What about all these people advertising 50c coin rings on media platforms? There is quite a few. I believe the laws in the US are "Only illegal for fraudulant purpose" I just assumed the same law applied here.
Very good point. I heard of a bloke who had a collection of over $1 mill in old, gold coins and in order to be insured, they had to be stored in a bank or mint vault. He was allowed to take them home to look at for 1 hr p/week. 🤔
A wonderful collectors piece. I would love to have one of these sets in my collection. When lotto finally calls, I'll know where to go shopping first!! lol
What a fantastic event, Matt Held instore again today it was great to see so many new faces and great to meet up with Matt and joel even though I was 45 minutes late to the gathering it was still well worth the 1.5 hour drive to visit Keep up the great work Matt It’s great to see the variety of the items you’re offering expanding each time I visit so I plan to visit much more often. Thank you again for the opportunity today to meet Joel and it was great to catch up. Take care and talk soon.
First time I heard about them back in the day, I thought they were called “Monday” money 😱. Btw, is the 4 penny coin also called a ‘groat’? Thanks 🙋🏻♂️
@@jamiefrost2091 id never thought about how similar that sounds! The 4 penny is also indeed commonly referred to as a groat! Thanks so much for watching ☺️☺️
Entertaining and interesting video. I did know of their existence, but I still learned a lot by watching this so thank you. By the way, I love that Canadian jeweled coin you can see in the background. I wish I had got one when they were issued. That was in 2022 wasn't it? Canada make some interesting coins.
@@peecee1384 thanks for watching! I think the coin you're seeing is from the cover of a set of coins which comes with a hard cover book, the book is quite fascinating and well presented. I definitely think Canada is leading the charge on coin design innovation!
My understanding was that Maundy recipients receive one penny for every year of the sovereigns age, for example if the monarch was 71 years old they would receive 7 sets of the 4 coins plus an additional penny. I'm not sure how many recipients are selected each year. I am fortunate to have one of those 1937 sets, it's pretty special.
The Four Maundy Coins minted in 22 karat gold were included as part of the 2002 Queen Elizabeth II Golden Jubilee 13 Gold Proof Coins Sets from the Royal Mint.
Great video Matty 👍 I have a Georgivs 3rd 1800 Maundy penny in my collection and until now I didn't know anything about it's history thanks mate 😎 very cool , funny thing about this coin is that I brought it thinking it was the size of a Morgan dollar and when I received it I was surprised as to how tiny it is 😅 considering I payed about 50 dollar bucks for this coin I figured it must be some what special in some way and now I know 👍 thanks for the history lesson and I'm looking forward to the next one ,more videos like this please 💯🎯
@@matthewvaughan1200 thanks for watching mate! I'm glad to have been able to share some interesting information and I can imagine a few people would be shocked to see how small the penny is when you have it in hand 🤣
A friend of mine owns the 1902 full Maundy set for Edward VII’s coronation. It’s incredible. And it also has similar to George VI, all the other denominations. Most notably it also includes the gold coinage, including a quintuple sovereign!
Wow, I’m quite surprised Maundy sets have made it to Australia; they’re certainly not common. 1937 - I wonder if any Edward VIII sets ever existed. And ‘Mandatum’ - that’s where the word Mandate comes from. And Mandatory. Interesting video - thanks! 👍
@@UKDark_Mark thanks for watching Mark! I was always fascinated with them several years ago when I saw a few come through the shop in Sydney so it was great to be able to highlight these ones in my own shop! On the subject of Edward VIII, we never got any coinage in Australia with his portrait but I highlighted an interesting banknote in a previous video which would be among the rarest notes I've ever handled! Thanks for watching ☺️
Love the Queen Victoria set is it for sale in the shop? Or personal collection? I love the history behind them I can’t see anything similar for australia we have our own awards already in place but it would be interesting if they did issue something here. Can never say thank you to people with kind hearts too many times
@@AussieGirl-oq8cp it was for sale in the shop! Both sets from the video sold within a very short time of this video going up but I've added a lovely range of Maundy sets to the site now ☺️ I agree, it's always nice to recognise the kindness in the community! Thanks for watching!
great vid again Matt...cant say I;d ever heard of the sets before. Always good to learn. How many times have you come across them? and since no one gas said it...First...not first 😁
@@mcduncanpresents9389 thanks for watching mate! I've come across a few over the years and if you check the link in the video you'll see an impressive selection of them now available but it's not every day you see these interesting sets in Australia 🥳
