I've been searching and searching for a way to do something like this, as I would like to overlay my dive log data with my spearfishing videos to add a unique element to them. This is exactly what I want to do. I've even considered using the interpolate function of Excel to fill in the gaps of the raw exported CSV data since the Shearwater dive computer is only logging every 10 seconds, as every second would look smoother for the video. I guess this tool is only applicable to Adobe Premier Pro though, not other editors like Davinci Resolve or iMovie, correct?
Tyler, this is great stuff. Do you know if other computers spit out data files that could be done this way? I’m trying to build an instructional video for the Peregrine and the Aqualung i-300 and this would be a good way to show what is going on in the display. I’m assuming you built the graphic in Adobe and then use the data you past in to update it.
Sorry, had fixed the link in a different video, it is fixed here now as well... www.aquasubscuba.com/assets/Documents/Shearwater%20Live%20Overlay%20final.zip
Think about the problem from the other side. Load all your Shearwater data into the overlay, then move the element around the timeline to synchronize the overlay timeline with your a known point on your video... crop any extra computer data off either end of the video.
It will work for the Perdix AI, however I have not revisited it since its original iteration to add the air pressure. I plan to add a mask for both the Perdix AI and Teric that includes the AI screen ... but haven't had too much time to work on it.
Yes, you export the dive log as a CSV. Each line of the CSV will be the various data points and you simply paste the entire line into the appropriate field in Premiere. It is a bit of work, but it was the simplest way to have access to the raw data.
Thank you for this detailed video of the Arabia, I am not a diver but I have great personal interest in this ship. For many years I have been looking for a photo of the Bark (Barque) Arabia the three mast ship that was built in Kingston Ontario in 1853 by George Thurston (sometimes spelled Thursten) at 5 Gore Street. If not this ship, then any of the Barque's that were built by Thurston would work. I am specifically interested in this ship because for the early part of its existence my great great grandfather, James Moreland was the Captain of it (predating Captain Rice who sunk it and Captain Doville who finally sunk it). I got this information from my own research as well as from two books - one of them a written by his grandson, (my great uncle) Paul Moreland which is about the family, the other Inheritance: Ontario's Century Farms Past and Present by John and Monica Ladell. I do not know anything about ships, so I can't really even imagine what it is that the ship would have looked like, though I have googled for a three masted Barque and I suppose they must all be somewhat similar. If you ever find a photo please do try and remember me. Thank you! Laura Moreland
Just learned about this shipwreck through an ancestry search. Apparently my great x5 grandfather was the captain, William H Burton. Thanks for a great video.
RiverDiver Charters runs trips in the Toronto Harbour - riverdiver.ca/charters.aspx - Rick is a great captain and also a long time diver that knows what he is doing.
Hey awesome video! Beautiful scenery! I also love diving! Do you think you could check out my diving videos and maybe subscribe if you enjoy? You earned a sub from me! Keep up the great work! -Doug
Awesome video. I am going on my first trip with blackbeards this march. Question when did you go? Not sure if a 3 mil or 5 mil at that time would be the best. Thanks
Very nice. I am bringing a group back again at the start of April myself. As far as your suit goes I have had both a 5 and 3 there ... you are probably going to have mid to high 70s for your water temperature. So a 3mm is probably enough - but a lot depends on your body type. If you are a cold person, you might want to go to the 5mm ... One or two dives is fine in a 3mm but after four or even 5 dives in one day it can start to feel cold - especially after a night dive when the sun goes down and the air cools it is a bit harder to get your core temp up. Either way, I would bring one warm set of clothes you can slip on for hanging out at night. If you send me a private message with your email I can give you a list of recommended things to bring for your trip that we use when we go.
