Hey friends! I’m Mindy… Daughter of the King, wife to my hubs, and mama to 4 kiddos (ages 14, 7, 5, and 2).
We are in our 5th year of homeschooling & will be doing Kindergarten, 2nd grade, and 9th grade.
I am a former public school teacher who felt called to leave my career and teach my own children, be present with them in these precious years, and raise up arrows using the Word of God (Psalm 127:4).
This channel highlights how our family homeschools in the state of New York and will often highlight how we learn "beyond the books," but will also show what curriculum we choose to utilize. I don't have homeschooling all figured out; I'm certainly not perfect, but my hope is that you will find inspiration & encouragement as you navigate your own homeschooling journey.

Hey thank you for this video! So in our IHIP we wrote we would do standardized testing but for the name of the test we wrote (to be announced) How can I change it to written naritive...? Can i "undo" what was written down in the ihip?
Yes you can change your mind. You don’t have to do anything now, but when you send in your quarter 3 report, I would suggest writing a statement at the top such as, “As part of our annual assessment, I will be writing a narrative instead of administering a standardized test. I wanted you to be aware of this change.” Then send in your narrative with your quarter 4 report. I hope this helps! 😊
@@BaileyAcademy yes it is. For example one part says “Does this book have a biblical worldview? How do you see God in this person’s story?” These questions are sprinkled through the reading journal. And then there is an entire section for Nonfiction Christian Lifestyle/Leadership
We're using the Not Consumed reading journal with my 9th grader too! She has done two fiction books so far with it, and it's gone very well. She struggled with the essays, but iI have her in IEW 1B right now, so we did skip those at this time.
@@cassandravite6103 The one I showed in the video is for A Long Walk to Water here is the link for that one: www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/A-Long-Walk-to-Water-Chapter-Questions-Vocabulary-5663967
I have a good friend that had a very rare stage four breat cancer about nine years ago and after chemo and radiation she is cancer-free! Has been for about 7-8 years! God can work miracles!😊 Thank you for sharing! May God’s peace and comfort be with you during your treatments. ❤
@@shotxgunxsinners7632 It depends on the age of the child. “Children must attend school or comply with the homeschool laws starting in the school year in which they turn 6 on or before December 1.” hslda.org/post/compulsory-school-age-in-new-york
If anyone happens to be interested in following my healing journey from cancer, here is the link to that channel: youtube.com/@mindyshealingjourney?si=37DYuKjZeocvk_rW @mindyshealingjourney
I prayed deeply for you. Last year, my beloved Granny/adopted mother passed away from Stage 4 Breast Cancer but my Granny had an amazing relationship with God and she truly fought as hard as her body could. But her peace to transition to our Lord made her journey so beautiful and eternally rewarding. We prayed just like you requested for God's will to be done to heal her body and He still answered that prayer by ultimately gifting her with His powerful healing when He called her home with Him forever. She is beyond missed and will always be so loved in our hearts and God did a mighty work through her journey and she left a godly legacy for Him and God was truly glorified every step of the way. I believe with unwavering faith and I have tunnel vision on Christ Jesus that God can and He is fully able to do His will of a mighty divine work and MIRACLE in your life while lavishing you with His love, favor, grace, mercy, and all spiritual blessings throughout your journey. Continue to praise and trust Him while you are in the waiting room-the waiting room is a metaphor of God working behind His Holy Curtain on your behalf. He has great plans and a purpose for your life even though you can't see it just wait. Fully lean into Jesus in such an unrelentingly way like never before. You belong to Jesus no matter what and since Jesus has already been victorious over death, sin, and the enemy, a disease like cancer is nothing that He can't handle too. You are fearfully and wonderfully made and so loved beyond words! Our prayers have no shelf life and that goes for God's miraculously healing power too. Let the wonder working power of Jesus blood flow through you and I'm praying that it will be saturated through your body down to the cellular level to eradicate all cancerous cells to flee and never return in JESUS NAME! You are whole, well, healed, and restored for you are covered and redeemed by the blood of Jesus* May our God bless you and keep you. May our Father shine His face upon you. May God give you His countenance and grant you His peace, love, kindness, mercy, favor, contentment, grace, sovereignty, and so much more. May our Father anchor you, your marriage, your children, and your entire family through your hopeful victory for another Red Sea and monumental testimony and celebration of God🙌🏾🌊🎉With immense love in Christ Jesus-your sister in Christ🤗🙏🏾🙌🏾
So sorry. be encouraged I know im a stranger but im a sister in Christ if you need someone to talk to other then your usual I’m here !! So serious! You’re a warrior. Be brave be strong 💪
So sad to hear that you have cancer but glory be to God he will keep you strong and you will have a testimony to share. Know that we will pray for you and love you.
