Gate. I like when the supernatural is not officially confirmed; there’s plausible interpretations, similar to the Wes Craven voodoo movie The Serpent and the Rainbow, which also has zombie states possibly induced by either magic or a toxin. Another movie with a cult as well as a SHOCKING, terrifying ending is Allison’s Birthday (1981). Don’t spoil yourself on that one; just watch it. There’s a far less scary cult in Being John Malkovich, but all groupthink is terrifying.

Fanco Thoughts (a sidebar). He's interesting but not same level as those Italian directors and camermen that have more nuance and class than the "B movies" they were told to direct. Many Giallo actresses have very high level professional modeling backgrounds. Add to that Milan fashions and Roman ruins backdrop or beautiful mansions, villas and castles and there's not really anything in Franco's Spain or his Phillippine isle loactions that can match Giallo eye candy. He titillates but has too heavy of a hand while doing eros. Italians can illuminate very subtle sexy kinks or fetish but in more stylish clever ways. A gorgeously dressed bound girl on a her own bed captive by a handsome killer is much more fun than girls in a dirty dungeon chained by mean ugly men! He's got some stuff goin' on, but it's just not Giallo Italiano level. I'd have a beer with any Giallo fanatic but I might hesitate to drink with a Franco fan! ha! Well, that's my opion.

I just watched it for the first time and really liked it. It might be my favorite giallo film I’ve seen. As far as Jean and Julie’s relationship go, I’m going to guess that they were on the same page at the beginning, but Jean kept ramping it up. Maybe getting a little too extreme. Julie probably tried to dial it back and he wasn’t willing to, so, she splits and he is kind of constantly pursuing her, because it’s probably not that easy to find someone that’ll let you break a wine bottle over their body while banging.

I'd like to observe that the prologue (the scene with two shadows on the wall and a killing knife in front of a child) is the key of the film's plot. The protagonist is not a hero: he is a good fellow and a witness: he was not able to avoid the first orrible murder and so he felt guilty and started investigating. It was the 1974 (from september to december): low cost and many artist touches (the bar in the place, the mechanical puppet, the red curtain that opens the drama, the absence of any fire guns on the scene...) influenced so many film directors afterwards. The long scenes between a killing act and another sew together the events and the characters in fact the next film "Suspiria" changed in a sorcerous horror. Excuse me for the bad English
