Fascinating pictorial history of Southend. Used to go there a lot in the 60s as a family to see the illuminations. I would have loved to see some film footage of them

I just watched Pride & Prejudice 2005 movie on Netflix & noticed that the magnificent murals in the palatial home of Lady Catherine de Bourgh, Rosings Park looked very familiar. I googled the location where it was filmed & searched on youtube to have a sneak peak. Your video is the best by far! The murals reminded me of the King's staircase in Hampton Court Palace. Great to find out that it is one & the same renowned Italian painter Antonio Verrio! Your effort wiith the info was insighful too. Will have to visit Burghley House one day soon. One of the biggest losses to Southend was the KURSAL! Loved it as a child. But every place is guilty of wrecking what kept it alive in the first place.

I grew up near Chadwell Heath and spent many happy days at Southend and Thorpe Bay. There used to be lots of ships to see passing the Pier, from coasters to P&O liners and large tankers. All gone now with the closing of the London docks. My Nan used to treat us to afternoon tea in Garons bakery.
My Grandparents managed the Cornicopua pub on the seafront and my parents met whilst working at the Kursal amusement park. I worked at the boating lake next to the pier at the weekends and school holidays when I was in my early teens. I now live in Norfolk and will be 70 in two years time, seeing this film brings back many memories indeed.
Back in the early 1970s my father was the village Bobby, we lived in the Police House next to the school, I have many pleasant memories of playing in the Hall grounds as a child, a lovely part of East Anglia that hasn’t changed since then.
BEAUTIFUL video, so I just subscribed! I live in Colchester myself, I'd love to take my Air 2S to Dedham for a flight (I'm a beginner, by the way). Did you have to get special permission, because as much as I'd love to fly there, doesn't Colchester Council's (severe) rules forbid it? Also, do you have the A2 Certificate of Competency, and have you found it to be useful? I only have the basic Operator ID from the government's online test, but I was considering getting the A2CoC if it improves my chances of flying legally in Colchester 🙂

Very good 👌 great music edit 👌 one question, flying down at Two Tree did you get the customary warning on your screen? I’m thinking of purchasing the mini 2 and have taken the online test to gain Flyer ID and Operator ID. I had the Spark before but was plagued with dji updates and couldn’t fly nowhere near as I could before….even standing where you where in your shots at Two Tree all I could go was about 150 yards 😡😡😡😡 Thank you 👍
@@pete2109 If you download Drone Assist it will tell you that Two tree island lies within Southend Airport Controlled traffic Area zone, hencr the flight height restriction. So many people are selling the Mini 2 because the mini 3 pro is out with more features. It has no problems getting to way beyond line of sight.... 2000m etc. All I have to do is acknowledge the notification with a simple tap of the 'OK' button on screen.
This just popped up randomly. My late Uncle Johnny moved from Bethnal Green to a brand new house in Rayleigh in the mid sixties… I remember it like it was yesterday. Fabulous little video! 👍🏻🥰
