Hi, no I don’t have any social media accounts longer. Life is unpredictable and sometimes makes it impossible to find the time … I still tie thousands of flies for my own fishing and my passion is intact! I am on the tying table almost every day like before… If you have a question just ask me:)
Hi Fabien, After two years I see that you are showing a nice series from the RAT. In the comments below I read that you use the Partridge Patriot hook for the Blue Rat. I have a curious question about this. What hook size do you use for this? I am very grateful for your response.
Hi, mostly this are tied in 4 or 6 for display and sometime 2. But when it’s for my own fishing, I use to tie them smaller, like 8 or 10. Don’t forget that not only the size of the hook is important but the amount of materials you take on it. Clear weather and water, less materials… I hope I could help you, if not let me know;)
@@1973fafo I suggest, that you try my way, next time you tie a fly - very well I'll add. Not that you will save many seconds resulting in many more flies over a life time, but once I had learned to do "work time studies" where we figured out, how much a company could earn more, by moving the tools, so the worker didn't have to reach as far after them aso, I haven't been good at wasting time, without thinking over it.. A bit nerdy, I know.. :D I'm also pretty good at it (never learned those wings though - hard to learn from books alone, and I didn't have access to the internet or anyone who tied, when I still tied) and I watch videos "just" as meditation now.
Thank you very much! Yes this one is very sparse! If you want to help the wings to be more strong and that they are more in place, you can take some hair under the feather 👍
You've inspired me to tie the Rat series. Your pictures are beautiful but can you give me a source for the recipe of materials for each? Thank you greatly.
Thank you so much for the kind words. I really appreciate that! In the book called “ the complete illustrated directory of salmon flies” you will find the recepite of those flies. You can also send me a message on messenger and we take it from there👍
I find it interesting that several flies in the series don't contain what I feel differentiate the Rats from other streamers, namely the sword tail, herl 1/2 body, and floss underwing. Just my opinion. I'm going to tie the group with only rear body segment, tinsel, and a few hackle changes to stay more "Ratty". Ha Ha!
I have the Petitjean Master and the Stonfo Transformer.... the Stonfo is a nicer vice to use, but I love the function of the Petitjean where you can clamp to the table and angle the vice towards you.... now if stonfo could make an attachment that did that, the Transformer would be unrivalled, IMO.
Yes Stonfo Tranformer is the best vice in the marked! Due some health and private issue I have stopped my collaboration with almost all the brands. Take contact with themes with an email or a dm in Instagram, Stonfo is a very serious brand with fantastic people and I am sure that you will receive an answer. I know from before that they have one that you can combine and clamp to the table. I don’t have my Instagram account or Facebook longer, ( I can’t do that for you) so you just need to send a DM to their account on Instagram. Great that you like the Stonfo, I have tied many thousands of flies with and after several years it work like the first day:) I hope this help you!
Thank you very much for the compliment!!! The head of all my salmon flies and wet flies are done with one time superglue like zap a gap and after that four or five times head cement. This is a very old fashion to do it but a very durable and hard way to do it. Now that days people often use uv-glue and…. but this is not good. Take a bit of time to do it but again you will use the flies longer👍👊
Hi Lucas, due health and private issues I had no time to take pictures and take care of my social media account. Fly tying and fly fishing is my passion and I will begin soon again to share my work;)
