Damn, it’s amazing to see how much has changed over these years growing up here, there used to be barely any people here and BAM a whole bunch started crowding in, that’s crazy!
Seeing this beautiful monastery, I remember the episodes of Disney's Zorro series. I'm a fan of. I am thrilled and hope to visit you soon. Assis Fortaleza - Brazil
I lived in Sonora in 1984. Went to Curtis Creek elementary. Lived on the lake, I was very young and I remember having to have key cards to use the riding stable and go to the swimming area and could rent paddleboats. There were many culverts that we used to play in and a huge pit behind my best friends house. I sure wish I could get back to Sonora just to see what I could remember. We also had a tire swing made out of a huge truck tire and it had arm holes. I would have my Mom push me because she could make me go so hi. I remember my Moms best friend lived there as well. Her name was Janice, her husband was Dwayne and they had 3 kids. Wish I could remember more.
Lived in Chester and it was the best place.tell all the dot com bizzilonaires found it and come up by the 100,s in the summer to try and stop us from fishing from the banks of the lake, the town had a big meeting with the rich aholes and PG&E who own the lake, they really pissed off all the rich when they said you can not stop people from walking around the lake to dish, only from crossing from the road over your property to get to the shore, and if you keep threatening the fishing public PG&E will put up fences to block you threatening them, the land 10 feet from the shore was owned by PG&E,no more problems, but on the winter of course non of them were in there giant cabins so we would just walk across to the lake
Thanks so much for sharing this. Being lucky enough to have grown up in such an incredible place, I'll always consider this area home. I haven't had the opportunity to visit in longer than I would like. You couldn't imagine how comforting it is to watch videos like this to help curb my hountain homesickness.
L.A., San Diego, Arizona , & Mexico has destroyed the Salton Sea By taking water away from the farmers in IMperial Valley. When I was a kid It was the place to hunt fish & boating, Now it is a waste land. Don Thornton

THANKS FOR UPLOADING THIS GREAT WESTERN STARS HOME. I WENT THERE AS A KID ALMOST EVERY 2 WEEKS. MY DAD LOVED IT THERE. I HAD GREAT MEMORIES OF THE WORKERS WHO STAYED AND TALKED WITH US AND GOT TO SEE THINGS OTHERS DIDNT. AND AT BUNKHOUSE BELOW, WE HAD A GREAT TIME WATCHING OLD MOVIES. MY DAD KNEW THE PEOPLE THERE VERY WELL. BRINGS TEARS TO MY EYES.
hello. im glad you answered back. not many, if anyone ever responds. you are keeping history alive. if i had a camera, i would love to do what you do. this needs to be done. plus places like this needs updates. you never know when a nasty fire will destroy it all. i started to watch some on bodie, calif. and every year places look different. 2009 there looks more rundown than a 2013 video. you took the time to pan the camera slowly. thanks again for the memories. i needed that yesterday. Back in Time Restorer, laugh...
Our family visited the ranch several times in the late 1970's. I recall the tour guide telling us that Williams 'old style' bathing suit took three days to dry, LOL.
Bullshit Covid restrictions, and those stupid masks, those "inconveniences" have been & are killing social engagement. Everything is handled via the Internet now, too.
Thanks for the post. I'm reading a book called Big Oak Flat Road to Yosemite which discusses Chinese Camp in detail. I've driven by it a million times but never stopped.
Visited in May 2013 whilst on vacation from the UK and really loved the place. It's such a lovely town with great little shops and some good places to eat. Had a fun evening in the Iron Horse, thought the people were so friendly and hope to return one day.
