I got my drum set 6 weeks ago, and bc I play several instruments I caught on quick. This video is very helpful and I'm studying it closely- thank you so much for sharing, I appreciate the lesson 💜💜
Thank you for reacting. Richard Sterban from the Oaks was doing the lyrical bass line most perfectly, as Tim was doing the melodic bass line. What you are hearing is Richard's voice. Tim did not intrude on his "hero's" main vocal. ALL of them did wonderful !
Hi... I just need a little advice... I'm a cymbal collector (unfortunately)... I just end up buying a few cymbals that I don't always need... So, can you please let me know how I could store them without them losing any of their tonal quality for long?
Great question! Best conditions for longer term cymbal storage is somewhere cool and dry. However I would definitely say the ‘dry’ part of that is the most important! People put them in their garages, where there’s lots of damp and then wonder why their cymbals get destroyed! Inside the house is best, but if you can find a storage space that’s either temperature controlled or just sealed off from the elements, you should be fine :)
They are, however they don’t usually have the amount of dampening that I require! That being said, I probably should’ve done a test with no additional dampening… something to remember for next time! ☺️
@OwenAlec you are welcome brotha! You are very talented I've enjoyed watching you play. I've had the opertunity to see Travis Barker perform with Blink-182 three times the first time being 2001, and the last in 2004. I seen him with Boxcar, The Transplants, and +44. He's my all time favorite drummer.
I am an i5 user on snare. I got a great deal on a Beta 56A. I still prefer the i5 on snare after this video but the 56A sounded fine, more like a 57 to my ear. I do like the idea of the 56A for vocals due to the rejection. I have used Beta 58s for "normal" vocals and like them better than standard 58s. Thanks for the good video.
That is my 13x6 British Drum Co Spalted Beech over Birch Legend Series Snare :) Definitely one of my favourites, but for my recent videos I’ve been using a 14x6 Mapex Black Panther Predator Copper Snare… sounds amazing!
Really like your breakdown and teaching of heel-toe Owen. Wanja Gröger is the main advocate I’ve seen for "heel-toe single strokes", as you might know. I find it a compelling technique in that (to me) it’s basically the same physicality for each foot but just rhythmically "offsetting" the other foot by half the value of whatever the first foot plays. That said, I’m struggling with keeping my balance using it (as a lover of metal but not someone who’s played much)!
@@OwenAlec I may end up switching to/trying out doubles at some point ("sounds no different on a record", as one previous teacher said), if it ends up breaking my brain too much :D
What brands have I tried? I've always stuck with 5a and 5b.. Brands, I've used Vic Firth, Collision, Vater, Promark and Balbex.. Balbex are my one go to brand. They're well balanced, light, robust, feel great and not over priced. I recommend them.
As someone who's struggled to find the perfect stick I've managed to settle on 5A and 5Bs it's a perfect size for me, I also like the carbon Fibre sticks but it's definitely a trial and error finding what works.
Admittedly, I had a rather bad experience with Carbon Fibre sticks... cracked my cymbals within about 2 weeks! Might've been a coincidence but I wasn't willing to risk it again... back to wood sticks for me 😅
@@OwenAlec oh wow I cracked my cymbal with wood sticks I have the Zildjian I series thankfully under warranty with Zildjian but I still use my wood sticks i had one break once and it hit me in the face lol
We all know whose homework they copied… BUT, for those who want to stay brand exclusive it’s finally here lol. Heads like these are perfect for live shows at small places cause it gives you a great sound without mixing/micing up a kit. I’m pretty sure they tried doing this with the Powersonic but the Powersonic isn’t that great so they just pulled the trigger on making these. I’m curious to know what the coated emperor smt would be like compared to this though.
You'd be surprised at how unreliable Evans heads are. They barely last me even one practice while Remo lasts me for months of extensive gigging and for years of extensive practices. I'm glad Remo came up with this version, as I am regular user of their dampening ring with a foam that goes onto the drum shell right before you put the drum head on it.
I love my Evans heads on toms but could never get my Emad/Gmad to play nice. I recently got the emperor SMT to replace my Powerstroke Pro and I love it.
I know this is oldish but the noises in Only Stars that gave strange sounding were actual audio from Cockroaches the band had which harkens back to the story of the Cockroach King in The Mountain
Here is south africa one of these sets goes for R10 000 brand new. Ive just picked up a set, that was bought for a church but never used for R1600. Good times👌🏼
