Here we share resources that will help you in your homeschooling and encourage you in your biblical parenting so that you can make the most of the little moments. I do not have all the answers but I am happy to share with you what has worked for my family. I post NEW videos EVERY WEDNESDAY and SATURDAY so be sure to subscribe so you don't miss out.
My name is Katie and I am a wife and home school mom of 6 kids who range from 15 years to 7. Life is crazy at my house but one thing I have learned in my time as a wife and mother is that the meaningful events in life happen in the mundane moments.
On this channel you will find videos on curriculum reviews, homeschool resource videos, book hauls, how to homeschool, special needs homeschooling and more.
Question for you!!! I am keeping my niece and homeschooling her. This is a new change and she doesn't know the Bible AT all. She is attending church with us now , but it is a brand new thing. She is in 5th grade, but more on a 3rd grade level. Do you have any recommendations on where I should start and with what curriculum for Bible? Thanks!!
We have kids close in age then a big gap!!! My younger kids love our morning time that isn’t for them!!! We do family work mainly for my older kids and bring in my younger kids with age appropriate activities!!! We love our co op and we are the hosts and we have teachers come into our home!!! We use classes as well as me teaching my kids!!! I use different times and their morning basket is a evening basket!!! We love audiobooks and my younger kids love them as they say it’s reading when they didn’t read yet!!! I send plans to my older kids and they put them into their planer how they want and wen I see their planner I’m impressed with their work!!! We don’t have quiet time but I think my teenagers watch movies after school!!! My older kids have watched me and asked if they can do it!!! We love technology when used wisely!!!
What a great review! I was also surprised that so many universities used Canvas for online courses. It is so much easier to navigate than the typical blackboard used by some online courses (and universities). Thanks for sharing! ~Misty
How long are the lessons? Also, would love to hear how you will be doing dual enrollment? With my son’s learning challenges, I didn’t think I would/could be able to do it.
I am glad you are liking the physical science. That is next for us, we are currently doing the general science and love it! We got the classes on the thumb drive. Are the self pace classes the same as what you can get on the thumb drives?
So the thumb drive includes all the videos that are included in the self paced course. But I do believe their are differences between the two, I will look into it and get back to you on what the exact differences are.
Okay so I double-checked the Self-paced courses include the digital textbook, audiobook, video lessons and experiments (same as thumb drive videos), and AutoGrade+ assessments.
Do you think it would work for a hyperlexic (so he's read entire science encyclopedias) 5th grader? My current 4th grader is board with the TGAB science and other elementary aged curriculum looks similarly "not enough". We're not science people so I can't supplement as easily as I could say History. I am old enough to remember when Apologia was just binder clipped copy of Biology mailed by Dr. Wylie himself. 😂
I love that is good for learning issues!!! As classical homeschoolers we cycle thru information when needed!!! I love that it’s using different learning styles!!! We use student journals this year and science nest notebooks!!! We are using their elementary curriculum alongside guest hollow this year as a health course!!! I’m making up using these curriculums and other resources!!! I love the idea of using their self paced curriculum afterwards especially for my science heavy kiddo!!! I’m teaching lab reports this year!!! I probably don’t break it down and my older daughter probably will need to write lab reports!!! My kids use that platform as well!!!
Looks like they've made some improvements that will make their curriculum much more accessible to a wide variety of students. Really glad to see that. My two daughters completed the Biology course last year and we all hated it. It was so wordy and drilled any love for science almost completely out of them. We scaled back to Physical Science this year and it's been much better. Wish we had taken the course you've described here, but maybe next year. ❤
Yes! I was getting all worried about the cost to laminate lol. I'll take this route instead. And did you end up using those loose leaf pages in the kid binder? Would a mini dry erase board be just as good or are we supposed to keep track of words on paper?
It sounds like TT is good and now we have boys who may find online math doable we may end up using it!!! My high school kids are taking high school slower so they can cope with their school schedules!!! I love that it can be placed on hold especially as the kids that may use TT are athletes so they school around their sports schedules!!!
I am seriously considering trying this! Thank you for this video. Do you know if they have curriculum that people can purchase available? Like Grammar Galaxy, Teaching Textbooks etc?
Im not sure what you mean by curriculum to purchase? Do you mean actually buying the curriculum or do you mean buying curriculum lesson plans that are already done?
@@LifeintheMundane Lessons plans already done. Sorry I should have been more clear. I actually took the plunge and signed up for the trial. They only had Teaching Textbooks so I'll have to input everything else myself.
I am very interested in teaching textbooks. Right now my kids are younger but I think TT starts at 3rd grade so I'm totally looking forward to switching to TT when we're ready. I am not a math minded person and this would take one thing off my plate which I need. Can't wait.
This is a fantastic question, we haven't gotten to that point in high school math yet but I know these are things they address as a protractor is one of the required tools for geometry. So since I have not done that level yet I actually sent this question off to Teaching Textbook and will let you know as soon as I hear back from them on exactly how they do this.
Okay here is TT answer TT uses these same tools in its Geometry course. The student uses them while working out his answers on paper. With TT, answers are entered into the computer for grading, but that certainly does not mean that nothing is done on paper. In fact, most math problems need to be worked out on paper first. TT also sells print textbooks for parents who like its content--its style of teaching, organization of topics, etc.--but prefer not to use a digital curriculum.
When homeschooling with an infant I did a lot of baby wearing or having the infant in the stroller and wheeled them around as I did school with the older kids.
Thank you so much for these videos! I wanted to ask, as a Bible focused Christian, how has the content of the Readers been for your children ? We don’t like magic, witches, monsters, pirates, unicorns or disrespectful language. Have you seen any of these within the readers ? Also, after years of using this program and reusing it, do you think laminating any of the student pages is necessary ? Thanks so much!!
Great questions 1) As far as content in the books there are around 100 stories all together between the four levels and while I have gone through them all multiple times I do not remember every single one. But from what I know all of them are very wholesome, offer lots of diversity, always exemplifies positive character traits and corrects anything that may not be positive behavior. There is no disrespectful language, witches, magic, or unicorns. I do believe there is one pirate story in the 4th level but if you prefer to skip it you could. I will say if you buy your readers through All About Reading (vs used) you can return the material anytime within the first year so if you wanted to take a look at the readers to ensure the content meets your families convictions you can and could always return it if not. 2) I just put the student pages in sleeve protectors and don't see a need for laminating.
We are relaxed homeschoolers and my adopted teenagers love it as they are new to our homeschool schedules!!! We adopted them this year!!! I send my teenagers checklists for their independent work!!! The 2 teenage boys we adopted that are athletes in our sports community need reading lessons so I make it more age appropriate and we all love the ordinary parents guide to teaching reading as it can be used for older kids!!! I love that it’s got a lot of instruction but is age appropriate for all ages!!! Because The workers in the home have a flexible schedule we can homeschool any day as my husband works for the same community!!! I touch base with my kids in classes and their teachers!!! I often do this on our daily surf with my kids!!!
