We're a Swedish couple who wanted a different kind of life. So we sold everything we owned and saved money for 1,5 years while living aboard our 40-foot custom built aluminium sailboat. Then we untied the lines in the middle of the Swedish winter in January 2016.
Our sailing adventures have taken us halfway around the world, we have welcomed our daughter Vera and bought a new boat. In 2022 we started working on another dream, building our dream boat! It's a 50ft sailboat built out of timber & epoxy/fiberglass and we do everything ourselves.

The boat is anything but a cookie-cutter design. It looks like an ingenious interpretation of a Dashew yacht. That makes it a very exciting project to follow through the build and sea trials and following explorations. Thanks for having us along.
What impresses me most is your approach to get these very large jobs done as efficiently as possible. As an old machinist who did lots of short to medium production jobs, your approach to tackle every operation of the project in a manner of one thing at a time, only moving forward to a finished product. All the lay out, all the measurements and cutting, all the epoxy, all the readiness with gloves etc. truly is a sight to watch. You are without a doubt the most methodical boat builder presently, on the planet!😮 Your boat will be a masterpiece. 😊 Of course there may be some watching you that you drive crazy, 😂 but I am not one of them.❤
Sorry to bother you but desperately trying to find out the brand of davit arms you had on the sailboat. I watched the video of installing but could not find brand. Love your journey. Thank you
Well done for reaching the end to this monumental phase of the internal fibre glass work. Looks like you are making great inroads on the house too.👍⛵️😀
Know that we are virtually right there with you doing the Arduous,Tedious, Back/Arm/Shoulder/Knees/Neck breaking strains of laminating work!! If that isn't enough it has to be done through the night to kick properly!!😮😢......Honestly You 2 are boat building Warriors!!....Just think how much fun it will be to build in the furniture!......And what a Wonderful surprise it was to see Johan building a tree house for Vera and see her expert explanation of her special hideaway!! She's growing tall and is Beautiful! Hope your home renos are also going well!❤❤❤
Another remarkable week of progress for the RAN team. You mentioned creating a grid structure for the keel, but durjng a conversation with an X Yacht's representative the other week, he explained how their yachts use a galvanised steel grid which connects the keel and keel grid by a ring structure around the hull to the rig. This forms what looks like an exceptionally strong connection between keel, hull and rig, helping spread all the loads. It looks pretty bullet proof to me and I have to say if this was my boat I think I would try to emulate their system. Having seen the design I'm surprised it's not been copied (to my knowledge) by others.
Not only do you do great content, on your life and your adventures, but you also provide great music with your content. Thank you, from an older guy. Love your channel. (ex muso).
I think your going to have a very strong boat. People built ships with slats back in the day without fiberglass, and you did both sides here, plus reinforced sections with fiberglass. You could see how strong the boat is a couple of months ago when you flipped the hull, and it really didn't flex at all.
Your smart for having a full face air filter setup I see alot of people on RU-vid building boat with just a air filter not worried about their eyes it's crazy.
Malin the hull the house and garden are looking great, I can’t believe how fast Vera is growing. Johan that was one epic day you put in, look after yourself. I worked long hard hours (own business) and damaged myself. It cost me. Be proud of yourself and family.
So enjoying your videos. I have been saddened these past two weeks as two sailing channels I have been following are calling it quits and selling their boats. It's so good to know you and the family have been here for the long haul and will continue to do so. Cheers.
Grymt Malin och Johan, Otroligt fint arbete ni gör. Jag är lite avundsjuk på utsikten från er lada. Min båtbyggarlada har inte samma vid sträckta utsikt. Ha det så gött, vi hörs.
Astounding your house was built around the same time as the American civil war... and that's not even old by Sweden standards! 😅 Everything's looking amazing. Great choice with the roof tiles.
A fiberglass super expert of 50 years told me to start with the larger pieces and build the increasingly smaller ones on top as I go. Opposite from what you did. I wonder what's the difference?
Great job om the hull with the fibreglassing. Those roof tiles look lovely. It must feel good to keep improving your homespace. Looking great. Love the vlog :)
So beautiful to see a family working together in love. YAH Most High bless you all abundantly and keep you. Oh, and the music and editing is amazing too
Dear RAN people. You do know that laminating can be much more comfortable by using broom handle extensions to your rollers, so you are able to stand upright and use two hands to roll out rather than just one hand, while kneeling?
You don’t get close enough to the laminate to see any imperfections with exstension handles and you also don’t get enough pressure. We tried it, but not with very good results. Cheers!
Another brilliant episode, you're both doing a fantastic job on the hull, Johan is very meticulous and very practical, its so good to see a man work the way you do Johan, you're doing a very good job and in a few years you'll be able to look back and say I built this boat very proudly, all the very best to you three from the old Englishman.
I am retired and live in WV USA. I have followed you for years. I'd have to search my notes to tell you how long. Years, before Vera. I look forward to your videos so much! Very much want to see you sail this yacht!
