My name is Matt Gilman and I am visually impaired. I lost my vision due to diabetes complications back in 2004. I went through 22 eye surgeries in a two year span. I almost gave up on hope of ever riding a bike again. Then I persevered and got back on my bike and now I’ve ride bicycle trials. I’m the only one in the world riding bicycle trials blind. i’m here putting out videos to show the world what is possible. There are no excuses for any kind of disability. I’ve been told so many times of all the things that I can’t do but I’m rarely told of all the things that I can do. I’m here to prove to everyone what you can do if you put your mind to it. My motto is vision is more than sight. if you can visualize something then you can do it.
I also hitchhike and wild camp I use echo location like a bat and the more people say that I can't do something because I am blind I say watch me it make more want to do it
Very amazing video well done and keep up the great work and I am fully blind and I am getting a folding bike and touring across europe with my partner no tandem bike just 2 single seat bikes
No I lost my vision at the age of 24 from complications due to diabetes. If you check my channel there is some documentary videos of how I lost my vision and how I got back on my bike.
Pardon the pun, because I know this isn't in your wheelhouse, but do you know anything about points of engagement on the Pinion drive? I ride trials, but I also ride a mountain bike with a Rohloff hub, and love it. I'm always wishing a day will come when a bike with multiple speeds and a real seat can be made into a cool hybrid trials/mountain bike.
No unfortunately I’m not sure about the Piñon Drive thing. I know the rolloff hubs are heavy and probably wouldn’t work well for Trials though. But I like your idea for a possible future for Trials.
You nailed it here. Extra interesting to me to see the inner workings of the DT Swiss hub because I’m the guy who almost killed himself pedal kicking that hub. 😉
Oh damn that sucks dude. Aaron told me that it was pretty bad right after it happened. Well don’t fear this new wheel build that I did for him. Much nicer and you shouldn’t have any of those issues again.
I love the DT swiss simplicity! But their engagement is lacking, even with the upgrade. My new favorite Hub’s are onyx, and there is absolutely no better engagement than those. Love the video, Keep it up!
Yeah onyx hubs are pretty awesome. I was sponsored by stealth hubs a few years back which is essentially the exact same thing as onyx. Infinite engagement with no slip ever. They were really nice but heavy. I still have two sets on bikes currently.
No they are not tubeless. Running an innertube with very low tire pressure. Sidewalls on the tire are very robust to prevent pinch flats. As a plus I’m very nimble and light on my bike. It’s a skill acquired over the years of riding
