Great video! It brings back memories of my time with the USCG Aux. in Flotilla 11-04 here in the NYC area in the 1990's. We used to operate and train out of USCG Station Rockaway, located on Jamaica Bay in Queens, NY. Alas, Station Rockaway is no more but the memories linger on. During my tenure as an Auxiliarist and VESSEL OPERATOR I logged over 500 hours of 'patrol time'; mind you that we only operated during the boating season here in NY. I had some great times and met some great people both from the Guard and the Auxiliary. We also had our solemn moments as well. We lost a USCG Aux. aircraft with 4 POB while on a training mission off of the coast of Long Island, NY. I knew 3 of the members very well and trained with them regularly. So, while USCG Auxiliary patrols can be exciting, they also can be fraught with danger! Semper Paratus!
Thank you for sharing your Coast Guard Auxiliary memories with us. Like you, we cherish our training missions with the heroes of US Coast Guard. If you are ever in the Outer Banks, please look us up and come by for a visit.
You guys pack more action in a short video than most of the people I work w at the bank. I am looking into USCG Aux here in metro Detroit or Grand Haven (Lake Michigan). Do you know anyone I can contact in the Great Lakes flotillas? Even Toledo Ohio wd be ok I assume some are more active than others? How do pick one over other? looking for my next challenge at age 61. USCG Aux might be a great fit, Prior USNR
