Welcome to JD Offline! My channel is a collection of things that I like to do in my off time or when I'm "offline." Most of these can be broken down into either woodworking, metalworking, blacksmithing, automotive restoration and product reviews. I hope you enjoy the channel and if you haven't already, please subscribe to the channel!
I agree with you, Jake is the best part and I can't compete with him!! He just turned 14 in July and is still going. Hope he will continue to be with us for many more years. JD
I haven't had a problem with the new one they sent me but admittedly have kept it out of the really hot sun. If I'm going somewhere really hot like the beach I will take a white cooler or the flip 18. Hopefully you won't have any issues. JD
Just ordered this in tan sort of as an 'upgrade' to my original Yeti Roadie 20, which is 15 years old now but still working great ! The reason(s) I justified the 'upgrade' were . . . #1, The Size- I have the 20 mounted in my small 15 foot Boston Whaler, and while it's fine, saving even a little real estate will be very welcomed. #2, The Weight - Though not a huge difference, when the 20 is loaded it's pretty damn hefty . . . saving a few pounds will be nice. #3, The Handle - The Roadie 20's stainless steel handle is nice for short distances, but the 15's shoulder strap looks much better for longer transports. #4, The Latches - The Roadie 20's latches are still holding up fine . . . but the new flip latches on the 15 look a lot more convenient. #5, The Basket Option - While certainly not 'important' . . . the option to have a 'dry sandwich loft' is very cool. The fact that they kept the tie-downs and drain sealed the deal . . . if they hadn't kept those the 15 would be a 'No Go' for Me. For my particular needs, going down in volume from 20 to 15 isn't an issue as I only use it as a 1 or 2 person day cooler. ( I always have spare room in the 20) I'm not expecting the world in terms of ice retention . . . I realize a little 15 sized cooler only has so much thermal capabilities. It's not that hot where I live, and if I can get a solid 24 hrs out of it, theat's more than enough. $200.00 is a bit of splurge for something I really don't 'need', but rather 'want' . . . so yeah, I'g guilty there. Lastly, I really hope the build quality is up to par, as I've read some complaints about quality control on these new 15's. Fingers crossed. (Upodate /Warannty Claim Submitted ) . . . I received the tan roadie 15. Got it home, unboxed and was very disappointed with the build quality. While it 'looks' cool and the design is 100% great . . . the seams at the lid and the top of the cooler itself very were mismatched almost all the way around the perimeter of the cooler. I really wouldn't care if it was in just one or 2 spots . . . but it's all the way around. One of the corners sticks out almost an 1/8". This is a break in the insulation seal and will only get worse with time. I compared it to my 15 year old Roadie 20, and it's night and day . . . other than a very 'slight' warping of the lid, that cooler is still 100% solid. I can totally see what's going on . . . the Roadie 15 is a 4 piece cooler that doesn't appear to be roto-molded in the same way the Roadie 20 was. These are possibly injection molded. There are 4 shells that appear to be assembled / bonded together to form the cooler itself. So at every joint / seam there is a chance for mis-alignment in the manufacturing process if everything isn't perfect. I understand why they probably did this . . . cost savings . . . but Yeti sort of created their own issue by switching construction techniques. I think I just received an exceptionally bad one . . . I've started the warranty exchange process . . . if they ship me one that is better I'll be 100% satisfied. I will update here after Yeti resolves the issue.
I've had good experiences with the warranty process and hopefully Yeti will stand behind their product. I have an old 20 as well and all the factors you pointed out make the 15 a better choice assuming the construction of the cooler itself is up to par. Keep us posted on what happens! JD
Hard to say with how prices are now. The expanded metal is expensive for sure and it took a lot of spray paint to paint it. I build this years ago before all the prices went crazy. JD
@@TheUnFurtaker haha it’s been a great cooler so far and love that it has a drain plug even though I didn’t think it would be so handy it is nice to have. JD
I still love mine and use it all the time. I did a "refresh" on it about a year ago and took those wheels off and welded on 4 casters which totally makes it so much easier to move around. Fresh coat of paint and it's good to go for more years to come! One of the best and most used items I've made. JD
@@Backfire10 I haven’t had a problem w that. I leave the truck running so that helps plus it’s a diesel so it came w two batteries from the factory. JD
Good afternoon. I do have a question for you that I was hoping you could help me with. I have the exact same jeep as you. And 83 CJ seven with the exact same set up. I too am having steering issues and I have already rebuilt the entire front end. Just like you, I went with a rebuilt steering gearbox from O’Reilly‘s. It has proven to be disastrous. I’m considering a redhead steering gearbox until I saw your video for the PSC. In your opinion, do you feel that PSC would be better than the redhead. I can tell there is a significance and price difference, also I’ve recently replaced the power steering pump from O’Reillys as well. And I’m wondering will I need to replace the gearbox and the hydraulic system to match PSC. Essentially I would like my results to be just like yours. Tight steering thanks in advance for your help advice and great job on the videos.
