Industry knowledge and technical expertise are very important factors. In addition to that we cannot ignore production capacity, strong processes and best in class quality control. Ensure the facility has everything in place considering all the compliance requirements to prevent any product or supply chain related issues. Also, your contract manufacturer should have the capability to consider your future requirements in terms of product changes, NPDs, market driven changes etc.
Procurement and SCM knowledge is not good in India... They only hire core engineers for Procurement, someone doing B.Tech in IT and MBA in Operations or SCM don't get hired.... Procurement is not looking into Quality but Commercial aspect

One of the best podcasts on Supplychain management. Points spoken are most relevant to the current day pain points in the manufacturing industry, especially with regard to spare part management. Significant pain points being -Having the right spares at the right place and the right time. -Sourcing obsolete parts from the OEMs -Lead time for procurement -Large MOQs -Cost of the part itself! Adopting digital inventory and warehousing, and manufacturing parts locally with advanced manufacturing technologies solves significant problems listed above. Many Oil and Gas companies have already taken this leap and have observed significant technical and economic competency.
