I play this on piano as an addition to Ashokan Farewell. The Lovers Waltz makes a lovely addition with the key change from D to G and change of rythmn. I prefer it to Ashokan.
This made me cry as it reminded me of my daughter playing it at the feast of tabernacles it is the sorrow of leaving that place where you are joy filled like jay under when he left the place he wrote it .
To me this song feels kind of like a dream where you become lucid in certain parts of it, realizing your feelings and actions in different manifestations throughout it ...the cycles of non linear feeling and thought after a breakup...
I fell in love with what I considered an original period ballad with Ken Burns' doc. Hats off to the truthful art work in our time. The letters were the inspiration.
I'm a surgeon and a composer. Interestingly, I have learned more from Tom about human interaction, being a team player, how to make something better, "in the service of some-thing"...a patient. Medical school did an aweful job of teaching these principles...and I'm afraid it continues to...in all of my interactions with Hollywood film composers, I have learned how to be not only a better composer, but a better person and a better physician. I'm looking forward to meeting Thomas.
Whenever I hear this wonderful waltz I conjure up a vision of whirling around a ballroom in a floaty dress in the arms of the man of my dreams. We are so in love, and time stands still. Then, at 76 now, I wake up at the end, and have tears in my eyes for this vision long gone, but still I dream on......
If ever a song took me back in time, this was it. Stumbling on this by the guy who wrote this timeless classic and being accompanied by Molly Mason is pure gold.