I’ll be praying for you. Our God is the God of the impossible. I pray for strength and healing and a miracle for you. God is with us on the mountain and in the valley even when it’s hard to see Him, He’s there. I pray that you and your family sense His presence with you always. Give yourself grace with homeschooling, don’t worry if homeschool looks different for a season, and like you said they will be learning life lessons and that is priceless. On another note: There are cooling helmets I’ve heard of that can stop or at least reduce hair loss during chemo.
Hi. Thank you for your video. I just started homeschooling my son. I'm using Time4learning platform. Can I list the website for the main subjects on the IHIP form?
I would try to list a few topics for each subject area that NY requires. For example Math: adding & subtracting 2 digit numbers, telling time to the half-hour, identifying dollar bills & coins, etc. Science: force, motion, gravity, Newton’s Laws, etc I feel like most districts want to see at least a little bit of info. And then on your quarterly reports you can go more in-depth as to what was covered. I hope that helps!
Yes, I would include your plans for testing in your Q3 report (the name of the test you are going to use). Then after you test and have your results, send them along with your Q4 report.
This is my second year homeschooling my son, he is starting 1st grade now and things are different and confusing but now that I've watched you video, its super simple. Thank you so much!!! Do you have a link to the quarterly reports? That's what is next on my confusing list. Thank you!
@@GinaMarie5 You’ve got this!! ☺️ Here’s my Quarterly Report video, I hope you find it just as helpful! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-fmEQOIx9Y1o.htmlsi=hN_ekLXQcoZMS-QO
Thank you for this channel. We are starting to homeschool our 8 and 9 year old in New York. We are tying to find out how many hours a day and how many subjects are required in New York. Do you have any resources you can share? Thanks.
Welcome to homeschooling in NY. For grades 1-6, you need to have taught 900 hours for the year. Here are the required subjects for grades 1-6 (slightly different at the middle & high school levels, for future reference): Arithmetic Reading Spelling Writing English Geography US History Science Health Music Visual arts Physical education Here’s a link to HSLDA’s website that gives this information: hslda.org/post/how-to-comply-with-new-yorks-homeschool-law
@@beyondthebookshomeschool Thank you! Yesterday we had the opportunity to meet with another homeschool mother of two who sat with us and explained everything. We are using BJU Press and tomorrow is day one! Pray for us :).
@@boomerfxvideo I’m so glad to hear that!! In-person meet ups are wonderful so I’m glad you had that opportunity. Praying for your family! Happy homeschooling 😊
@@leelee185 what grade is your kiddo in? Because you can write a narrative instead of giving a test for grades 1-3, and then write a narrative every other grade until grade 8. Be sure to watch the full video, I explain everything in depth. Here is where I order my tests from: shopchristianliberty.com I give the test in my home, then mail it back to the company and they score it. They mail me the results.
Thank you! My wife and I are starting to homeschool our two girls in long island and were overwhelmed by the IHIP. But you made it so easy! We are using Bob Jones Press.
@@beyondthebookshomeschool Okay, thank you so much for sharing that! Could you please do a video on how you organize your lessons each day? I know these little Hearts and Hands are just once per week. So, I'm curious how much time you spend with the other subjects.
Thank for sharing ! I enjoy watching your end of year review and hearing what was completed. We are beginning our first year of homeschool for our 1st grade son ❤
