Sorry for the delayed response it’s been on my list for a month. Ironically I was in the process of painting a new one thanks to ICBC and a deer. Dude these bumpers rock!!!! I can’t wait to get the high clearence rear and bike rack
@@triggerbackcountryadventures thank you for the response, I appreciate it. Still deciding on this or a move bumper. At one point I was looking at an ironbull bumper but recently they have turned off their comments on RU-vid and their reviews have gotten worse. So coastal offroad or move is my next option. My biggest issue at this moment is I don't know how to weld and I don't have the equipment either. So I need to figure out cost before I drop some money on a new set of bumpers.
It’s super easy with a Warn winch. You can do it through the access hole in the bumper as designed, or just reach around if you don’t get the skid plate. I would highly recommend getting the skid plate. The one struggle I had with the bumper is, because you build it on the truck without the winch on. It’s possible to build it too tight, I got lucky and was able to unbolt the coolant reservoir to get the bumper on with the winch.
One of the tips I saw for the gas struts was using PEX or PVC cut to length and then slit to clip around the rod…it’s not a “replacement” for correct struts but a tool to prevent the top from coming down in the cold…with added snow…etc.
Because I’ve always run a diesel heater I have had no issues with condensation. In fact, I was able to live out of it for 2 wet weeks of snow in whistler while on course. Dried all gear. The thing to remember is, the GFC is a tent, so just like a ground tent in the winter…you’re going to have condensation :D Take the bad about GFC with a grain of salt 🤙 this thing rocks!
@@triggerbackcountryadventures it's just right for everything I do at this point. I keep designing gadgets for it and GFC has been awesome with support!! I asked for a small section of the t-slot to do pull tests and they sent me two 45" long sections of the frame assembly.
Currently I have it set up in a ‘Transit’ case. Essentially a big metal box with the fuel tank inside. I have a false tailgate made out of plywood and I pipe it in that way. When I reconfigure the platform bed, I’ll permanently install a a Petrol air heater since my rig is gasoline.
No problems. The edge of the tent gets a bit wet, but no pooling. A little bit of water makes its way in sometimes during washing, but non of it is a problem or a game changer.
Totally! If you go on the GoFast forum there’s another fellow that has a much slicker working covers. Search for ‘Frozen Latches’. These ones have worked GREAT! Doesn’t solve the fact that GFC should consider using the bigger Southco latch C5 that you can get a cover for.
I've been looking into these but curious as to how the winch mounts up? Is there a hidden winch plate or does it simply bolt to the inside of the bumper face?
There’s a plate behind that supports it; but it also bolts on through the fairlead onto the bumper. It’s gussetted as well for additional strength on the back side. I would hazard to guess you’d pull the bumper off the truck before you pulled the front plate off.
Honestly, no, I would’ve never considered the Alu Cab. I’ve had a few moments of frustration with the GFC, but now a year into owning it. Every time I use it I feel it was the best investment I’ve made since buying a house. The next move for me right now is to learn to weld and I’m going to build my own wedge camper but full integrated on a truck.
@@triggerbackcountryadventures Thanks for the reply. I have the weld pak 100 and want to get the Mig conversion to weld up a Costal Off-road bumper, but I was concerned the welder couldn’t handle 3/16 steel. Any tips or or welder setting would be much appreciated.
Yeah, I was mad; but there was nothing I could do about it except move on and communicate with GFC. They were amazing and got me all sorted out in the end. Despite this hiccup this has been my best investment every!
The customer service stepped up, but the cost of fuel and time to travel to MT vs. having them ship you a replacement and then file an insurance claim with the carrier would have made more sense.
Because I had arranged my own freight, my insurance was actually denied. So, I can be nothing but grateful for GFC and their offer. I did get the camper home repaired to be useable, but they offered to replace it and I couldn't turn that down.
Hey Christopher, they did. It was definitely a learning opportunity for all of us involved. In the end, I got a new camper. So to say the least, GFC’s customer support is top notch. It’s a tough pill for all of us to swallow, but it wasn’t long before I was back to camping. Cheers
Do it!!! Six months later and I’m even more stoked about this setup than I was when I picked it up. It just gets better 🤘 Hopefully be down in the koots next season. Cheers
Nice! My buddy is going to order one of these for his Lexus GX and I’m going to weld it up for him. This was very helpful. I was wondering about warpage and was thinking I would need to alternate stitch welds to keep it from getting too hot. Great job! It looks great
Yeah, That’s the key, is to alternate. I totally forgot about that because there’s so much to remember when you’re trying to get it done in a day. The other thing is to double check your wing placement on both sides. One ended up being about 1/8th or so further back than the other. Super happy with how it turned out! Thanks for the compliments. Cheers WG
Hi! I am sincerely about to order one of these from them to Canada! Is is worth it ? Do you love it so far ? Despite the way it came shipped and all the extra shipping costs involved ?
