I lost a PA12 at Wasilla during the Christmas 2022 windstorm. I had 10k soft shackles and the straps with the rubber shock section you were talking about. Problem is in the winter that rubber section loses all its flex. The weld on my tie down loop on the wing failed and the plane flipped back and forth until I was able to get there and strap it down upside down. Complete loss. Now I use rope exclusively and wrap with enough lines to make Spider-Man envious. I’m also parked at a different airport that barely get any wind while all the other planes at PAWS, PAAQ, and PAMR are dancing in their tie downs lol.
Hey guys... I watched this about 6 mo ago... something that was playing in the background. First week January this year a square tail 172 project I'd been working on the last two years got totaled in a wind storm... Great video! Most important imo, check the tie down anchors in the ground... Ask yourself "what is my airplane actually tied to?"
I would recommend joining Southcentral Alaska Beekeepers Association. They have classes on ocassion and have several members who teach classes. sababeekeepers.com/
