Imagine being a fan of a team in the same division as Patrick Mahomes then looking at AOC or Bo Nix. Ouch! (You don't _have to_ imagine, eh)? 🤭 Okay: people cheer on their teams. They become Emotionally Invested In the teams & their most identifiable rep is always gonna be the punter. Sorry, I meant QB. So when people hang their hopes onto them, in people's minds the person Becomes The Hope. & they are Very Reluctant to assign High Status to someone who may fail them. & what you have with Purdy is some uncertainty. The part of the brain that yearns to hang their hopes on such things isn't the rational, thinking part of our minds. It's reactive & immature & doesn't do nuance. So you can analyze him all you want. But the VAST majority of people are gonna still think that Tom Brady & Only Tom Brady wins Super-Bowl rings All By Himself without anyone's help. People ain't logical.

Niiice touch at the end: "Swifties won the Super-Bowl in their first season." As for the refs hating on Justin Fields well the sabotaging of his career _is looking_ like a bit more than what even his own team could do without help. Do you remember when Lamar was trying to get traded? About 8 teams released public statements saying they would Not Talk to him. Before even being asked. That doesn't scream of league-wide collusion to anyone? It's similar with Fields only with the fans for some reason contributing more to perpetuating all the false narratives surrounding him. "He can't read defenses." Well, no one less than Brett Kollmann himself debunked that myth before Fields even took a snap in the NFL ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-QuhUbISnr8s.html with stats as well as footage. "They had to simplify the offense for him." This was in response to those weird plays the Bears called where they told Fields in advance not to pass to certain receivers on certain plays. Not even if they got open. Not even if they were the _only receiver_ that got open.This was the idiotic response to what the fans knew was the result of play-calling, because if it wasn't, why wasn't Fields taken into concussion protocol immediately upon acting concussed? Can you imagine Joe Burrow seeing an open receiver, not throwing to them & the Bengals thinking "oh, that's just normal?" Bengals fans would follow Zac Taylor HOME asking for him to explain himself. The Bears (well, Eberflus anyway) continued calling that play that killed every drive it was used on for a Full Year. The thing is if _I_ know all this, how come not a single NFL coach or GM does? For a few minutes, not because I believed Ryan Poles' self-serving lie that he gave Fields the choice of where he got traded to I thought that the Bears simply refused to trade him to their division rivals the Vikings. Even if you believed that Fields was struggling, on his Worst Day he's better than Sam Darnold on his best. & there was No Guarantee they'd be able to get a QB on draft day. So why didn't _anyone else_ trade for him? The Giants, Browns & Vikings become Immediate Contenders with him. So I wonder if there isn't a league-wide moratorium on giving him a fair chance that the refs are part of.

Okay, I *like what you're doing overall* but I have to try to put a stop to stuff like this every time I see it: QB play is _not_ the only determining factor in anything. Not even in QB play. When Randy Moss came to the Patriots he caught 23 TDs. You know how many that was over Brady's previous high? 22! With Jerry Rice, Joe Montana, Steve Young & a 39-year-old Rich Gannon won MVP awards. Young was a complete bust in TB, Gannon was never anywhere _near_ the discussion before. The Packers' '22 highlights featured weeks of receivers dropping passes that Rodgers may as well have teleported into their Right Lungs they were so accurate. You're making it sound like Young is responsible for all the misery in CAR. "The Texans got Stroud, making Tepper's Decision look worse." Are you saying the Texans & Panthers have identical rosters & coaches/play-callers except for the QB? Imagine being Bryce Young or a member of his family & watching this video. You're trashing Young for circumstances beyond his control! Someone did a video isolating what Stroud & Young did before play-calling or the lack of on-field talent affected them. Turns out that down to footwork & which way they turn to fake hand-offs these are clones of each other. So _PLEASE_ learn to distinguish between what is & isn't a player's fault, play-calling or on-field talent. I mean look at Fields: a back-up for no other reason than people refuse to distinguish between what the results on the field were, play-calling & play-calling. That double is intended. You mentioned that they got better toward the end of the season. Yeah, when Eberflus (who _has admitted_ that He Decides what plays to limit the offense to in post-game press talks) was busy acclimating Montez Sweat & the new DC to the team, Getsy got to call plays without his interference. & that's when the offensive surge happened. The plays used in it were the same as the ones used in '22 that made the Bears the #1 offense 3 weeks straight in the NFL. So with the same roster, Getsy produced the #1 offense, Eberflus made them on par with the Patriots. This is 100% due strictly to play-calling then, right? All 7 or 8 games Getsy was in control were better than all26 or 27 when Eberflus meddled in it. So again, *please* be a little less casual about where you assign blame. Because Fields was & still is better than Caleb Williams ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-5JO1PsupF_U.html & may never get a chance to start in the NFL again all because NFL coaches & GMs are no less prone to blaming QBs for their teams' performances, & as Matt Canada's firing showed us, they are aware what the fans are saying.

