Great discussion, gents. That was an interesting point from Dr. Adolph of this movie being the west coast counterpart to "Do The Right Thing". This movie is so 90s in the best ways - from the fashion, soundtrack, and portrayal of how people related to one and other. It was ahead of its time covering certain issues that, tragically, still make the movie relevant today. According to this movie's editor, Bruce Cannon, the first cut of this movie is 3hrs/30-something minutes. He had mentioned this in a panel discussion at a retrospective event for the movie held at USC a few years ago. Link to panel discussion: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ZIjVLIFjmVA.html There's a podcast called "The Ringer" that also discussed this movie, and according a guest named Micah Peters, there's an interview of John Singleton where he states that much of what was shot of this film didn't make the final cut, and the bulk of what was cut involved Jennifer Connelly's character. So, where I'm going with all of this is that if anyone found Kristen to be the least developed character among the three freshmen and were puzzled by Connelly's barely there appearance, this would explain why. Lastly, the weird Taryn/Wayne and Kristen sex scene is limited to the more prudish American audience. In the international cut of this movie, Taryn and Kristen are actually shown getting down with each other. Lol: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-dCDw14_gOdY.html Peace, y'all.
@@Lv99Slacker WOW! Thanks for the support and the amazing comment. We try our best to cover as much as possible and our guest Dr. JL was so great. Can we send you a digital art print of a quote from this ep? Send your email and we’ll send to you
This is one of those albums that just transports you! Thanks for the comment and hope you enjoyed the episode! Is there anything you'd like us to put to the Nostalgia Test?
Thanks for having us, gents! I do really wish there was more bouncer-ness in the movie. Gyllenhaal isn't even a bouncer! He's just muscle with PTSD. They didn't do any of the Bouncer Rules from the original, which we missed for sure.
Dookie was the 2nd CD I ever owned (4th or 5th grade), only proceeded by Nirvana MTV Unplugged. Still have both working just fine despite incessant use for years
It's a great album! Thanks for watching and the support!!!! Help us out by sharing the podcast, and screenshot your ratings, review, and share so we can shout you out on the next episode!
You've caused me to analyze the lyrics in ways I never have since I wrote "Grandma." I realize now that verse one is based on a memory of my grandmother in later years, when she was widowed, while verse two is based on earlier memories, when my grandfather and his card-playing brothers were still alive.
Thank you for listening and knowing this was all in good fun! You're a good sport, and we'd love to, if you want, have you on the podcast. Contact us at thenostalgiatest@gmail.com
How about Hollywood stop with remakes altogether. They have no imagination. And it's extremely rare that the remake is any good. Give me one hour with a Hollywood movie executive and I could fill his ear with enough suggestions to make a decades worth of movies.
Screwball comedy??? Nah. This movie makes no sense. Wenhave to be able to say something is ridic when it is. Nostalgia doesn't means it stays good. Sorry but not sorry.
@@thenostalgiatest Well I think the point of it is that it DOSENT make sense. I don’t even think it’s trying to. It’s deliberately nonsensical. I mean it’s got Scooby Doo endings…your dinging a crazy movie for not making sense. It’s style is the very reason it had a huge following.
In Rocky 1, he's on the cast list as APOLLO'S TRAINER, Rocky 2 he's on the cast list as APOLLO'S TRAINER (still no name), and then finally on the cast list for Rocky 3 he's there as DUKE. You can check IMDB. He never had a name until 3 and they were calling him by his real name for 2 movies.
@@thenostalgiatest Listen bud. With all due respect and remember I’m saying with all due respect but… Fuck IMDB…I grew up on Rocky movies. I’m like one of those weird Star Wars fans who know the name of every background character….except with Rocky. “Tony "Duke" Evers (born 27th May 1938; died 25th February 2016) was an American former professional boxer, former owner of the Delphi Boxing Academy and boxing trainer. He is the supporting character in Rocky, Rocky II, Rocky III and Rocky Balboa, the deuteragonist in Rocky IV, and minor character in Rocky V.” Duke is his nickname.
@@gzz8551 You know it's not that serious, right? But, don't you think the Tony part was added because there's no explanation as to why they went from calling him Tony only in 1 and 2, and then from 3 on they call him Duke. The fact is, Tony Burton was amazing.
@@thenostalgiatest Yeah I’m being slightly over-serious for comedic effect. 😁 I think you’re just about right. I think the first time last he was called Tony was probably a mistake then they decided to keep it. Duke really comes into his own in Rocky IV.
Great podcast, thank you guys for introducing Mitch Hedberg to my brother Jono and I. Loved (at a heavy metal concert intro), "How many of you people feel like human beings tonight? And then he said how many of you people feel like animals? And the thing is everyone cheered after the animals part, but I cheered after the human beings part, because I did not know there was a second part to the question." A fun podcast!
