People have strange ideas about how this dirty old place was better than today. Maybe they're just bitter old fellas and old wans. There are things we all miss but i wouldn't go back to the smelly dirty city it was. I will say that i wish theyd bring back the train to tramore. Stupid decision.
I started my apprenticeship in fas back in the 27/August 1984 as a sheet metal worker Waterford was full of moods strange because mods went out of fashion in Dublin where im from in 1980 I have good memories of all the lads that were doing the course with me and some good memories of Waterford itself
A great ol city in its day when it wasn't full of scum n dirt and you could drive around it no problem and as for the council clowns who made a right balls of the quay no words for those idiots those were better days for all waterford people times n things changed all for the worst
Mad to see how empty the streets are, except for cars bombing around. No wonder several people were killed crossing the Quay over the years. Thankfully those days are behind us and the city is so much nicer and walkable. Even the New York Times has us on its must-visit list now, so we’re clearly doing something right.
There used to be a saying that went "All on one side - like the town of Fermoy". Never made a whole lotta sense to me. If the saying went "All on one side, like the town -- _city_ -- of Waterford"! I'd know what they meant, straightaway!
Does annybody have the version where Jimmy is younger and has two or three lads doing backing vocals. Mary sounds to me like a beautifil lark in his song. Nice to see the fellas with the sleeves rolled up, singing away with cig in hand.
I love Christy Moore but this man is a much more talented Lyricist and songwriter. Can’t even compare this to Joxer or Lisdonvarna. The Contender as well, just right’s beautiful Irish ballads.
