Hailed by critics for their "rootsy mix of 70s rock and power pop" (pitchfork.com) and for their unflinching ability to "sing it sweet and play it dirty" (The New Yorker), The Mother Hips are true indie music pioneers.
I think I saw them in Greenwich Village in New York City at a place called the Electric Banana. Don't look for it now, it's not there. That band, for me, redefined the word rock-n-roll. I remember being knocked out by their exuberance. Their raw power. And their punctuality.
Was just talking about you guys with a friend today… reminiscing about that kick ass show last September. Thanks for the Golden Gate content. Sounds great!
THE HIPS WITH EVERY RELEASE KNOCK IT OUT OF THE PARK... I STILL CAN'T BELIEVE THEY OPENED A FEW SHOWS THAT JOHNNY CASH DID TOWARD THE END . RICK RUBIN SIGNED THEM TO DEF AMERICAN. BEEN A FAN SINCE
How many times can you smash the thumbs up button? Cuz I'm hitting it on repeat. I've been a Mother Hipster since '93. I've seen many many shows and they never disappoint. This is one of the best live versions of Precious Opal I've ever seen. The harmonies, the jam, the change in tempo, are all spot on. And I've always loved the lyrics to this song. They paint such an interesting picture in my mind. It's true prose. Bravo boys. Keep up the good work. And please, please come to Colorado as often as possible.
Just hearing this one for the first time and can't believe I'm only the 66th person to like it. Stoked to have tix to see them in Hood River, Oregone on 3/1/24.
