In the early 80's both bulbs went out on a tower. I was one of 3 lead techs. It was so cold we did not send anyone out. About a 20 below with a strong wind. 60 below wind chill or some crazy Temp. But it came down the pipe that we had 24 hr. to replace the bulbs. The 3 of us were told our job for the day was to replace both bulbs. We drove to bottom of the tower drew straws and I lost. It was the coldest job I every did. At the top of the tower the wind was wicked. It felt like I had no clothes on it just ripped right thru all my layers. We free climbed back then. No safety climb.
how tf that tower 2000ft gawd damn and also by the time i get to like 300 feet screw the clip if i'm gonna fall it pain less just saying (am i suicidal?)
I still say a company with a Robinson R44 or nicely restored Bell 47 could trailer the helicopter to the tower and a pilot could then sling load the tower worker and the parts in place in a very short period of time and the tower guy would be completely rested and ready to go, I see them moving high line workers into place like that all the time
NOPE, there is no way I could ever. I took a 30' fall and broke my hip and tore all kinds of things up.... ever since that day I can't even attempt stuff like that vision blurs hands shaking on top of a full-blown anxiety attack. I had to have a career change. mad props to you.
