Beautiful interpretation. It's such a shame that this is a rather obscure piece, but hopefully this project can bring more attention to Ángela Peralta's work.
I bought a ticket to say Andre Segovia live in concert, but the rat died on me before he could come. Many years later, I saw Elliot Fisk at the same concert hall in Eugene Oregon. I also saw Christopher Parkining and Julian Bream there.
Thank you for watching and for your comments. Ponce has about 28 piano mazurkas, unique and beautiful. He started them quite young and kept revising them all his life.
If ever there was a composer who allowed listeners of his music to peer into his soul, it was Manuel Ponce. Of course not only in his piano compositions , but also in his many works for guitar written for his friend Andres Segovia . One of his music students the late Jesus Silva related the story of
… the story of- Segovia was visiting Mr. Silva one summer at his home in Mexico . Evidently My Silva was playing one of Ponce’s compositions for Segovia as they were out in the courtyard. Mr Silva stated at that time, he played the piece better than he had ever played it in his life . After he finished, he looked over at Segovia to possibly obtain an approving glance or comment of approval . However… it seems Segovia had fallen fast asleep . During Segovia’s visit, he had agreed to play for a few friends of Mr Silva . Playing Sevilla by Albeniz and reaching a fast scale passage, Segovia missed some notes, started again , and repeated the mistake . Suddenly, he gruffly thrust out the guitar to Mr Silva and said “ the guitar is the most intolerable instrument ever created by man “ .