I appreciate your arguments. As far as the panthers go, that segment wasn't supposed to be a dunk on Bryce Young segment. It was to call out David Tepper for being a terrible owner. I absolutely agree with you that Bryce had zero help last season. The reason why I mentioned Stroud vs Young were the reports of the coaching staff wanting Stroud and Tepper over ruling. I absolutely do not think the Panthers would be a playoff team with Stroud. I was intending to take shots at the owner, not the first overall qb who has no coaches, no wide outs, or offensive line to block for him. I think Bryce can be good, the Panthers just need pieces and a culture around him, and they won't get either until Tepper shapes up.

@@SecondStringHammer That's alright. I think that Young just keeps getting hit in the backwash from that splash all the time & even dismissing it as unintentional also feels like part of the problem. This doesn't need to be here. If y'ever wanna do a "undeserved media hate" piece for Justin Fields like you did for Brock Purdy though, hey, it's the off-season & if Fields gets to start & proves the haters wrong you'll look REALLY prescient. This is the guy who with the right play-calling made the Bears the #1 offense for 3 weeks straight in '22 _BEFORE_ they acquired DJ Moore. & when it was done fans just said "he didn't win any of those games." He out-did Rodgers, Mahomes, Josh Allen & Joe Burrow's Élite WR trio with *that* o-line, with _that_ receiving corps led by two guys who couldn't catch passes that Landed On Them, basically did it all himself & received hate for it & like with Purdy, that's not even all. @@SecondStringHammer I live in Western Washington, so I am a Seahawks fan. However, there are other teams that I like and teams that I don't like. The Broncos are one of the teams I like. That goes back to the days of John Elway and the Orange Crush. I really wish Russell Wilson had done well in Denver. If Seahawk fans seem to have an attitude, it's because they do. For the first thirty years of their existence, any time the Seahawks made it to the playoffs, they were dismissed as not deserving to be in the playoffs because they weren't champions like the Cowboys or the Steelers. So Seahawk fans developed an attitude. The Seahawks are our team and our players, and we really don't care what you think. Then the Seahawks made it to the Super Bowl. Was anyone asking if the Seahawks could win their first Super Bowl? No. All anyone wanted to know was if Jerome Bettis would finally get his Super Bowl ring. Cuz the only thing that matters is the happiness of Jerome effing Bettis. The Super Bowl arrived, and the Seahawks got hit with three penalties for nonexistent fouls. The first called back a play that should have resulted in a touchdown; the second called back a play that was to about the 3 yard line; and the third set up the Steelers for a score. My personal opinion is that the officials were under pressure, just like everyone else. The Steeler defense was supposed to shut down the Seahawk offense, and the Steelers were supposed to run all over the Seahawk defense. Instead, the Seahawks were moving the ball and, other than a few trick plays, the Steelers really weren't going anywhere. Perhaps the officials thought they were missing something, and got a little too anxious with the flags. The result was the Steelers won the game, despite Roethlisberger having a 22.6 quarterback rating for the game, and the Seahawks clearly being the better team. On his return to Seattle, coach Holmgren stated that he hadn't expected they'd have to play against the refs as well, a statement that would normally prompt a fine from the NFL. Apparently, the league just wanted the controversy to go away. So, if your team is on the receiving end of some bad calls, you'll get sympathy from Seahawk fans, but that's about it.

