This hits so much for me. Thank you for taking such a complex, confusing and polarising subject and not only humanising it but explaining it so so so satisfyingly. You’ve really taken me a few bounds forward mentally with these wonderful 22 minutes (which I know would have been hundreds of hours of work in actuality). I just want to say, thank you.

The card table scene was made to serve a purpose, it says nothing about lance being violent. Q and L boogie go back, Q knew what buttons to push and how far to go. Many people miss a lot in the movie, the director made Quentin the silent narrator. Just because he’s up front and ruff around the edges, people write him off as none important to the characters that on the surface are not together as it seems. People still want to believe that putting on airs and dressing things up for the eyes 👀 to see will disguise vulnerabilities. Quentin refuses to be fake and be himself and has no skeletons and no secrets, That’s Real, better than all other characters in this movie.

Harper said at the card table they were dating for a couple of years. He referred to this talking about her finally choosing a career. This was funny 😂

I'm not even 10 minutes into the movie, and in my opinion, it's already not believable. I didn't say unbelievable, I said not believable. I've met plenty of nasty mother-in-laws that would talk mad extra $h!t, but not directly in front of wifey and definitely not telling wanna-be would-be wifey replacement directly in front of wifey. Chicks that I grew up with would have quickly told that redheaded witch where she could go. In fact, now that I'm thinking about it, I don't even know dudes that soft that wouldn't tell a nasty witch where to go even if that witch was his mother. It's completely not believable. The only reason I'm going to continue to watch is so I can look at Kelly Rowland. Straight up. Edit: ok, so now I'm up to where Mea decides to actually take on the case. She's hired RonReaco Lee (Jimmy) as a private investigator and he is soooo good. I remember him in The Shield (one of my all-time favorites). So far, he's a breath of fresh air reading into the bu!!$h!t. Oh btw, I'm still only watching to look at Kelly Rowland. Ok edit: I'm at the point where Kelly Rowland's lips are glistening, and I'm still only watching to look at Kelly Rowland. Edit: Kal (Mea's husband) just murdered them $h!ts (sexual connotation) and then finished, rolled over, layed on his back, and then took a deep breath, like he was a soft @$$ n!gg@ that couldn't handle it. Nothing about this dude impresses me. To be honest, I picture Tyler Perry as the character Kal. And I'm still only watching to look at Kelly Rowland as she puts on a sheer cover up, equally unimpressed as I am with Kal's ending performance. Edit: I watched the entire film and the more it played, the more predictable it became. I mean, it wasn't the worst movie I've ever seen, but in all honesty, (as I'm sure you've figured out by now) the only reason I watched should be the only reason you watch...to look at Kelly Rowland.

King & followers + Black Panthers would be an interesting contrast. Same suffering, but different plans to end suffering. Lots happened in the 1960s.

I thought the movie was good. The acting was great. Jeffrey Wright is in a league of his own. I can take a joke/jab, but making every single white character a buffoon was distracting to me.

his agent is white and is probably the only one who gets that the way he makes books aren't selling. Given he's played by light skinned Hispanic. But His name is Arthur, so they were definitely aiming for him to be most depicting a white person. Actually there's alot of non-buffon white people in the movie. the point is that buffoon ones aren't Dumb but have a preconception of what it means to be black
@rustymertz
@rustymertz 3 дня назад
@@reggiefreeborn2143 John Ortiz(actor playing his agent) is Puerto Rican. There definitely was not “a lot” of non-buffoon white people in the movie. The only other white character that wasn’t a “buffoon” was the book store clerk, but he was cast as a skinny, dorky character. A buffoon is someone whose ridiculous behavior is a source of amusement for others. The actual point of the story is that his writings were so ludicrous it shouldn’t get published, but the (white) powers that be ate it up no matter how “ridiculous” Monk made it. Pretty much every white character was written to be seen as an idiot. Disagree? Name one(not the agent) that you viewed as someone with integrity.

Absolute excellent critique. I have been saying this for years. Optics and balance representation is everything. We need our own media network, great script writers (no to Tyler P🙄)etc and put our money into companies that tell our enriched narratives and support our creativity. I refused to watch 12 years a slave when it came out. Still haven't seen it nor do I intend to. Dont watch black struggle love movies either. I wasn't impressed with Spike Lee's She's gotta have it when it came out back in the days nor his reasoning behind it .Sick of the stereotypes. Thank you for the pointers as to how we the public can help to change things. You have a new subscriber ❤

Well you know what happened in Best Man Holiday. Sadly Mia got sick and died. I feel years they were married he loved and cherished her. Though Lance was a bit narcissistic I don’t believe he ever hurt her once they got married. Though they had couple spats. Lance was faithful to her once they got married.

