There are 47 mills currently operating throughout Britain, the largest is in Kent. Initially Croxley production was transferred to other mills in the locality but all but Frogmore have now closed.
I live near HS1 and remember the complaints about the build back then. All the same arguments! Surely the canals caused so called devastation when they were built.
Moved away from the area seven years ago and this was one of my favourite canal side walks . Apart from the HS2 , nothing seems to have changed that much which is nice to see .
Oh dear what destruction!!!! Not living in the area or visiting for the last 26 years I was unaware of the havoc caused by HS2 in this area so it came as a shock and is very upsetting.
Just found your channel. Thanks for posting. I used to live in Watford so this part of the GU is my old stomping ground from a very young age for 40 years. Brought back many memories.
I bet it was beautiful in it's day, it would be nice if it could all be restored and open to boats, great filming and photo's, and the story made it a very interesting watch, thanks.
I grew up in Rothersthorpe and know this area from Gayton Arm down to the Banbury Lane bridge like the back of my hand. In the late Sixties, I and a gang of village lads used to play a game of jumping onto the higher drawbridge as late as we dare as it to rose to its upward position, until the day one of us fell into the cut and nearly drowned. Obviously unperturbed by this total lack of health and safety, in winter we'd play ice hockey on the frozen canal and in summer would see who dare climb the highest elm trees in the neighbourhood....
