Roland and I jammed together and became friends back in the 1970s. I moved, and we drifted apart. I was heartened to see this video online. I realize he kept on growing his art, keeping true to his soul. I have done the same and now reside in Nashville where I play in three bands.
sometimes the greats never get the due they rightly deserve, that was roland, he should have been up there with the greats but the world was not ready for someone as amazing as him, it was truly our loss.
There's something really unique about Roland's music that is entirely its own. For some reason it always makes me wonder, how many people out there in this era had neat little self-financed hobby-level musical projects that really warranted a wider acclaim? That might easily get lost to time?
I met Roland through a mutual friend, seems like 1000 years ago but it was probably 84 or 85. His work reminds me of Todd Rundgren. He was talented; he was funny, and he recorded our band and did a great job. I knew he was working on something at the time but not really sure if it was this track or something else.
I would feel bad at this, but we all know Eric was one of the most self-centered, selfish people ever. Everything he did was to benefit himself and rarely ever said thank you. He was a total ingrate who would do the least amount possible for anyone. All he ever wanted was handouts and expected the world to give into his every little whim. His calls were funny, but only because he was deluded and weird.
