I've recently discovered your channel & am enjoying to videos. We have just started to plan a trip to Sicily in the Fall of 2025 & its become my go to to help me draw up a plan for our visit. Mosaics are my first love & I appreciate the detail you showed in this video. The villa is on the top of our list! Thank you.
Eszter and Alfredo, thank so much for your contribution to put Sicily and everything Sicilian on the map for the Sicilian diaspora. In fact the latter, is the group seeking out it's roots and connection to Sicily, NOT the Sicilians who regrettably are not aware of their rich culture and history. In the 20 facts, just wanted to mention that Sicilian, is currently considered a "vulnerable" language by UNESCO. So sad, to note that the younger generation is almost embarrassed to speak Italian. This is the unfortunate situation 164 years after the forced unification of Italy (I am being polite here). One source I use to consult is Gaetano Basile, I think he's also on Instagram. Keep up the good work. (I follow your program every Sunday)
About 20 years ago, during the height of the revamped godfather trilogy re release, and sopranos popularity, i got sick of the stereotype and invented a comic book based on my crazy sicilian- american family, using all our quirks and such for humor to show we were just another american family and no mob connection....just humor of every day italo american every day life... Nobody would touch it...they only wanted mob stuff....i sold 41 copies of my book before sales petered out and that was that...at least i tried. The worst part was when my kid joined the military and upon discovering he was sicilian, they questioned him about any possible mob connection before he got his position.....my stepmother was also insulted thusly at her work before all this PC culture started....the Hollywood establishment will simply not let our stereotype die, theres too much money in it. Especially now with african Americans admiring and respecting that " OG" culture....theres a demand, and entertainment is there with its hand out, making money smearing us .
My fathers dna test showed all of this, 30 percent greek,70 percent Italian...with the little pie chart showing small percentages therein of all the invaders throughout the centuries. Our house was in naro, by agrigento, and across the street on a hill from dad's house was the ruins of a castle that local legend says was the castle of a king, possibly greek that they referred to as ," the pig king"... We were not far from the beach, or the valley of the temples...i recall the soil was everywhere full of ancient pottery shards and seashells, indicating almost limitless proof of continued human habitation for eons...yes, im very proud of my ancestors homeland. Never forget who and what you are
Absolutely beautiful. I remember going there in 1995. So much more has been excavated since then. Back then you actually walked on the mosaics. It's great to see how they are now being protected.
Hi Eszter and Alfred. Thank you for sharing the stunning mosaics. Just wanted to ask Alfred what comes first on the list, the company? Great setting for your evening meal and, as always, the best views. 👌 🙌 😊 condolences to James. Much love ❤️
Are you related to Michael Savage? Your accent sounds just like him & you look like you could be related. Enjoy your videos. Congrats on nice lifestyle.
I’m heading to Sicily this August and I’m looking forward to swimming in the mediterranean Sea, especially with fresh volcanic ash. Here’s a fun fact: volcanic ash and seawater can indeed form materials known for their ability to detoxify by removing heavy metals. One such material is zeolite. Zeolites have a high affinity for heavy metals due to their porous structure and negatively charged surfaces, which attract and trap positively charged ions like heavy metals. This property makes zeolites useful in water filtration systems and environmental remediation processes aimed at reducing heavy metal contamination. 👍
Don’t look toward Singapore, look toward Iceland with their geothermal plants to create electricity Sicily has “Mother Etna” to produce the same “free energy”. Though the garbage reduction or waste to energy plants are intriguing. Thanks for your videos, trying to get dual citizenship (but just starting) with roots from Palermo.
We are in Sicily, no problems of water in B&b and Hotels and around. No emergency but they will receive many euros from national government....this island is spectacular
Great video! We are coming to Catania this summer. Is the smoke toxic to inhale? You mentioned the drought is "under control," so it wont effect us in ANY way? Is there, for ex a limit of the number of water bottles one can buy? Or will water not come out of the faucet certain time of the day? Loved your ideas on desalination. Oh and on a side note , wouldn't orzata make you more thirsty since it is made with so much sugar...lol 😜
1. We are not a third world country! You can drink water until you float. 2. This is an annual occurrence. The authorities manage it well. 3. The almond drink is refreshing!
Where are you visiting in Catania? The smoke is not toxic. No there is no limit to water bottles you can buy. Yes there is water from faucet. That's whuy Eszter only drinks lemon water :)
Hi. This is Silvio. If you allow me to give you some advices, when you'll get on Catania, don't pass up to taste the peculiares Catania sodas on "chioschi" (features building on the streets and squares). Let's try mandarino al limone or Tamarindo or selts limone e sale.
As always, Professor Faraci gives us brilliant lessons and You Me and Sicily keeps us updated on Sicilian news…. I'm completely crazy about the Zappala incinerator 👏🏻 and I'm honored to have met Prof Faraci during my personal training a few years ago at the University of Catania! A big shout out for the Sicilian Project upcoming plans🤞🏻Love you all guys, grazie
While you are waiting for the Government to get it's act together ... search : Warka Water Tower. It is a viable water solution for people at the local level. 💧!
I certinly agree with you about all you said. When I visit sisily there is so much diversity, mountains ,beaches, and it looks even dessert love sicily greetings from malta ❤
Al you are right about the ash creating soil fertility. As for the drought, ppl who seriously want to do something about it, should be looking at what has already been achieved in Australia, Africa, China, India and the Middle East under various Greening the Desert projects and on farms. In Perth Australia where I live, we get no rainfall for 5-6 months of the year, but despite that, I designed my food forest garden as a Drylands garden. It is abundant year round bc all the trees tap into ground water, receiving no additional watering. Anybody in Sicily could be trained to return water to the landscape. Here's the story of one farmer who turned his drought stricken farm into creating its own source of water by restoring the environment using earth works and planting drought tolerant trees. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE--4OBcRHX1Bc.html
New to your show and love that you are talking and showing how Sicily and Catania is so beautiful. I left Catania to the U.S with my mom and dad and sisters when I was 4 years old. I am coming with my wife for our 27th anniversary and my first time back home. I am so excited to be doing this and love your show. Have you visited Vilarosa where my father is from and Caltanissetta where my mom is from. I want to visit there as well as Catania from July 23 - July 30. I love my country (Sicily) and I thank you for showing people who we Sicilians are. Ciao.
Very interesting video today! We enjoyed listening to Prof. Faraci. Congratulations on 10 years! We have been enjoying your videos for years and we enjoyed even more meeting you and Stephania in Catania last year! We like Alfreds idea!!!! But Salvo has added his two cents and thinks that Sicily should take some advice from Israel! If they can turn a dessert into farm land that produces amazing produce, why not Sicily?
My family was from Santo Stefano Quisquina. I’m going to buy something in Sicily soon. 😊Thank you both for all the wonderful information and laughs. ❤❤
Love you guys. You always make me smile. Good to see you with your hat off Alfred, lol 😆 I'm sure that the water situation will get resolved it's a vital project for the island, which has to happen. Thank you for another brilliant video. Much love 😊❤
Excellent Video! Like American news, international news always seems to mislead us. Mama Etna is a living volcano and sometimes has to make her voice heard!!!
