Hi Tim. I bought mine with 150,000 miles on it. I have been very satisfied with the car and now I have about 190,000. You can't beat it for those long road trips; there is nothing like it. Sorry you had so many issues.
Had the exact same problem on my LS 460. I was able burn holes in both plastic using the metal in a twist tie wire- make sure it's red hot; and then used the same wire to hold them together like you did but with coils on both ends, then reassembled. Works like new. Thanks!
Thank you for posting this helpful video. I have a 2015 Lexus LS 460L with the same issue you had. I'll try to do exactly what you did, and hopefully, it would have me $600+ for this part.
I just recently purchased a 2012 LS 460 with 122000 miles and now after 3 months of ownership my trunk lid is no longer opening no matter which button I push, I think the latch motor has failed, so I'm go glad I bought an extended warranty and only will be out of pocket for $100 deductible... Let them fix it...😆
I received a question from Eric Sanichar about the type of wire are used. It is somewhere between 21 and 23 thousandths diameter, steel, malleable (bends without breaking). By the way, the latch is still working :-)

Great explanation and a lot of help. Not skilled enough to drill and wire, however a split keyring from a keychain worked to hold the outer plastic piece in tension. Thanks for describing the problem and the fix. Getting the trunk liner out was another story... No one has a video for that.
Hello E. You will need to put a piece of rod in the tapped hole in the engine shaft so the new bolt in your newly tapped hole will have something to push against, without the rod you would be pushing against the threaded hole in the engine shaft and damage those threads. Good luck my friend.
I did this now I installed it back fixed in the trunk lid and the trunk lid dose not grab the latch, how do I short the battery or do you mean disconnect the car battery then reconnect and then it should work, thanks.
High Meekboy. My 2011LS doesn’t have a key lock for unlocking the trunk. I guess they figured since the electronica lock would never fail you didn’t need a key lock ha ha
Faced with the same problem, I changed the lock twice, and the price was highI found a solution to a problem. I left a car trunk ls460 open manually with the car key
