It isn't true to say that gay people or those who identify as trans are not protected from harassment or in education context. What it actually says in the Act is that in these instances the lesser state of harassment is basically leapfrogged and it automatically becomes direct discrimination. The school and/or perpetrator would still face the consequences. So it is an outright lie for Tatchell to misrepresent the Equality Act in his speech and imply that there is no protection from harassment for anyone in those two groups in those situations. But, hey, when did misrepresenting the Equality Act lead to any problems (looking at you Stonewall and Mermaids).
