We're a couple of ordinary people trying to build a self-sufficient homestead on a run-down old acreage in North Central Saskatchewan (zone 2b). Join us in learning as we go in: gardening, homemaking, cooking, preserving, home renovation, and miscellaneous crafting and construction projects.

Thanks so much for this, I’m planning to go off the grid and get my own land, and I probably will not have running water for a little while (or maybe indefinitely if I find out that it’s easier)
This is good information. The recent cold snap damaged a pipe in the floor and we had to turn the water off until we can afford to fix it without taking a loan.
We've lived off grid for almost 3 years now i think... No running water for winter or early spring. getting water for laundry and dishes has been a chore. No proper plumbing is available yet, as we are in middle of a 3yr reno on a 60ft, single wide trailer. dont ask me why we've takem this long... long... boring story. anyways we still dont have proper plumbing yet. just to the toilet and shower. managing time to boil water for dishes and sponge bathing has been aweful. I feel like its difficult to grasp at any kind of time management lately and Ive been living bedtime to bedtime...when I can sleep properly. my husband has a side business that tends to take up more of his time than actually renovating the house. we BOTH have time management issues... How do you and your family manage water boiling time?
The well diggers around here say they can’t get out to us for months is that normal ? They are digging wells for new homes but we don’t have water. Is this a normal thing or am I calling the wrong people