It is totally worth it!! This thing has been a game changer for me. This was a learning experience for both me and GFC; you’ll be happy to know that they no longer allow shipping without the crate. So it is expensive, but I think they’re working on it. Depending on where you are, it is totally worth the drive down to Montana to get it right from them though. Reach out to the team and they’ll get you sorted…I am absolutely in love with my set up as is my young family :D. Cheers WG
I’m really fortunate, they are replacing the camper since they don’t want this one out and about. So I’m going to pick it up in a few days (Nov 18th install), not taking another risk with shipping since the border is finally open to Canadians.
Tell you what it's not GFC's fault, when it left GFC it was in perfect condition, whoever the shipping company is at fault, it probably went to 4 hubs before delivery, I worked at various shipping companies by the time it reached 3rd or 4th hub it was toasted
Thanks! I’m using a cheap diesel heater from Amazon. It works great! As for your comment on the other vid, GFC now won’t allow shipping without crating the unit. They are replacing the whole camper. Going down to get the new one on Nov 15th. They’ve recently partnered with a shop in Calgary to do white glove installs. I would highly recommend getting one regardless of the headache I went through. It’s a game changer and with the border opening going down to get it yourself will be much easier.
@@triggerbackcountryadventures I actually reached out to GFC yesterday and they said they can crate it up to me estimated around $2k- $2.5k which includes the crate cost. I didn't realize that you didn't get it crated. They also mentioned the shop in Calgary, which I will differently drop by and get the camper installed. I'm glad they are replacing the whole camper for you. I was looking at getting the Webasto diesel heater, so looks like those heaters do the trick. Well look forward to more build videos, and I will be doing some as well when I get my Tacoma.
@@craftbuildchill Yeah with freight it would be exactly what you mentioned, but it does fluctuate. Check out I believe it’s John McC 47 video’s on here for how to set it up. He does a great job explaining everything. I also built my roof racks using 1020 extrusion from RMMC in Abbotsford 3 bars and brackets for the price of one GFC beef bar www.rmmc.net/8020/.
Hey.. we also got a gfc camper delivered to toronto, Canada.. check out the video. Our only issue was they forgot the 2 large windows. Otherwise, very expensive shipping costs but no damage to the product.
Yeah looks like you had your unit crated. That’s the ticket, but it doubles the shipping weight. GFC has told me they will no longer allow customers to not have the units crated after this situation. But…They have come through in a big way and are replacing the camper with a new one 🙌. Hope you all enjoy your camper! It is a game changer that’s for certain. So did they send you replacement panels with the windows?
@@triggerbackcountryadventures no, it's the 2 big tent size windows. They offered to replace them when we go down to Montana.. but also, they are apparently building a location in Calgary!
hooooo man i feel your pain from here...its really an expensive purchase in Canadian dollar...what maybe 12 000 CAD$$??....and you got it this way wow...can you do something about the poor shippement compagny??
You bet, I’m still waiting to hear back from GFC on cost of replacement parts, or what they want to do. As for the shipment company I have submitted a claim we’ll see where it lands.
Did this trip on July5/77. Small island from where you set off at Hobson lake has a sign. By land....July 05/77. A lot of devils club. Have some pictures of a stand of cedars we found, about 25' in diameter.
Awesome! Good luck, let us know how it went. That was our original plan, have a blast and have a drink on Hobson for me. My absolute favourite place in the world. I don't know if we were tough or just stubborn.
We're leaving tomorrow on this trip - thanks guys for laying out the route, you've made it much easier for us. No portaging for us though, we're not that tough!! We have 3 sets of vessels and 2 groups going in opposite directions....we took the easy way out!
i must say...well done!..well written and narrated...the soundtrack is dynamic and sets the tone nicelly for the theme...the footage is on time...perfect dose of everything...great vid...way to rub shoulders with insanity to feel sane...lol...what a trip i can only imagine...thanks for sharing such great success...you guys kick ass!
That is awesome! Great video. We've been looking at this trip for about 6 or 7 years now. Didn't look like Lickskillet creek was much to cross? I better man up and make this happen since you guys have laid it out for me! We will have the ladies with cold beer and steaks on the deck in Likely!
This was really great to watch you guys!!! Really wonderful documentation/filming!! I lived in Likely for years in the mid-70's to late 80's. Three of us in two canoes explored almost the entire Quesnel Lake and hiked into Hobson Lake to explore further and we found Jack Smith's freighter canoe so we 'borrowed' Jack's canoe which saved us the portage the Hobson trail from Quesnel Lake...bonus! Later on, Jack and I partnered up and had 2 children. Anyways, at that time, the trail was always 'groomed' by many of us. I walked this trail with Jack, a horse for packing a chain saw and other gear and personally cut many trees off the path while 4 months pregnant. Great times... Love Hobson Lake as the color is so beautiful and soothing! Thanks for this sharing by Nicole! p.s. I am happy this was accomplished before the disastorous tailings pond breech on Quesnel Lake! May memories of our adventures be a beautiful reminder of the stunning beauty and awesomeness of this wilderness! :)
Sorry everyone, made the mistake of doing some of RU-vids 'Enhancements' and it seems to have messed up my graphics. I may end up having to re-load the video if I can't find a solution. Not too keen on the shaky graphics!
