It's honestly really stupid that this is the solution. Lemmings was always a "think of ways on how to pass this level with your limited resources" type game. But this is a "abuse this glitch that we turned into a feature" type level
With a lemming, I have dug and after this, i have bashed until the end and I put the ladders. I think it's better and easier solution than yours. However, it is curious this way.

Years ago, while playing on Windows, when I was near the end of a level, the game simply crashed. Massacre. I had to try 20 times for it to finally work (probably some game bug) and it only worked when I set the resolution to low and turned off the music and sounds.
I don't think I would have ever worked that out, thanks. Had no issue with all levels previous. Funny as I was thinking loads of strategies and about how do I make a Lemming turn back, this never crossed my mind though.

The trick to this level is making sure the lemmings are in a confined space as possible before releasing them to face the crushers so the confinement minimises casualties
This is one of those songs so terribly mapped it takes hours to all excellent I know for a fact a group of triplets is not that hard to play, they over complicate such a straight forward sound, I hope whoever mapped some of these songs never does a rhythm game ever again cause damn this is so hard just cause of the note spacing in almost every other part and the end just totally wrecks there’s almost a hit too many cause it’s accounting for the 16th rest in between chains how is a level 14 harder than almost every other level 15 this should’ve been a level 16
Something else I remember from back in the day was being given a "solution" to this level which doesn't actually work. Send 8 athletes over the big block (in order to meet the quota), and use the next lemming to bash through it. Then build up to the final platform, at the top turn the builder into a basher, then turn the basher into a climber. It doesn't work because making a lemming a climber doesn't make it stop bashing. Even if it did, I'm also not sure that the other lemmings would actually make it up there in this instance.
This is the level I was really stuck on in my youth. I've a recollection that I eventually managed to get past it but when I tried it today couldn't seem to remember how. But the solution you give (apart from the initial bashing through the big block) is exactly how I did Tricky 19 in the end - I don't know how I managed not to think to do the same here!

So that's how you're supposed to get the climber to turn around :) My sister and I succeeded with a different approach yesterday. 1. Turn release rate up to 99 to get everyone in a clump. 2. Have one lemming climb the high step and build a bridge over the pit. 3. Have another climb, dig down slightly, and then start bashing. The others can make it up as he bashes along, until he gets to the first shallow step and then anyone still toward the left is trapped. But if it's few enough, you can make them all climbers to walk through the bashed tunnel and climb up the wall of the pit to the exit.

I feel like my solution was simpler than this: use the lemming sent ahead to build a bridge from the ledge to the column. I also kept one lemming separate from the group with another blocker for later. I built a zig-zag bridge up to the ledge that the house is on, turned the builder into a blocker, then blew him up. I then sent the second lemming I'd reserved to finish building the bridge up to the house. I got 95% that round, though if I'd planned things better I might've gotten 97%.
I figured it out! Or rather, somebody else on youtube figured it out. If you want to avoid this level depending too much on chance, have a lemming on each side build a ladder starting from the extreme edge of where they're gathering. Starting there will make it so they *just* fall short of actually going over the edge. That makes it WAY easier later on to make sure you get a lemming going in the right direction. It's still a hard level, but that makes it significantly easier. You can get 100% on this without too much trouble. I had the second lemming bash right through one of the low points, then build to stop. I then had a lemming that had turned around bash to the left and build to stop. All the lemmings got trapped in that little hole until I had one guy build them out. I only got 98% on that attempt because one lemming got away, but I think I could've gotten all of them with some practice.
[DOS] I'm adamant that this level shouldn't have made the final cut the way it is. It requires precision perfect targeting of lemmings with the build tool, but that pixel you need to hit is hidden amongst a sea of lemmings all moving in different directions. Completing this level relies on chance rather than skill. If your strategy is good it should be reproducible every time, and forcing a player to grind is cruel. I'm fucking mad how much time I've given to this level.
I don't know how but my tentacle chart is gone, nobody has it in its inventory so I cannot use it for changing the flag design.... probably a bug but without it my playthrough is ruined and I dont have any save

It's a shame Nintendo no longer accepted Lemmings on their future systems. The motion and stylus controls on Wii, Wii U and DS would've been perfect for them, but Lemmings are officially owned by Sony/PlayStation and we all know they don't cooperate with Nintendo when it comes to Video Games like that