One of the things I like about this movie it’s the absurdity of all of that. As a mean of satirical portrayal of American racial duality back in time. There’s a lot of deep meaning behind this if u ask me. The fact that everyone is ignoring they are very ugly, just because they supposedly have a certain status and are white rich girls (btw these two are totally based on Paris Hilton, that’s why they behave like that). Also the part in wich they are in the car and put a 50 Cent song that say the n word, and they are like u can’t say that, and they said yeah but nobody is watching us, so they all start to sing the song, for me is full of underlying meaning. And so on. There are many things in this movie that are good. And of course the camp bimbocore aesthetic that I just love!!!

As an African based in Nigeria, who only visits the USA occasionally, when I watch TP movies, I am always disheartened because his movies gives negative impressions about Black Americans. Listening to this now, I find out that he has only been feeding this negative stereotypes. Thank God there is a gradual shift and awakening about this. Looking forward to watching a truly Black American movie soon.

**GIGO-Garbage In, Garbage Out-Applies to Movies Too, Including Mea Culpa** First, let's address the concept of "Mea Culpa." Like every other film, it's crucial to understand that you won't always approve of every movie, whether the producers or directors are Black or white. Now, regarding "Mea Culpa," it had a strong plot that told a compelling story, revealing aspects of human character that might otherwise remain hidden. Personally, I didn't find anything distasteful about it. What Tyler Perry does that many people don’t understand is bring a fresh perspective that sets him apart from other producers and directors. I don't want to watch the same scenes rehashed in every movie-it’s plain and boring. Tyler’s films make you think. The truth is, everyone is broken in some way, but healing is possible. If you want a funny movie, watch a comedy. But Tyler Perry is doing just fine. His work is different, and in my opinion, it's far better than anything Spike Lee has ever put out. Please, don't put all producers in YOUR box. As a long-time Christian, I understand the GIGO principle: garbage in, garbage out. If you don’t like what you’re seeing, protect yourself. If there’s something good in the movie, take it and learn from it-don’t be the negative character. It’s a builder of your character if you truly understand the movie and think outside the box. There's absolutely nothing wrong with that. Tyler Perry, GREAT JOB! People are having that conversation-yes, the movie was deep. Can you see yourself in the film? How strong would you be? Where would your twists and turns be? Could you even survive it? Finally, not every movie is suitable for children, and that's a parental responsibility. Adults do adult things, and sometimes a twist is necessary to bring someone out of a difficult situation. What I dislike is how people criticize Tyler Perry, a Black man who has helped our community. Other producers are often just after your money. What are you really learning from their movies? Let’s also talk about some of these other films where the wigs were awful, the main ideas were tired, and the scenes were either boring, disgusting, or morally abusive. Come on, people!

I love martial arts. For years I said I wanted to be as great a martial artist as Bruce Lee. Does that mean I want to be Chinese? That Coretta thing was just a childish way to attack him further. I had the edifying misfortune of following this case very closely from beginning to end. Jonathan majors is guilty of being a cheater and a weird person, not of any physical abuse. There was a malignant partnership of his accuser, the cops, the prosecutor, the jury, the press, and sadly far too many black people, to destroy him. I was stunned at the level of communal effort especially by black people to tear him apart. We went from marching for George Floyd to taking the word of a prosecutor at face value. There is a deep deep pathology in the black community. I used to dislike black celebs who got the bag and distanced themselves from us, but I swear, if I was Majors and I ever made it again, I would buy the biggest castle on a cliff somewhere as far away from black people as possible and never look back.

Only black men make a mistake and get treated like this by their own people. It’s really unfortunate this is the case. We all make mistakes, we all have distractions, we all have an ego….but not everyone’s treated with such hate.

As someone who has been doing a 365 day Bible Reading plan, Dr. King and his experiences remind me of a lot of the stories featured in it. There is almost no one in that book that God used to do great things outside of Jesus that hadn’t had some sort of lapse in judgment. Some of them messed up so badly that they would get innocent people killed or hurt very badly and yet God still chose to use them. I’m not condoning doing things that would hurt people because that’s not good by any means. But if God has the ability to still use, forgive, and trust us to do great things because He sees us as fully dimensional human beings, then we should at least acknowledge that others are too. Nobody makes decisions out of thin air. There is context to even the most baffling ones. When we look at people just by the decisions they make then we are doing ourselves a disservice. We’ll say things like “I would never do that!” Or “That could never be me!” But one thing I’ve learned in my short 25 years on this Earth so far is that the moment you say things like that is the moment you probably opened the door for it to somehow happen to you. You really just need the right things to happen and you’ll be sitting along with the people you were just shaking your head at. We’re human and it’s okay to do great things AND still make mistakes. The mistakes you make only devalue you when you don’t learn from them and take the steps to do better. And doing better is not instantaneous. It takes time and probably even more mistakes to get where you are going. When we are able to stop putting people on pedestals and actually look at them as human beings, life and it’s disappointments are easier to handle. And we are able to still celebrate people, including ourselves, without the need to define each other by the mistakes the we’ve made.