Good video & you made lots of good points. It amazes me that media never asked the question: if Sean Payton fled New Orleans with his tail between his legs because he could not find a quarterback to run his office there, then how can anyone reasonably expect him to find a quarterback while in Denver? In the past 18 years, we’ve only seen one quarterback, Drew Brees, run Payton’s offense with any success. Maybe this time will be remembered as when going to the Broncos destroyed the chances of both a SB winning QB & a SB winning coach from making the Hall of Fame. Russ was acquired by the previous owners to boost the sale price of the Broncos. First they hired Hackett because they wanted Aaron Rodgers, a franchise QB to boost the sale price of the team. When that didn’t work they traded away the future draft assets for Russ & sold the team for $4.65 billion, Partially because the new owners thought they were walking into a team that was ready for a Super Bowl run. Remember that corporate sports media was projecting the Broncos as Super Bowl favorites because of the trade for Russ. Previous didn’t care that the team had no draft picks because that was for the owners who has Super Bowl fever. Then media didn’t report on Russ’ practices. No way they could’ve gone well considering how games were played. Not one person in media questioned whether Russ would need time to learn & switch to a timing based offense.
@SecondStringHammer
@SecondStringHammer 2 месяца назад
Good points. I think Sean left New Orleans not so much due to not finding a Quarterback, but more for the salary cap situation and not wanting to rebuild. I think the Saints did the right thing with trying to win with Drew in the end, but eventually the bill becomes due. Finding a quarterback was part of it for sure, but I think it was more than just that. Where I disagree is Drew was not the only QB to run his system well. Teddy Bridgewater played one of his best seasons under Payton, which is why the Panthers paid him a good amount. Jameis Winston also played some of his best football under Sean Payton as well. His only real "failure" was Russell Wilson, and Russell Wilson had a bounce back season under Payton. I still think Payton is a very good head football coach with X's and O's, but struggles with getting along with players and other coaches. Payton has been good, just not good enough to justify the amount of money he is being paid. I'm interested to see where the team goes.
@SecondStringHammer
@SecondStringHammer 2 месяца назад
I agree as well that the old owners brought Russ in to help sell the team. Where I question the move is why was that necessary. The commanders sold just fine this past year without a quarterback, or for that matter any hint of a nontoxic culture. Sure maybe it made them so money, but selling the team would still have been very easy. You are absolutely right that the media didn't say anything negative about Russ when he went there. I was super excited when he was traded, and thought Denver would finally be good again. Unfortunately Russ is older and just not quite as athletic as he used to be, which was where Russ was special. He just isn't the franchise saver he was billed to be, or used to be. I think him going the the Steelers will be good for him. He doesn't have to be the savior, but function as himself. He also has a chip on his shoulder to show he still has it. I think he is more interested in being a football player again, instead of being a celebrity. I hope it works out for him.

I was short on time and wasn’t able to type so I spoke into my phone. Thanks again for a great video. I hope that Payton finds a good QB for the Broncos. Part of me wishes he’d modified his offense for Russ’ skills because of how hard it is find & develop good QBs. Payton got Drew Brees without having to develop him much. I know it sounds crazy that a previous owners just wanted to sign a franchise QB to boost the sales price, but one of the variables in team values is that teams with a true franchise QB under contract & teams that are considered SB contenders are valued higher. They gave up so much to get Russ. New owners start out close with the league office because that’s who approves their purchase. But owners who stay too close can end up getting bad advice on hires. The inner workings of the league & who gives advice to owners is a fascinating world. Thanks again for a great video. Good luck with your channel & with your team this season. 🍀👍

@@SecondStringHammer The big difference in the Commanders & Broncos is location of the franchise. Owning an NFL team in the nation’s capital provides opportunities for that billionaire to have some of the most powerful ppl in the world in the private stadium suites. The amenities, museums, access to govt plus, national & world leaders visiting the facilities, etc. although it’s been over 30 years since that franchise has won a Super Bowl, when it happens it’s amazing how much attention the owner gets. NYC & L.A. are similar due to the size of the media markets. Finally, it’s a very old team so there’s a big fan base everywhere. It looks like the federal government will get invoked in subsidizing a new stadium too. So all of those factors makes it a very attractive purchase for billionaires seeking even more power & profit than typically available through NFL team ownership which is still immense regardless of the franchise. Good news is that the Broncos have less distractions & hopefully will win before the Commanders. 👍