I have no regrets with the PSC box and use a factory style power steering pump I believe I got from Summit Racing (there are more videos after my engine swap of the power steering pump set up). I have heard nothing but good things about the Redhead boxes but have never used one and as far as I know, PSC is the only one out there at the time I did my research that makes a truly brand new gear box. This has been several years ago so there may be more competitors out there today. I have a PSC pump on my camaro with an Oreilly's pump and have the same results as the Jeep. Hope this helps. JD
Original design was to have a battery in the tool box on the trailer but I later decided to use the dual battery set up on my diesel truck, eliminating the need for the separate battery. JD
BEST review. As a single female around 5', no reviews were answering my main concerns about weight/having to haul/load in and out of a car on my own (I'm not worried about bears and how many beers, lol). Knowing the weight vs capacity comparisons and that I can stack on the 48 and save trips lugging things back and forth is amazing. TY!
I just ordered the Traihead today.....I needed a chair that I could keep out in the sun 365 a year. I have been buying these "Freestyle Rockers" chairs but they get ripped from exposure to the sun. They were ripping in less than a year at $69....Hoping Yeti's UV protection will be worth the price
Mine are not in the sun all the time but we do bring them to the beach with us so they have been exposed quite a bit over the years. No fading and still look brand new. I think I've had the Hondo for about 6 years now and the trailhead for 4 years. JD
@@JDOffline I am sure intermittent time in the sun is just fine. The company says the chairs have to be stored indoors. The tree I bought were in the sun everyday and each chair last less than a year.
Just purchased this and one of the first things I tried was to see if it fit in my cars trunk and I’m happy to report it does but it can only go in 1 way. It’s a Toyota Avalon which is a larger sedan compared to a lot of the cars on the market these days.
I wish I could tell you specifically. I bought the ax15 transmission from Novak conversions so they may be able to tell you if you give them a call. Sorry I just don't remember as that's been some years ago! JD
Appreciate the review. Any chance the hondo cup holder fits in the trailhead??? Not sure if you can buy the hondo holders separately or not...but it appears to be slightly further out from the chair maybe mitigating the interference with the mechanism below the handle.
@@philgilbertson771 I don’t believe it does. I have another video on my channel comparing the two chairs side by side and I believe I talk about that in that video. It’s been a few years!! JD
That Roadie 15 is just about as perfect of a day cooler for one or two people as can be made. The size is perfect. You can fit two cans on top of each other if you need two and with the small tray you can buy to fit it you can fit you a couple chicken Po’ Boys. The only problem with it is that Yeti price but you’ve gotta pay to play. I’m ordering one tomorrow.
A great and very helpful review. I'm about to go buy a Roadie 32 or 48 and your thoughtful and complete analysis has been very helpful. It's an expensive purchase and I'd like to get it right. I'm now a subscriber and look forward to your next videos. Thank you!
I just bought the agave green soft cooler size 20. Using for day stuff not where I can’t access more ice etc. I might get one of these to keep in the back of my truck with less need for maintaining and adding ice. Also bought the duffle 100 bc I need a lot of waterproof space for truck bed occasionally.
The 32 is a great size and I use that and the new 15 quite a bit. I also have the large duffle bag, it's perfect for the back of a truck. It will hold up well, mine are great years later. JD
I know this video is old, but I just busted out my exact same sander that I haven’t used in several years to try to give it another shot. I used it for a year or two before replacing it with a grizzly 72 inch knife sander. I’m just a hobbyist and use the sander three or four times a week, so I would not call myself an expert. When I bought the jet, I bought it for the quality name, but was immediately disappointed. The biggest problem for me is adjusting the tracking on the belt portion. You have to use, an Allen wrench and a set screw to keep it in place. It’s a multi step process to adjust the freaking tracking, which should be a simple procedure as it is on the grizzly. The motor bogs down and the tension on the belt portion is not enough, because the spring is too weak for the unit. Jet should be embarrassed to sell this under their brand name.
@@bill.Latham thank you. It was actually a very thin piece of scrap metal I found at my local metal yard. It’s prob 1 inch in height and thin enough to be pliable. You could really make it any way you wanted to but I happened to find that piece. Best and most used project I’ve ever made. Still going strong today. JD
